    Review & Install Video

The MXP Series cold air intake is available for any 5L F-150 owner looking to pick up one of the most efficient cold air intake systems on the market, with a dry filter as opposed to an oil one, that allows you to pick up a slightly improved throttle response. As well as even some small power gains and fuel economy increases. As you can imagine, the install for this is extremely straightforward, one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. We'll detail that at the end of the video. The factory inlet on your 5.0 does a pretty good job of bringing in all the cold air from outside to your engine bay, and AIRAID has obviously kept that same design in mind. However, they focused most of their attentions on improving the tubing, the airbox, and of course the filter itself to really optimize all of the performance together. They've made this to completely replace the factory system from the manifold down to the filter, and none of it requires a custom tune. Speaking of which, this system from AIRAID utilizes what's known as a "speed density system," instead of a mass airflow, basically why you get to hang back on getting a tune. With that said, the speed density system is going to make changes to the computer on the fly, which is not something the mass airflow would do, and require you to pick up a custom tune. So because of the speed density, no tune required, saving you money in the long run, making this a direct plug and play, or bolt on and go. Now, as far as power is concerned, AIRAID lets us know they tested this on their own Dyno and picked up about 19 horsepower on a stock 5L F-150. Now, I'd say with a tune, you can definitely maximize your power gains and see numbers in those areas. But of course, without one, I'd expect high single-digit gains at best, definitely respectable with a very easy bolt-on mod, such as this one. In addition to that, you'll be improving your drive-by-wire, ultimately increasing your throttle response. You might even see a fuel mileage gain or two, which is definitely an added bonus. I will say that this is completely 50-state legal. So if you're located in those emissions-restrictive states, such as California, you're in the clear to pick this one up. It is street or road legal and it will not be for off-road use only. Huge bonuses there for the guys all across the country. As far as materials are concerned, you're looking at a one-piece rotomolded airbox here. This is going to completely enclose your filter, keeping out that excess engine heat, so it's cold air only coming through. On the other side of me, it's a crosslinked high-density polyethylene system or tubing system, with a built-in velocity stack, for a free-flowing airflow, definitely an improvement over factory. Now, dead center of attention here is going to be the SynthaMax dry filter. Now, this one is a washable and reusable filter that does not require filter oil. It definitely saves you some money there. What this basically means is you can pop it out and wash it every few thousand miles, pop it right back in with no need to pick up a new one. Definite improvement over the factory paper element filter. In addition to that, it is a nonwoven synthetic material with a diamond wire-like mesh outside. Serious improvements in filtration here, keeping cold air going in, and all the dust and debris on the outside. As far as pricing, you're looking at picking this one up for your own 5.0 for just around the $400 mark. Definitely on the more expensive side of the no tune required spectrum. A tune will maximize your gains, but this is going to be one of the fully optimized, full intake replacement systems, really the best and most efficient system you can get without picking up a tune. As far as that install is concerned, you can really get this one done in about an hour's worth of time at the absolute maximum, 30 minutes if you've done it before. Simple hand tools like a ratchet and socket set will do the trick, and maybe a flathead screwdriver as well. One out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, no doubt. Cold air intakes are one of the easiest mods you can do to pretty much any engine, so definitely no difference here. The first thing you need to do is disconnect the negative terminal on your battery to be safe. Disconnect all wires and plugs attached to the factory airbox. Then, use a ratchet and socket set to unclamp all of the couplers and pull the factory setup out of the engine bay. You can easily assemble most of the AIRAID intake outside the engine bay to make it easier on yourself. Connect the inlet tube to the airbox, and connect the plug back into the new tubing. Drop the assembly into the engine bay, and secure it using the factory pushpins. Next, you want to attach the new coupler from AIRAID to the throttle body and clamp it down. Attach the new tubing to that coupler and the other end to the new airbox, reconnecting any remaining plugs and wires. Then, drop the filter into place and clamp it down to the new coupler. Reconnect the battery terminal, and you're good to go. That pretty much wraps things up for me. So if you're the owner of a 2015 or newer 5L F-150, you might want to check out the MXP Series cold air intake with the SynthaMax red and dry filter from AIRAID. this says it will fit a 2018 5.0 but i just had to return the k n intake due to the fact that the 2 air lines that attach to the intake tube attach different on the 2018 than on the older trucks. the breather line on the left connects at 90 degrees to the motor on the 2018 instead of straight on top like the previous years and the k n intake angle makes that hose kink and close and this angle looks similar and i'd like to make sure it will not kink that hose.

