Simple installation for anyone.
Hey, what's up, guys? I'm Ryan from AmericanTrucks. And today, I'm here with the BAK Industries BAKFlip MX4 Folding Tonneau Cover fitting your 2004 to 2014 F-150 Styleside with either a 5.5-foot or a 6.5-foot bed. This is for the F-150 owner that's looking for the most protection from the elements and thieves with a low-profile cover that's easy to install. This is a reliable way to not only change up the appearance of your truck but to seal up your bed while maintaining easy accessibility. Its tri-fold design will allow you to fold it up all the way to the rear window giving you maximum access to the bed, and the low-profile design is gonna give you a sleek look and even improved gas mileage. Now, this utilizes a clamp-on bedrail style system for easy installation, and it has an integrated slam lock latching system that allows you to open it with one hand. Now, this cover is made of a sturdy aluminum frame that's wrapped in a thick fiberglass reinforced polymer cover making it very sturdy and strong. The whole thing is covered in a black powder coating giving it UV resistance and corrosion protection. Now, this is an easy bolt-on so there's no drilling required and it comes complete as a kit ready to install. Now, this is one of the more expensive options on the site at $930, however, I think it's well worth the money considering the construction and quality of materials that you're getting. Now, this particular cover is for a 6.5-foot bed, however, BAK does offer one for your 5.5-foot bed. As far as install goes, I'm gonna give this a one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter since you can install this in about an hour using basic hand tools. Now, with that being said, let's hop into our install. So, to begin this installation, if you do not have a drop-in bed liner, you'll wanna install this seal right along this edge up here. You can just peel the backing, clean it real good with isopropyl alcohol, and then just stick that on. Since we have a drop-in bed liner, this is not necessary, so we're gonna start with one of our side rails. So, we're gonna start here with our passenger side, and you'll want to close the tailgate so we can get the proper spacing for this. One thing that you'll wanna keep note of is this bedrail edge. If it's flat up and down, you can go ahead and install your clamps. However, if it's angled any way, you'll need to shim it and you can look in the instructions for all that information. So, our bedrail is flat so we're gonna start with these clamps. Now, you'll want to take a tape measure, and we're gonna measure anywhere from 9 to 12 inches from the front of this bed backwards and place our first clamp. To install these clamps, we're gonna face the bolt head outward, and they have teeth on them. The inside of this rail has teeth as well. So, I wanna make sure that these teeth mesh with the teeth on the rails. So, we're gonna fit that all the way up as far as we can in there. And then we wanna measure back, like I said, in between 9 and 12 inches. Then we're gonna take a 9/16s wrench and tighten that up.While you're tightening it up, you wanna make sure that this is pressed all the way down so this outside seal will seal properly. After that, we're gonna go to the back and do that one. For this back one, we're gonna measure it anywhere from six to nine inches back, and then we'll install that clamp. Same thing, bolt head is gonna face outwards. And we'll wanna make sure that these go all the way up and seat properly. So then we're gonna go to about the middle of the rail and install our third clamp. After that, you can torque all those to 10 foot-pounds. So, after we get that one side installed, we're gonna start on the other side. Do the same thing. So, after you have those bedrails completely installed, we're ready to lay our tonneau cover on. We're gonna make sure that these buckles face towards the rear glass of the truck. So, after you lay this on, we're gonna flip this section open because we wanna flip this little area down. All right. So, the next step after we get this laid down, we're gonna flip this little section up because we have to attach this buckle here. Using the hardware provided, you're gonna have these female ends. They're gonna go down through the bottom and up through these pre-drilled holes, and then we'll install our screws and tighten them up with a Phillips-head screwdriver. So, first, we're gonna flip this up, and place these through the bottom here. So, after we insert those two from the bottom, we're gonna go ahead and place that buckle over, and then we can install our screws. So, I'm placing a screw through and then we'll get it started using a Phillips-head.So, after that's in, we're gonna just tighten it up fully. And we'll do the same thing for the other side. So, while we're up here, we're gonna install these bumpers. Now, BAK provides you with these bumpers, and they stick on right here on this edge. This is for when you flip this cover all the way up and attach those buckles that if it does contact the glass, it's not gonna break it.So, what we're gonna do is we're just gonna peel this backing off and we'll start with our middle one. So, we're gonna release this, flip this up. Get an idea where we want these. We're gonna lay it back down, and then we'll just place our bumper. So, then we're gonna go and do both of our side ones. Just wanna press down firmly on those, and make sure that's a clean surface, and make sure that they stick. So, next we're gonna slide our bed cover back, and we're gonna get these big pre-drilled holes to line up with that aluminum bracket underneath. Next, we're gonna separate these knobs. And this section here is gonna go down through that hole. So, we're gonna go down through there. We're gonna do the same thing for the other side, and then we're gonna crawl underneath and place this hardware on there. In placing these down, you're gonna keep one rubber washer on them. And then we'll go underneath and get a rubber washer, flat washer, lock washer, and the knob installed. So, we're gonna do a rubber washer, then our metal flat washer, and then a lock washer, and then we'll screw the knob on. And we're gonna tighten these up a little bit, but we're gonna leave them pretty loose because we still have to adjust the bed cover. So, while we're down here, I'm gonna show you where these drain tubes go. These drain tubes divert all the water from the cover out the side of the bed. So, these are just gonna slide on these back edges here because there's a little tube sticking out of here. And then what you can do, on the side of your bed, you'll have a hole with a plug. You can remove that plug or drill a hole through it, and then that will go out through the side. If you do have a bed cover, you can route this down and around and through there, or you can drill a hole through the bed cover. So, next we're gonna close our bed. And then we're gonna flip this all the way out, adjust it, and then we'll tighten those knobs the rest of the way up.All right. So, once you have adjusted this whole thing and you make sure that it closes properly, we're gonna open this back up, and then we're gonna pull on these release cables. That's gonna disengage that, and then we'll just flip it up section by section so we can tighten it the rest of the way down. You wanna make sure not to shift it at all while you're doing this. So, that's gonna wrap my review and install. For more videos like this, check us out at americantrucks.com.
