      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. Joe from AmericanTrucks. And today, I am gonna be reviewing and installing the UnderCover Ultra Flex Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover in Textured Black, fitting all '15 and newer F-150s with either the 5.5-foot bed or 6.5-foot bed. Now this tonneau cover is perfect for the F-150 owner who is looking to protect their cargo from not only the elements but any would-be thieves as well with one of the best tonneau covers on the market that has some cool extras and features to it as well. It's manufactured out of FRP composites that are strong yet lightweight, it's resisting to fading scratches or denting. And the black textured finish looks awesome with the black accents on our '17 F-150.It has some great features to it as well, namely this low profile design, looks great on the inside it is carpeted as well that gives it a nice OEM look and feel and it has some built-in drainage channels that are going to ensure your cargo will stay dry. Now another great thing about tonneau covers, in general, is these typically clean up the turbulent air coming over the cab that gets caught in the bed and this is going to get you a small increase in fuel economy. This tonneau cover can be rolled up and down with some real speed as well unlike some of the other leather tonneau covers out there that feature snaps, flaps or zippers. They tend to shrink or expand in cold weather, making those last snaps or zippers really tough to get. Since this one is a little bit better designed it does not suffer from that issue and there's extremely easy to roll up or down even in the coldest temperatures. Now another huge improvement over those leather or vinyl tonneau covers is just how much more secure this tonneau cover is than those options. If somebody wanted to get into one of those, they really could, all you need on you is a knife, cut it open and your into whatever is in there. Since this one is a harder design, once you lock this tailgate up you don't have access to undo any of the hardware, you don't have access to the wire you pull on in order to release these flaps, making it a much securer design. If you plan on carrying anything expensive in your bed pretty consistently, this is definitely a choice to consider for security reasons. This tonneau cover comes with some extra stuff that tonneau covers usually don't come with and I think it's a nice touch. You get two 18-inch LED strings to mount to the inside of your bed that really sharpen up to look and help light up the bed at night. Now pricing is going to vary based on cab and bed configuration but for this setup right here expect to pay around 1000 bucks. Now that is expensive but for one of the most well-manufactured, most-secure, easy to roll up and down, has some extras with the saddlebag and LED lights, also manufactured right here in the USA and comes with a five-year warranty is well worth the money. And honestly, UnderCover blows it out of the water, in my opinion, this is a really great piece of kit.Install is going to be extremely easy as well. I'm gonna give it an easy one out of three wrenches, should only take you about 15-20 minutes to get this thing installed onto your truck. So without any further ado, let me show you how it's done. For this install you will need an impact, 1/2-inch wrench, 1/2-inch socket and something to cut some weatherstripping. So for the first step, we're going to start by installing these side rails to the bed rails, the one I have in my hand is the driver side. You can tell we have this fitting here, that's gonna go up towards the cab and then this lip is going to sit around the bed rail and this foam pad on the inside is going to be flush to this edge here. So it's going to sit like so and the nice thing about this kit is you have some reinforcements right here that are going to tell you exactly where the clamps go and once you have that lined up you can tighten it down with a 1/2-inch socket. So there's three clamps down the length of the bed rail and now for the clamps, there's actually two settings, there's a top setting and a lower setting. As you guys just saw I used the top setting, I found it a little bit easier to get this foot seated using that top setting. So again we're just going to do the same thing for the passenger side now. Again this fitting should be up by the cab, three clamps along the length of it. Now this time I'm gonna leave these a little bit loose, I loosened up the other side just to give us some more wiggle room when we put the top on to dial in the adjustment and make sure it's seated correctly. And again we're just going to do the same for the middle. And the same thing for the end.Next we are going to apply this weatherstripping that comes in the kit to this rail here that's closest to our rear window of the cab. And they give you a little bit extra on the end, I'm just gonna trim that up with a knife. So next we can grab our tonneau cover and I have it thrown up on the tailgate here, we're also going to need these thumb screw brackets because we're going to be installing those to this cab portion of the tonneau cover and then putting this up on top and tightening those down.So this smallest section of the tonneau cover, this is what's going to go closest to the cab, then we can grab the knob here and loosen that up to give us some wiggle room on the bolt and slide it in the corrugated aluminum. So leaving this loose is perfect for what we need right now, that's gonna give us some room to turn it. Once we do, it's going to lock into that channel and that lip is going to catch on our side rail and mount our tonneau cover. And obviously we need one for the other side as well. And we're just going to lean this up against the window of our truck for now, so be very careful when you throw that up to be very gentle as to not break the glass. So now I'm just going to unclip this buckle and lay this out, make sure we have it aligned correctly. Now one thing you want to watch as it's closing that these teeth are catching correctly, that's the biggest indicator letting you know whether or not this is looking all right. That one clicks in okay. And the last one.So I think that looks pretty good and we're pretty much perfectly aligned. So what I'm gonna do now is pull on this wire here, that'll release the panel and allow you to roll this back up. And you want to do this gently to make sure it doesn't move on you. So before we tighten down our clamp here I'm just going to install these drain tubes included in the kit. Now our bed doesn't really have any holes, as you can see it's got a liner in it, but you could drill a hole through this bulkhead if you like or if you had one of the plastic drop-in bed liners this would be perfect to put behind it. Once you have the drain tube in place, slide our clamp over and tighten down that thumbscrew. And now I'm just gonna do the same thing for the other side, sliding on that drain tube and then tightening down the clamp to secure the tonneau cover to the rail.So at this point with the side rails installed, the tonneau cover attached to them securely and aligned, I just want to show you a couple of features of this guy. So namely, we have these prop rods here and what they're for is to keep this from resting against that rear window when it's in the folded-up position. Now in order to attach these, you're going to press on the red button here and just slide it over that ball and it'll sit in that socket. And there's another one over there, I'm gonna do that one up real quick. And again, same thing, it just comes out of its little holder. Press that red button to the side and place the socket around that ball right there. Again this is going to keep the tonneau cover from resting against the glass in this position. You could drive around freely with it rolled up tucked away, it gives you a lot of room in the bed here, you can fit something big in here, no problem. So for now, I'm going to detach our struts and show you the positions that this tonneau cover can sit in. Now you got that one folded up all the way with the struts. You also have this position here which you can secure to the top part using these buckles. You can do that same thing basically for every panel. If you unfold it to this next one, it will lock in place right there. And lastly, you have the fully covered option which locks in place there. Tailgate up and that's it.So next, we're going to move on to the LEDs. And these are actually a pretty nice kit, you get two of these. Here's what they look like when they're on. On the back, you see we got some 3M double-sided tape on the back of the string as well as on the box here. Now you can hard mount this if you want. You have two screw holes right here that you can drill into the bed and mount this more permanently. This also comes with three double-A batteries included and some alcohol prep pads for you to stick this to the inside of the bed of your truck. Now this is really your choice, wherever you want to mount this, this can go pretty universal, I'm gonna show you where I might put it and what it might look like.So our truck has a spray-in bedliner so I don't know how well this is gonna stick but I'm thinking to manage this cable, I'm gonna tuck it up kind of there. And then our control box can go on this plastic piece, I think it will adhere well to that. And then our LED could go on this inside of like where the tailgate shuts and shine backwards, that's where I'm gonna go. So open up the prep pad, make sure it's clean. And they give you one to dry it off as well. And then you can just peel back the backing up and press in place, same thing with the string. Tuck our wire out of the way and that is pretty much it.And that is gonna do it for my review and install of the UnderCover Ultra Flex Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover in Black Textured, fitting all '15 and up F-150s with either the 5.5-foot bed or 6.5-foot beds. Thank you for watching. Keep it right here at
