Justin: Hey, everyone. I'm Justin with americantrucks.com. Today, I'm taking a closer look at the C&L Series Slotted and Drilled Rear Rotors, along with the corresponding pads, available for your 2012 through 2014 F-150, along with your 2015 through 2017 F-150 equipped with the manual parking brake. Now, you should be checking out the C&L combination here if you're looking for an affordable rear brake upgrade for that F-150 that will flow nicely with a matching set of drilled and slotted fronts, while also looking really nice behind your favorite set of wheels. So, again, this is gonna be a great low-buck option for the F-150 owners out there who are looking for a subtle upgrade for the rear end, and would like to make a great complement to either a matching set of C&L front rotors and pads, or maybe a different front setup of aftermarket brakes. Now, the slotted and drilled design here on the rotors is in place to help keep that rotor surface clean and cool at all times, to help prevent that brake fade. And that is gonna be the biggest enemy of performance, braking performance, that is. Once things get hot, that pedal gets soft, and it's all downhill from there. Now, as an added bonus, guys, that drilled and slotted design does offer a nice visual upgrade, as well, behind your favorite set of stock or aftermarket wheels. Obviously, this is a functional part first, but it can't hurt to mention that they are gonna look pretty cool as well. But let's dive a little bit deeper with construction here with the C&L rotors. And these guys are gonna start off as what is called a G3000-grade cast iron blank. And then from there, the rotors do receive that treatment, right, the slotted and drilled design. And that's gonna be done using precision machine-rounded slots, and beveled holes, and then the entire package is finished off with a durable silver-zinc plating. And that's just there to help prevent any corrosion or rust on non-friction-related surfaces. Now, this kit does also include a set of pads, as you can see right here. And that's going to incorporate a ceramic metallic material. It's a bit more aggressive than a predominantly ceramic pad, which you typically find on a stock application. But at the same time, this material won't be nearly as aggressive as a carbon-infused pad. So therefore, you can expect very low dust, very low noise with the C&L pads in place.Price point for the C&L rear rotors and pads is gonna live in that low to mid-$200 range, which, certainly a bit more affordable when compared to similar options on the site from companies like PowerStop. But at the same time, it's gonna be maybe a little bit more pricey than a generic OE parts store replacement, a set of OE blanks and replacement pads. So, with that being said, they're kind of pitted right in the middle, I would say, between some of your more expensive aftermarket options and just a plain old OE replacement. But now we do wanna segue into the install, and the site's gonna call this one a middle-of-the-road 2 out of 3 wrenches on the difficulty meter, maybe three hours or so max to complete from start to finish. But now, to give you a better idea of just how this one will go down in the driveway or garage, feel free to check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown.Man: The tools you'll need for this project are a 1/2-inch drive ratchet, a 13 and an 18-millimeter socket, possibly a pair of pliers, a piston compression tool, a clean cloth, and some brake cleaner.Hi, everyone. Today we're installing a set of brakes on our F-150, so let's get started with the uninstall of the stock brakes first. Once you've got your vehicle properly supported, either on a lift such as what we have, or a set of jack stands and a floor jack, next thing we're gonna do is go ahead and remove the wheel, and then we'll go ahead and remove the caliper. Now, to remove the caliper, we're gonna be using our 13-millimeter socket, and remove the two bolts, one at the top and one at the bottom, so that we can go ahead and lift our caliper out. So, let's go ahead and get that done. Now, you may run across a situation where this inner nut and slide pin wants to turn while you're turning the bolt. So just grab a pair of pliers, and you can hold it still while you get the bolt loose. And then go ahead and finish taking it out. Now we'll go ahead and get the one on top. And once you've got your bolts out, you can just go ahead and slide your caliper straight away, and get it out of the way. Now, once you've got that out of the way, we'll go ahead and take our caliper mounting bracket off, using an 18-millimeter socket on the bottom, and on the top here. And just like the caliper, we'll just slide that straight out. And once we've got that out, now we can go ahead and remove our rotor. Now, once you've got your caliper mounting bracket out of the way, you can go ahead and grab your rotor, and be advised it is a little heavy, and just slide it straight out. Now that we've got everything off the truck, we can go ahead and replace our pads inside the caliper mounting bracket. To do that, you're just gonna grab ahold of them, and pull them towards the outside, or the inside, whichever way it loosens up the best, and just slide them out of the retainers. Now, with the pads out of the way, we can go ahead and remove our anti-rattle clips, and simply just pull on them until they release, as they are spring-loaded. Now, once you've got those out of the way, it's usually a good idea to take, like, a Scotch-Brite pad and run it over the surface of where the anti-rattle clips go, just to clean them up from any kind of corrosion that may be on there. All right. Now, once you've got that clean, you can go ahead and install the new anti-rattle clips. And again, they just snap on, as they are spring-loaded. Now, with the new anti-rattle clips installed, we can go ahead and get our pads ready to go. Now, the kit does come with this synthetic brake lube. So, you just wanna open this up. It doesn't take a whole lot. And what you're gonna wanna do is put some on the ends of the pads here, and here, and also on the backside. And like I said, it doesn't take a whole lot, so just use it sparingly, and coat the backside, coat the contact points at the ends. And one other thing that you can do is, on the other side, where the caliper mounting bolts go in, grab ahold of that boot, and pull it out, and put a little lube on the pin itself. That'll help it slide and operate more smoothly once you get it back together. Now, since we're not making this a permanent change to our truck, I'm not going to actually put the lube on there, but I just wanted to show you where to put it when you do yours. So, let's go ahead and slide our pads in. And you don't wanna slide these all the way in, because you are going to be putting on a new rotor, and it's gonna be thicker than the ones that you took off. So, we'll just go ahead and slide these in, to where they're not gonna fall out. And now we can move on to the rotor. Now, before you put your rotor onto the truck, you wanna make sure that, one, you've got the rotor on the right side of the truck, because they are side-specific, based on the slots and the drilled holes. What you wanna make sure of is that the slot starts from the inside, and goes to the outside once you're looking at it on the vehicle. So, this is the correct orientation. The other thing that you can do is look on the outer edge of the rotor itself, and it's got some specifications and part numbers stamped into the edge of it. Now, right at the first, it's got the actual part number, and at the end of the part number, it has either an L or an R, for left or right side. L is for the driver. R is for the passenger side. Next thing you wanna do, before you actually put it on, is get yourself a can of brake clean, and just clean the actual contact surface of the rotor, to make sure that there's no manufacturing residue left on it, or anything got on it during shipping. So, we're just gonna spray this down. And then, using a clean cloth, we'll go ahead and wipe it down. And then do the same thing for the backside. And don't forget to get the inside of the rotor, where the parking brake goes. Now, with the rotor all cleaned up, we can go ahead and get this installed on the truck. So, now we're just going to reverse the uninstall procedure. So, we're just gonna line it up, line the studs up with the holes in the rotor, and go ahead and slide it on. And one last thing before we actually get our pads and our caliper reinstalled is you wanna make sure that the piston inside the caliper is completely compressed inside the caliper itself. And the reason for that is you've got thicker pads, and a thicker rotor that's going on here, and if you don't push that piston all the way in, you're not gonna be able to put your new pads in, or the caliper back over the rotor. So, you're gonna wanna use a caliper compression tool like this, and you can pick these up at most parts stores. They'll usually rent them to you. What you wanna do is put this flat plate here on the outside, like so. And then, the round piece is gonna go against the piston, and then you're just going to slowly squeeze the handle, and push that piston all the way back inside. Now, once you've got the piston completely compressed, go ahead and press the release handle on the tool, and you can go ahead and take it out. Now we can go ahead and install our caliper mounting bracket with our pads. Now, we'll go ahead and slide our mounting bracket, with our pads installed, back into place, and re-use the original bolts, and secure it to the vehicle. Now we'll go ahead and tighten those up with our 18-millimeter socket. And now we can go ahead and reinstall our caliper. We're just going to, at this point, now we can go ahead and squeeze our pads all the way up against the rotor, and then slide our caliper down over top of those. And again, we'll reuse the original bolts to attach it to the mounting bracket, and we'll tighten them down using our 13-millimeter socket. And if need be, you can use your pliers to hold it still while you tighten that up. Now, once you've got one side done, you can go ahead and repeat that whole process for the other side. And remember, when you're finished, make sure you torque everything down to factory recommended specifications, and also check your brake fluid level to make sure it's up to par. And before you even go to drive this on the road, make sure you pump up the brakes a few times, to get the pressure back in, and get that piston against the pads, so that they're both against the rotor, and it'll actually stop when you need it to.And that wraps up our review and install of the Proven Ground C&L Series Super Sport HD Brake Rotor and Pad Kit for the rear of your '12 to '14 F-150 and your '15 to '17 F-150 with manual parking brake. Thanks for watching, and remember, for all things F-150, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.

