Jake: Jake here for AmericanTrucks, and in this video we're taking a look at the Bilstein B8 5100 Series Rear Shock for 0 to 1 inch lift, fitting 2017 and newer four-wheel drive F250 Super Duties. Upgrading your shocks is an excellent way to improve both the ride and handling characteristics of your truck, and the B8 5100 from Bilstein can make a huge difference in how your truck performs. Whether you're at a stock ride height or running up to a 1-inch lift, it does it all for an affordable price.I don't like to mince words when it comes to suspension modifications because it's very easy to go way off the deep end here. But when it comes to getting some kind of lift or level on your truck, yes, we all want the look, but it also needs to ride well too. Nobody does ride and handling it better than Bilstein. I've personally had Bilstein's on several of my own vehicles, including a set of these B8 5100s, and they never fail to impress. This shock is set up for a stock ride height truck or up to a 1-inch lift in the rear. If you've got a leveling kit or you're running at stock ride height, this is going to be something that'll be for you. If you are going to have any sort of lift, you've got to have the damping to match because you're changing the suspension geometry. Otherwise, the ride is going to be compromised. Of course, Bilstein has you covered here. The B8 5100 features digressive valving technology, so that allows the shock to basically instantly react to impacts and varying different road surfaces. Inside of the shock body here, you've got velocity-sensitive digressive floating pistons, which basically means you've got more variability in rebound, compression, and travel, all things that are very important for a shock. It just adds up to more control on the street or trail, whether your truck is lifted or at its stock height. Despite being a non-adjustable monotube shock without a remote reservoir, the damping here is excellent and you can definitely feel the difference in body control versus stock. It's not going to ruin the ride quality by any means, which is important given these are heavy-duty trucks we're talking about. In fact, the ride quality stays pretty much the same, maybe just a bit more firm, but again, it's going to be more controlled. It's a shock really that doesn't compromise in any way.Construction as is the usual with Bilstein's offerings is excellent as well. You get a 46-millimeter diameter shock body that is zinc-plated for durability and good looks. Underneath this gator, you've also got chromed and hardened piston rods and that velocity-sensitive, digressive floating piston we were talking about a moment ago. Unfortunately, you can't see it because this gator is already installed, but that's nice for you because you don't have to struggle with it out of the box. You also get new OEM-grade bushings at both the top and bottom mounting points, so it gives you everything you need to replace your shock. Now, Bilstein also backs this up with a lifetime warranty against defects. And I can tell you from experience, they are really good about honoring that. Just make sure you save your receipt.Pricing will come in at about $150 per shock. And as you've noticed by now, I've only got one shock up here on the table, and that is because these are sold separately. So make sure you make that quantity two when you go to buy them since you want to do these in pairs. Now, that $150 price point does put these about in the middle of the range price-wise, but in my book, that seems to be about right. Since you aren't getting things like adjustable damping or remote reservoir, you're saving a bit on cost here. But these are still going to provide you excellent damping control and the ability to help level out your truck, too. So if you're shopping for shocks and you aren't looking to lift your truck to the sky, but you really want to focus on control and drivability, you really cannot go wrong with these. Now, there is also a matching front shock of this same series available, which even allows you to level out the front end of your truck. And I would highly recommend doing them all together. Having these on the front and rear is going to make a big improvement in how your truck drives.Installation will get a one out of three on our difficulty meter and it should take you about one hour per shock. Now since the rear end of the Super Duty is held up by leaf springs, you just need to unbolt your stock shock absorber and bolt this one right in its place. And you're going to repeat the job on the other side since, of course, again you want to do these in pairs. Now aside from taking the wheel off and jacking the truck up, it's a pretty straightforward two-bolt job. Definitely something you can accomplish at home. And now to show you that process, let's hand things over to one of our AT customers.Man: All right, so for the rear shocks, to replace these, you need an 18-millimeter socket and a 21-millimeter wrench. All right, it's on the top. It's just that 18-millimeter. Right here. You tighten that up till it's smoked [SP]. Now for the bottom. What you want to do is get this inside factory bolt. Pop this. Twenty-one wrench, 21-millimeter wrench, 18-millimeter socket, then down.Jake: That's going to do it for our review and install of the Bilstein B8 5100 Series Rear Shock for 0 to 1-inch lift fitting 2017 and newer 4-wheel drive F250 Super Duties. Thanks so much for watching, and as always, for all things Super Duty, be sure to keep it right here at americantrucks.com.

Superior Control and Handling Feel. If you find your F-250 Super Duty’s handling a bit wanting particularly off-road, you need the Bilstein B8 5100 Series Rear Shock for 0 to 1-Inch Lift. This front shock absorber features a monotube gas-charged build and exclusive velocity-sensitive digressive valving technology designed to give you a faster damping response. This translates to more accurate handling performance and driving feel. These factors are expressed as a firm but comfortable highway ride with the same handling characteristics. If you have a daily driven Super Duty that regularly sees time off-road, this shock is for you.

Brawny Build Quality. This rear damper utilizes a 46mm machined steel shock body, which offers excellent durability and ideal heat dissipation for consistent performance. Moreover, its piston rod measures 14mm thick and is likewise machined from chrome-hardened steel, offering strength for regular off-roading. This rear shock also features high-quality neoprene rubber bushings designed to dampen vibrations for even smoother ride quality. Rounding out its construction is a zinc plating and clear topcoat, providing superior corrosion protection.
