Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com. And today, we're taking a closer look at, installing and dyno testing the Unleashed Tuning Rev-X by SCT Tuner with Custom Tune, available for the 2015 and newer five-liter F150. Now, before we jump into things and break down the tunes, and all the features of your Rev-X here, I wanna take you guys right on over to the dyno graph to talk about the before and after. So, we strapped our 2018 five-liter F150 down to the dyno to establish a baseline run and an after pull. Now, keep in mind guys, this has 93 octane in the tank for both. It's got 35-inch tires, bone stock otherwise. Now, it's a 10 speed. So, seventh gear is your one to one ratio, but you do run into the speed limiter. So, for an even pull, we did fifth gear. We established our baseline run, walked away with 325 horsepower, 334 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. We then, of course, uploaded our 93 tune from Unleashed, ran it again under the same conditions, walked away with 347 horsepower and 361 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. That's good for peak gains of 22 horsepower and 27 torque at the rear. Now, those numbers alone on just a simple octane tune is a really impressive number. But it gets even better under the curve. Now, we're seeing curve gains of as much as 44 horsepower and 62 pound-feet of torque at the rear wheels. Now, we're seeing those higher curve gains at the low to mid-range, which is exactly where you want them to be. This is gonna make a huge difference in drivability out on the road. So, with a very simple 93 octane tune, you can see we have some pretty impressive numbers here from Unleashed.Breaking down the components of the Rev-X here, equipped with your Unleashed Custom Tune, there is so much to know. Now, Unleashed, taking a look at their tune here, addresses a number of different parameters from the factory tune from Ford in order to maximize your performance. Now, you'll have your option of what tune you'd like. You might want an 87 tune, but we wanna focus on that 93 octane as you just saw from the dyno to really maximize the performance. Now, when it comes to some of the different things that they addressed, fuel tables is gonna be one of them there. They noticed that the Ford factory tune is a little bit restrictive in their moderate delay timers, especially at wide-open throttle. They also run a little bit rich, so they're gonna alter those fuel tables while keeping it safe in order to give you a little bit more fuel at the top-end to really access some of the top-end power. Now, aside from that, they're also gonna alter some of that drive by wire delay. The drive by wire delay is essentially the delay in time from you hitting your pedal to your throttle body opening up and your truck getting going. That's more of a throttle response delay. So, they're gonna alter that to make sure that you're feeling that throttle response and acceleration, a little bit more at the low end. So, that's gonna make drivability a lot more fun. Now, they're also gonna alter that output shaft limiter. They're gonna increase that to a safe limit in their calibrations, while also keeping timing and spark advance at a safe limit, keeping those Ford factory fail-safes in check. And finally, they're gonna alter a few other parameters that'll give you a little bit more accessibility to the top-end gears. Now, you might notice that in your F150, especially the 10 speeds here, you access 8th, 9th, and 10th gear a lot quicker than you might want, which can leave your truck feeling a little bit sluggish when you're trying to get going and accelerate at those higher gears. So, they're gonna alter sport mode, daily drive mode, and the performance tow haul mode to make those higher gears a little bit more torquey. They're gonna give you a little bit more access to the power at the higher end. Now, in addition to the Unleashed tunes, you have a number of other things that we wanna talk about here with the Rev-X. The Rev-X here is gonna offer a gauges and data log screen which is really gonna come in handy for the guys who wanna track live engine vitals on the fly using the Rev-X, without needing gauges or anything else in order to monitor it. You can monitor up to eight different engine vitals at once. And you can change the gauge layouts to display whatever gauges that you wanna look at. And we'll break that down in just a little bit when we hop inside the truck. You're also gonna be able to record a data log session with your device here and you can communicate that back to your tuner, Unleashed, if you'd like some possible tune revisions. You can take a look at the performance of your engine and send that to and from the tuner for possible changes. Now, you're also gonna have a DTC code reader, your diagnostic trouble code, so you can clear and read your check engine lights if they ever do come up. And finally, you have Wi-Fi capability and cloud access. So, you don't even need to plug this guy into a laptop, you can access it through the cloud, which is an exclusive feature to the Rev-X when comparing it to the SCT X4 SF4 device. So, this guy, wrapped up in a neat little package is gonna come in right around 430 bucks. And the install, I'm gonna give one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Anybody can tackle this in the driveway at home with about 