- How to Install Soft Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover
$242.99 - $294.99+ $99.00 Handling Fee with FREE Shipping
Plain and simple, you should be checking out the Proven Ground Soft Tri-Fold option here if you wanna cover your bed and protect your cargo but you wanna spend the least amount of money possible in the process. Now, this tri-fold option will be available for all '04 to '14 F-150s in both 5.5 and 6.5-foot bed lengths and will start around that low $200 price point. Now, getting the cover in place will be a very simple and straightforward job that requires no drilling or even tools whatsoever, so I figure soft one out of three wrenches on the old difficulty meter here and maybe an hour at most to get everything in place. So, if you're watching this video then, chances are you already know the value of having some sort of cover to protect your bed cargo. But why might you consider the Proven Ground option that we have here today? Well, as I said at the top of this video, guys, to save money. That's gonna be the biggest draw here with this soft cover. Now, Proven Ground is gonna utilize a weather-resistant vinyl material that feels pretty thick and durable here in the shop, and therefore I do get the impression that this is gonna hold up over time and not rip or tear easily. The material itself has been given a UV-resistant coating, so you're not gonna have to worry about this thing fading in the sun on you over the years. Now, in addition to that, it does look like they've done a great job with some of the stitching and the threads overall, so top-wise, construction should be pretty solid. Now, as for the skeleton itself here, Proven Ground has incorporated a very strong aircraft-grade aluminum frame that has been finished off in a black epoxy powder coat, which is going to increase the overall durability. Now, the frame itself is going to be very lightweight and still be very strong, which is nice because if you live in the Midwest, you live in the Northeast, and you do get a heavy, wet snowfall, on this thing, you're not gonna have to worry about that aluminum bending on you, or sagging, or even stretching that vinyl in the process. But maybe one of my favorite aspects about this very budget-friendly tonneau cover is the fact that it does feature the very popular tri-fold design. Now, that basically means you can fold this thing quickly and easily up and out of the way if you ever needed to access the entire bed or you wanna haul something large. Now, holding the cover out of the way, Proven Ground has included some of these quick connect straps that will keep the cover kinda locked down in place when folded up. Now, if you weren't crazy about this folding method for whatever reason and even wanna spend less money than the cover we're talking about here, Proven Ground does also offer their snap design on the site. It'll save you a few bucks, but will be a little bit more difficult to use on the fly.Which leads me to my next point. This is one of many different styles and even brands here at americantrucks.com available for your rig. Now, if you'd like to learn more about the pros and the cons of each style, feel free to check up my "What's Up With That?" episode "All Things Bedcovers" where I go through, I weigh the pros, I weigh the cons of each design, and show you guys what's up. But without further ado, now we wanna show you what's involved with getting the Proven Ground cover installed on your F-150 at home. And, again, very simple task. Hell, you don't even need any tools to get everything done. But to give you a better idea of how it will go down, here's that detailed walkthrough we promised you earlier. Check it out.All right, with everything unboxed, it's pretty much ready to go. There's no real assembly to speak of, it's ready to install right out of the box. So, first step is just grab your cover, and these two yellow safety straps, those you're gonna install closest to the cab on your truck. So, you wanna get the tonneau cover situated on the bed with those straps closest to the cab. Two hands might make this part a little easier, but for today's video, I'm just gonna show you how to do it with one set of hands. All right, with the cover in place, now you wanna just kinda line it up, make sure you're even with the bedside. And at this point, we're gonna start unfolding the cover just to make sure it's positioned exactly where we want it before we start installing or tightening our clamps. Just unfolding the cover here to make sure we got it positioned exactly where we want it before we go ahead and tighten everything down. Nudge it a little bit closer to that bed rail. So, the goal of unfolding the cover and making sure it's exactly where you want it is that you wanna make sure it's centered on the bed. So, what I like to do, pretty simple, just look on both sides of your rails here, make sure it's showing the same amount of meat, if you will, on each rail. And once you have it exactly where you want it and centered, we can start folding it back up and securing our clamps. All right, with the cover in place, now you wanna crawl into the bed and start setting your first latches. Now, this is adjustable, so depending on your bed rail situation, if you have a different kinda liner or plastic liner, you might need to adjust this clamp accordingly. But once you get it in place, you can see we still have a little ways to go. So, we have to tighten up this clamp in order for it to lock in, so we're gonna shorten it up by screwing it in. And, again, this is a trial and error kinda thing. You might wanna screw it in a little bit, see how you do. If it's not long enough, you might need to tighten it up a little bit more. Now, to help keep things safe and ensure that this clamp doesn't loosen up unexpectedly on you while you're on the highway, this tonneau cover does include some cotter pins here to keep this clamp locked in place. So, that's our next step to install that now. Now, on the topic of safety, this tonneau cover also includes a safety strap here, as you can see in yellow, which you have to loosen up, and then attach to your bed rail. All right. So, with both sides fully tightened down and everything installed there, now you're just simply going to fold the cover down. One, and then two. And now, you'll see, we have two more of these clamps right here that we're just gonna repeat what we did up near the cab, tighten them up, clamp them down, and that should be good. Now, just like the fronts, this one is a little long, so we're gonna tighten it up a bit before clamping it down. It's good to test fit it once or twice too. And, again, you want this to be pretty snug as you don't want it flapping around on you. And just like the other side, tighten this one up a bit. With that final clamp tightened up, ensure your tailgate closes, and your installation is complete.Hey, we hope you enjoyed this review and install of the Proven Ground Soft Tri-Fold Cover, available for your '04 to '14 F-150 at home.