Increased Braking Performance. A great way to upgrade the stopping power of your 2012-2014 / 2015-2017 F-150 is by installing a C&L Super Sport HD Rear Brake Rotor and Pad Kit. Including Cross-Drilled and Slotted Rear Brake Rotors, as well as a set of matching Ceramic/Metallic Brake Pads, this Brake Kit will significantly improve the braking performance of your F-150, when compared to your original factory brakes. This C&L Combo Kit is ideal for those who want high-performance braking power without breaking open their piggy banks.

Superior Construction. C&L manufactures its one-piece Brake Rotors from premium-grade cast iron castings. CNC machined, these Rotors are perfectly mill-balanced to prevent vibration, noise, and uneven wear. These C&L Series rotors are then completed in a bright zinc electroplating treatment to provide good looks and protection against rust.

Cross-Drilled and Slotted. C&L Super Sport HD Rotors feature a cross-drilled and slotted design that helps to reduce brake fade by allowing hot gasses to easily escape through the vented holes. The slotted design will sweep away dust, water and debris to keep the surface of your brake pads cleaner for reliable bite every time you hit the pedal.

Cooling Vane Design. Unlike solid aftermarket brake rotors, these C&L Super Sport HD Rotors feature a vented vane design with an internal chamber structure. These vented vanes will allow hot gasses to escape easier to further improve the cooling performance of your brakes. Faster heat dissipation in turn will greatly increase your F-150's braking performance.

Ceramic Metallic Compound. C&L manufactures its Super Sport HD Rear Brake Pads from a proprietary blend of ceramic and metallic fibers that will resist brake fade and will provide maximum braking bite.
