What is the break in procedures for these brakes?

    • The break in period for the Power Stop Z36 Extreme Truck and Tow 6-Lug Brake Rotor and Pad Kit will be as follows: 5 moderate to aggressive stops from 40 mph down to 10 mph in rapid succession without letting the brakes cool and do not come to a complete stop. If you're forced to stop, either shift into neutral or give room in front so you can allow the vehicle to roll slightly while waiting for the light. The rotors will be very hot and holding down the brake pedal will allow the pad to create an imprint on the rotor. This is where the judder can originate from. Then do 5 moderate stops from 35 mph to 5 mph in rapid succession without letting the brakes cool. You should expect to smell some resin as the brakes get hot. After this is complete, drive around for as long as possible without excessively heating the brakes and without coming to a complete stop (Try for about 5 minutes at moderate speed). This is the cooling stage. It allows the heated resin in the brake pads to cool and cure. After the brakes have cooled to standard operating temperature, you may use the brakes normally.

      Worth the money

Definitely better braking over stock. Squeak in the mornings when backing out. Could be condensation from overnight temp changes. Little irritating but it only does it once, and yes, I did use the brake pad lube on the backside of pads.

      Loving my brakes

Opened the box and was just hit with how great these rotors looked. My truck has 25000 miles on it and my current rotors needed turned due to the shakes. Biggest issue I had was removing the old rotors which took a sledge hammer to beat off. Once I put these rotors and pads on it looks like a different truck. Love them! It feels like it stops quicker also. A product! Also installed caliper covers, which look great with the rotors!

      Upgrade when it’s time....

I’ve owned my F150 for a little over three years when the dreaded rotor warp hit me. I had just spent a pretty penny on new tires. Not really knowing what to go with I came across American Trucks website. After doing a little research and comparing prices at my local brick and mortar shop I came to the conclusion to give this full kit a try. I’ve been driving on them for about three months now and I have nothing negative to say about the quality of the kit nor the function. I think it gives you a solid replacement over OEM rotors and pads. However if you are looking for increased braking power from this kit I’d say go with the more expensive wilwood kit instead.

Amazing braking power they look great!

I had original put some heavy duty pads on from my local automotive store. They stopped really well but they squealed like crazy. I then ordered this kit from American Trucks. Delivery was fast and they items came as described with no problem. After installing the brakes and doing the break-in procedure (a must) these breaks have been amazing. I drive around 125 miles a day and they great stopping power and are very quite. Would definitely by them again.

PowerStop Z36 is a MUST for Ford F-150 owners!

Wow what a difference! I have a 2011 Ford F150 with approximately 48k when i experienced the notorious oem front rotor warp. I figured that I was running stock on all 4 corners so now would be a great time to upgrade everything, and I’m glad that I did! I only tow an atv utility trailer several months out of the year so the heavy duty/tow package is a little much for what I need it for, but it’s better to have it and not need it than need it and not have it! Upon install my back rotors were trash and the front pads were wore less than half. The truck drives much smoother now without the “hold-back” feeling and the braking power is 5x superior to stock! Just don’t forget to follow your brake-in procedures! Install to a little longer than planned because I upgraded to the PowerStop calipers as well. I have only put 100mi on my truck since the install but I’m very pleased thus far! Thank you PowerStop for such an amazing product! I’ll give an updated review after I put a few more miles on her!

Night and Day difference between stock brakes and this kit. Very smooth and the stopping distance is much better compared to stock... not to mention the overall aesthetics. Highly recommended!

Just what I was looking for!

Quality kit. Great fit. Truck stops great! Will be towing my 79 Ford Bronco with it this year. Break in procedure is crucial. Did the best I could considering the area I live in. Had a bit of a squeak on one corner, but went away after a couple of good acceleration to deceleration stops after the break in procedure. Truck sits outside in the elements and no rust after a rain. Very pleased overall!

      Meh

Bought this to replace the OEM brakes because I was going to do some towing. Not sure I really feel a difference with normal driving. Maybe there's a difference when towing, but I didn't do a before and after test. But they sure look pretty. But $400 pretty? I put "afternoon" for installation time because my rotors needed "encouragement" to come off, and I wasn't aware that the rear brake pistons don't compress with a C-clamp like the fronts. So I had to stop and do some research. Basically I would call installation time normal for changing a set of rotors and pads on an F-150.

      2011 F-150 Lariat

Bought the front and rear package, great price. Had them professionally installed by the dealer since I was due for other work on the truck. They followed the break in procedure exactly. When I picked up the truck I could not tell any braking difference at all. While the rotors look nice, and are drilled and slotted, there is no difference in stopping power.

      Awesome Upgrade!

Easy install. Overall time took 4 hours that included changing out both front hubs. The kit came in 2 boxes labelled front and rear. Each rotor is labelled driver and passenger side and each pad is labelled inner and outer. I've always changed my own brakes but this is not a difficult job. The most difficult part was getting the slide clips on the front caliper mounts. By pulling out the tab as you clip it in and push down, the tab will lock into the caliper mount. Aside from a jack, jack stands, and a lug wrench, the only tools needed to do the brakes are a 13mm open ended box wrench for the front caliper, and a 21 mm socket for the caliper mount. Do not use a pneumatic driver. (I bought this truck used and apparently the last brake job that was done, they stripped the caliper bracket bolt, most likely from using air tools. The metal is too soft and the bolts are case hardened. I replaced both brackets and all 4 bolts). Using a breaker bar removes the bolts and installs them easily. The caliper mounts have to come off on the front to remove the rotors. The rear only needs the calipers removed to remove the rotors. Mine were stubbornly rusted to the axle hubs. To easily remove them, there are 2 small threaded holes in the face of the rotors. Screw in 2- 9/16" bolts and they will pop right off as you screw them in against the axle hub face. The kits include all new rubber caps, brake pad slides, and lubricant. My rear calipers are imprinted with the Powerstop logo that you can see when installed, but the fronts did not like the image in the description show. I followed the proper break in procedure, but it does not appear that all of the surface finish has been removed yes. Brand new, they are equal to or better than OEM. I would venture to say that they will get even better as they wear in. They look awesome!!
