Jake: Jake here for AmericanTrucks. And today I've got the RedRock short five-inch billet, black antenna fitting all 1999 and newer Silverado 1500s. If you find yourself catching that big whip antenna on branches or your garage, or anywhere really, you're likely on the hunt for something that's going to get in the way a lot less. Or maybe you just want to make your truck a bit more sleek for the day-to-day. Either way, this antenna is an easy, inexpensive way to do just what you're looking for.So, what we've got here is a five-inch or shorty antenna. It's going to replace that big OEM whip one that comes on these trucks from the factory. Obviously, a much shorter version than your stock antenna, but one that doesn't compromise on functionality either. Your radio reception will remain mostly unchanged. You may see a bit of a difference in reception if you're in an area with very poor signal. But in most cases, this is not going to negatively affect tuning into your favorite station. Now, if you're out hitting the trails, or you're on a tricky job site or something like that, below profile form factor here means that you aren't going to have to worry about this getting snagged on the obstacles, since it's not going to stick out above any of the taller parts of the truck. And form goes with function here, as this is a big upgrade in looks from your factory antenna. It's made from CNC machine high-grade billet aluminum. And though it may be small, it's very strong. And since it's so short, you're not going to get this caught on anything either. So, it should last a long time, and hold up well to anything you can throw at it. It's finished off in this black hard anodized coating to keep the metal protected even further, and to make for a stealthy look. You're not looking specifically for this thing. You may not even notice it. And I think that's a big benefit here. You're getting solid construction with good looks. So, it's a win-win in my book.Coming in at around $50, this is the least expensive option out there for such an antenna. In fact, it's the second least expensive antenna we have available right now. And you're still getting a nice piece here. So, if you're on the hunt for a replacement, I really don't think that you can go wrong with this. Installation could not be much easier coming in at a one out of three on the difficulty meter, should only take you about five minutes to get it installed. Just unscrew your old antenna, and screw this one on.You get a bunch of thread adapters included as well, so it should work on any Silverado, and you can even take it with you, should you upgrade to a newer Silverado in the future. And now to show you the install process, let's throw it over to one of our AT customers.Female Speaker: Today, we're going to be installing the billet antenna from AmericanTrucks. The actual product looks like this nice and short. It's actually made of really nice material. So, the first step of the install is actually using a box wrench, a size 10-millimeter. What we're going to do is we're actually going to place a D Box Wrench at the base of the stock antenna. And we're going to start loosening it up. Once you do that, it should come off fairly easy. You should be able to do it by hand afterwards. And what you do next is you place the adapter that it comes with, which looks like this. And you are going to place this at the end of the billet antenna, and you're going to screw that part in.Luckily this truck was a 2018 Silverado 1500. It doesn't take any additional adapters. It does come with some of these rubber and plastic gaskets that will help lift up the antenna. It's just aesthetic. It doesn't hurt the antenna in any way if you use one or not. So, the last step of doing this for install is you're going to place the antenna where you took the stock antenna off that, and you're just going to screw it on.And that is actually it for install.Jake: That's going to do it for our review and install of the RedRock short five-inch billet, black antenna fitting all 1999 and newer Silverado, 1500s. Thanks so much for watching, and remember for all things Silverado, be sure to keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