Not as good as they say

I bought this one over the popular Roush because it appeared to better seal the filter from the engine bay and the Airaid had a much more direct line between the airscoop and the filter box. You'll note stock filter and Roush filter that the airscoop connects to the BOTTOM of the filterbox requiring air to come into the airscoop and go down before entering the filter box. This one just made more logical sense. Too bad I didnt pick the Roush. For $400 the system is a bunch of plastic that doesn't totally fit together super well (The air scoop to the filter box required trimming to fit and the lid to the filter box does not actually fully close flush therefore letting a little air in). Also for this kind of money I would have expected they assembled some of this kit for you - they have you installing grommets and other small stuff to get the kit ready to install which should have been done at the factory for this price. There is NO noticeable sound difference. I am extremely disappointing by the reviews, the quality, and the price. I'm thinking of returning this for the Roush

Noticeable boost in power, throttle response

The performance boost was clear. My cat back dual system has a deeper, throatier sound to it as well. I've read elsewhere that it makes a little more under hood noise, but if so, I don't notice it. It pulls immediately from off-idle to about five thousand RPM. I'm looking forward to putting some miles on my truck to see if the mileage improves. The parts fit very well with no modification needed. I did have trouble with the rubber joints because it was below freezing when I installed the system, but I'm sure on a warm day everything would be fine. The cast plastic all fit perfectly and the product is well engineered. I'm very happy with this purchase. Definitely worth the money.

            Great look,

Only two holes for the wiring harness... 2018 needs 3 and the third is twice the size in oval form, so you will need to drill that hole. I posted photo where I put mine. Circled it in red, but may be difficult to see. Easy fix though..30 extra secs,

            Perfect addition to your build

Ease of install - it took me 30 minutes in my driveway. It’s very straight forward and minimal tools required. Aesthetics - its very big and intimidating, which is not a problem at all. It looks awesome replacing the stock intake system. Performance - it’s a very nice increase in power. It claims 19HP on the provided dyno sheet, which I feel is respectable after giving it a test drive. Cost - it’s on the higher end of the spectrum as far as cost, but I believe for a top tier intake, you’ll have to make a little more of a dive in. But I think it’s worth it after testing it. Overall? - Do it. If you’re debating on an intake for your truck and it’s in your budget, get this one and you’ll be just as pleased as I am. Do it!!

Easy to install, looks great under hood, paired with Corsa single sided ,double tip exhaust, gave my truck nice boost. Can't wait to tune it! Noticed also little better gas mileage and also love sound of the engine.

            Super Add On

I've installed many air intakes on my vehicles over the years but I have never seen the improvement like I have with this one on a 5.0 L Ford Coyote engine. I don't notice the whoosh under the hood so much but more of a rumble in the floorboards. I can't explain it but that's what it's done. Plus it looks fantastic. I was a bit confused to see KandN on the box but perhaps they make intakes under different names. Excellent!

The 2 option system with the open/closed filter is amazing. Noticed a small bump in performance and throttle response. Not so much in fuel mileage but only because I can't keep my foot out of it. Great fit. Easy install

            It's worth the money.

I bought one for my 2010 a couple years back, and this one for my 2015 and they are both very good products. I would buy another one again, no problem installing, it look good under the hood, and I do feel a difference in performance.