30 minutes from start to finish. I'm gonna break down all the features in car and show you guys how to actually upload that tune. So, what do you say I shut up and we hop in and take care of it?First thing's first here, guys, grab your Rev-X device and the OBD2 harness included in the kit. The first thing we're gonna do is take the OBD2 end and plug it into that port located under the driver side dashboard. All right, so, you're looking at the e- brake, go to the right, follow it straight down, plug it right in. All right, so, once you have your device plugged in, I'm gonna leave it right here on our steering wheel and show you guys the process here for tuning your vehicle. So, right from the main menu, you'll have program, vehicle gauges, data log, vehicle functions, vehicle info, device info, and device settings. You wanna select program vehicle to actually flash a tune. Confirm your VIN number, press Confirm. From here, right out of the box, your device will probably need to be updated. We've already updated ours. If you haven't done so already, you wanna go over and press Continue. Now, for that, you will need to connect to Wi-Fi. So, be within range of a Wi-Fi network. And again, we've already taken care of it. So, we're gonna select Skip. If you've already updated yours, you can do that as well. All right, so, while we did do a software update, we're now doing a firmware update on our device, which sometimes can happen right after the software. So, allow it to load 0 to 100 as many times as it needs. Looks like two updates is what's happening here and then we'll move into tuning. All right, so once it's complete, you can press Okay. Internet required, again, you'll need to connect to a Wi-Fi network. At this point, it would prompt you to connect to Wi-Fi. Now, ours is already connected, so it should just verify files and move forward. All right, now, at this point, the Rev-X does have cloud capabilities. So, if your tuner sent you your tune file on the cloud instead of it via email, you'll be able to press Continue, sync the tune from the cloud to your device, and then move over to flashing. Now, ours is physically loaded to the device via email. So, we're gonna hit Skip. Now, street use, you're gonna press Continue. Make sure your key is in the on position and press Continue again. At this point, you'll be able to select your tune. Now, you may have multiple from your tuner, we're only focusing on the 93 performance or otherwise known as 93 race tune. So, that's the only thing we have loaded it in the custom tunes section of this menu. Now, if you wanna select your 87 tune, you can do that now as well. It just depends on what you either pulled from the cloud or loaded to the device via email on your computer. So, we're gonna select 93 performance. There are additional options to change in the tune. I'll select changes to show you guys what that looks like. So lets hit change again. You have spark, axle ratio, tire revs per mile, speed limiter, rev limiter, so many different options here that you can play with. If you do not want to edit any of these, you don't have to. We're actually gonna leave all these the same and just go with the tune that was sent to us. So, we're gonna hit Continue. All right, so, as you can see, at this point, it's applying the options, which basically means it's applying any of those changes that you made to the tune, compiling that together. From here, it will move into saving your stock tune to the device. So, anytime you wanna revert back to your factory Ford tune, you can do so right on the device using the same menu options. Return to stock will appear once it's been flashed to aftermarket. And then from there, it will move into actually flashing the vehicle. During this process, of course, you don't wanna unplug the device or turn the key off unless it's prompting you to do so on the screen. Sometimes it may tell you to turn the key off and then press Continue and then back on, and press Continue. So, if it does that, follow those directions but if not, let it do its thing. All right, so, once it moves into the next phase, it's gonna write the tune, which will be again loading 0 to 100. The lights on the dash may turn off. Just make sure you're not turning your key off. Just follow the instructions on the screen. Don't unplug your device and we'll come back when it's done. All right, so, here we're being told to turn the key off and then wait for instruction, back on, same thing. All right, there you have it, programming complete, you can hit Done, takes you right back to the main menu. All right, so, next I wanna take you through some of the Rev-X's features here aside from programming vehicle. Under that, you'll see gauges and data log. Now, this is gonna be a good screen for the guys who wanna monitor live engine vitals on the fly at all times. All you'll have to do is make sure the key is on, press Continue. All this is gonna do is really connect to your ECU, give you your configuration property or vehicle, and it'll track as many of these as you'd like at the same time. Now, you can track up to eight of them, and they're all interchangeable. So, right from the default here, we have all eight displayed, they're little gauges, four on each side going vertically. So, what you can do is let's make it a little bit easier to read. You can go to the right here. We can go to select