      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys, it's Joe from AmericanTrucks, and today we're gonna be taking a closer look at the Duratrek PNC side step bars in black, fitting all '19 and newer crew cab Silverado 1500s. Now these are going to be a perfect option if you're looking for an easier way to get in and out of your truck at a budget friendly price. So what do we have going on here with the PNC side step bars? Well, these are heavy-duty steel, they're finished in that textured black powder coating which is not just there for looks. If you were going for the blackout look though this would be a perfect match, and that textured black matches the black accents on our '19 Silverado almost perfectly. It's also going to serve as a layer of protection from the elements. Now, that steel is so durable in fact that Duratrek advertises these to double as some side protection for your truck, nothing major but another layer. A light impact or two on the trail or the shopping cart in the parking lot. So, just another layer of protection before that stuff gets to the paint on your brand new Silverado. All in all, these are going to give you about four inches worth of area to plant your foot on there. You get those non-slip step pads. So even in wet or muddy conditions, you're going to be able to get in and out of your truck safely. Now, this one also features the tapered ends which just help clean up the looks a little bit. This is gonna look a little bit more flush than if it had straight ends. And personally, I really like the looks of this one, sort of that less is more approach. The black matching the black accents on the truck itself are a nice touch, this mud flap here and as well as the black on the mirror, basically a perfect match. And these, again, look right at home on the side of our brand new Silverado. Now, if you're not interested in the looks of this one, Duratrek even offers a stainless version. It's gonna be a little bit more expensive as it features that polished finish. But this one we're working with right here, we're looking at around 200 bucks, and that makes it really cost-effective, especially for a crew cab truck like this one. This is definitely well worth the money. Now before we move on to the install, one thing I did wanna touch about as far as fitment goes. This is intended for the newest 4th gen Silverado. So if you have a 2019 Legacy 3rd generation truck, this is not going to work with you. But with that being said, all 4th gen Silverados have pre-threaded holes on the bottom of them. They're perfect for side step mounting brackets, it makes these really really easy to install. Definitely a one out of three, no modifications required to get this installed on your truck. At most, it should take you about an hour or two to get both sides hooked up. So without any further ado, let me show you what tools you'll need and how it's done.Tools required for this install are going to be a ratchet, 13-millimeter socket, and a trim panel removal tool, but you could probably get away with a flathead screwdriver as well. So, like I said earlier, this is going to be real real easy. All the newer 4th gen Silverados have pre-threaded holes on the bottom, and they're perfect for mounting brackets, you can see some of them in the shot right here. So, all we're going to do is hold up our bracket and tighten it down with the 13-millimeter hardware included in the kit. Now, a couple of things I do wanna go over here. If your truck didn't come with side steps, these pre-threaded holes will most likely have plugs in them. If you need to remove those, a trim panel removal tool like this one will pop those right out. And secondly, all the brackets are the same, so you just need to grab one of the eight, they're not size specific. Thirdly, there are a lot of holes underneath here, I'm gonna tell you exactly which ones you need to go to. We're gonna work from the back of the truck forward, and we're gonna start at the rearmost position, which I'm going to call number one, this one we'll call number two. This is not going to get a bracket, we're gonna skip that one for now. There's gonna be two types of 13-millimeter bolts in this kit, one with captive washers and lock washers and one without, we're gonna start off using the ones without. The ones with the captive washers will be specific to mount up the side steps to the bracket itself. So, again, we're gonna skip that second position, we're gonna come right down here to the third set of threaded holes, and again, we're working from the back forward. So, here we are at number four, this is gonna be right past the body mount here. You can actually see number five still has those filler plugs in it from the factory, that's what yours might look like, but they pop right out again. Trim panel removal tool or a flathead screwdriver will take care of those. We're gonna come position number four here, and that is where our third bracket is gonna go. So here we are, at the forwardmost position, and this is where our last mounting bracket is gonna go.So, now we have all of our brackets installed, I just wanna touch on the fact that these are slotted. So if you do need some adjustment in these you could always loosen up those 13s, come back and get what you need from that slotted hole. So you can probably guess what the next step is going to be now that we have all of our mounting brackets installed. We're just gonna grab a side step, throw it up there, we're gonna use the 13-millimeter hardware to attach the two together. Now before we do that, a couple of things here, you wanna make sure you got the right step. The bags these come in are color coded, usually the passenger side is clear, driver side is green, the instructions go a little bit more in depth. You just wanna make sure you have the right one otherwise they won't line up. We're gonna put this up on the mounting brackets and we're gonna use the captive hardware. So this is gonna be the 13-millimeter bolt with a captive lock washer and flat washer, those are specific to install the step to the bracket. So, now we're just gonna lift this up and line it up. Now, just like the brackets, these are slotted. So if you need to make some adjustment, you can loosen those up and dial this in exactly where you need it to be. But we're gonna move on and do the same thing for the other three brackets. Now, the install is going to be the same exact thing on the other side. But that's gonna do it for my review and install of the Duratrek PNC side step bars in textured black, fitting all '19 and newer crew cab Silverado 1500s. Thank you guys for watching. If this video helped you out in any way, whether it's with the install or you're just cross shopping some side step bars, let me know in the comments section down below.