gauge layout. You can change what this guy will look like. So, let's go with something very simple. We'll just track two gauges at once, a lot bigger and easier to read. So, we have boost in PSI up top, control module voltage on the bottom. But say we don't want control module voltage, we'll select that guy, change the item. Say we wanna track intake air temperature instead. Select it, go over and hit Approve, and it replaces that gauge. So, it's super easy to use, it's very responsive and there's a lot to choose from. So, if we didn't just want two options, you go to the right, fit on a gauge layout. You already saw eight. You can track 2, 3, 4, there's 5 here, 6, and then 8. So, let's see four. And there you have it. And again, you can change any of these to whatever you want out of the list menu. Now, if you wanted to record a data log, you can start record data, that will record the engine performance and you can communicate that back to your tuner or you can just have it for your records and that can be saved directly onto the device, and it can be communicated back into the cloud. So, we can hit stop data log, and it will take us back to the main menu. Now, under that, there's vehicle functions, read DTC and clear. Now, DTC is the diagnostic trouble code, your check engine light. If that guy comes on, you can plug this device in, go to this menu, read the code. You can clear the code and then special functions most people won't touch, things like cam relearn. So, what we're gonna do is go back to the main menu. Finally, we have vehicle info, which will give you your VIN number and ECU strategy code along with some of the other vehicle parameters. Device info is gonna be software and firmware versions, your married status, how many unlocks you have left with the device. So, say you wanna use this device but on a different vehicle, you can have it unlocked from the vehicle that you have. Every time you return the vehicle to stock, it unlocks it from the device. You can then pair it to a new vehicle and you have up to five different times you can do that. And that information will be stored in device info. Now, device settings here has things like check for update and Wi-Fi, which kind of go hand in hand. If you're in range of a Wi-Fi network, you can connect to that and get wireless updates to the device. Anytime SCT puts out a software update, it's good to check here. Now, cloud file sync is something unique to the Rev-X as opposed to the X4 option. Basically, this makes things wireless. If you're getting tuned revisions, if you're sending or receiving data log files, you can do it all wirelessly via the cloud. And again, you'll need Wi-Fi access for this, but that'll eliminate the need to plug it into a laptop or computer. You can upload again data log to the cloud. You can also upload your stock file to the cloud to save. And then there's regular settings like the brightness and day and night mode. We can change your theme. Default is dark red, but you can change it to light blue. There's also light red, just really simple things to customize it to your own liking. And then finally, there is a little beep here. When you hit a button, you can change that, turn that off. Finally, the start function that I think is gonna be most important for guys here in the device settings menu is the startup mode. So, you could have it immediately load up to the gauges and data log menu if you find yourself using that more often than not. Now, if you are, you may be picking up a windshield mount or a vent gauge mount to mount this guy within arm's reach. If that's the case, I'd recommend turning this on, that way you can just leave it plugged in at all times. And as soon as you turn your vehicle on and load this up, it immediately goes to gauges. So, I think that's really useful. Then you can head right back to the main menu and that's your Rev-X device. That's gonna wrap up my review, install, and dyno testing of your Rev-X device from SCT with the Unleashed Tuning Tune on there. So, if you wanna pick this up, you can do so right here at americantrucks.com.

From the factory, Ford programs the F-150 to cater more toward the needs of the daily driver, not the performance enthusiast who want to add aftermarket modifications in search of even more power. That is why a custom tune file is so important. By optimizing the air/fuel ratio, adjusting ignition timing and tweaking variable cam timing, an Unleashed Custom Tune will squeeze out the extra power your aftermarket performance mods have to offer.

Get Your Money's Worth. If you're shelling out money on an intake, exhaust or other performance system upgrades, you need a custom written tune to see and feel the real difference your modifications can make.

Diagnostics Tool. The Rev-X Tuner can also be used as a diagnostic code reader. Save yourself hundreds of dollars each year by reading and clearing your own Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) rather than paying a dealer to do the same. It's as easy as a few simple steps.

Easy to Load; Easy to Restore. When you load your custom tune on the vehicle, the tuner automatically stores your vehicle's factory settings. To return the vehicle to its factory settings, just plug the tuner back in, select the option to restore the factory settings, and you're done. This is ideal for visiting dealerships for warranty work.
