Jake: Jake here for AmericanTrucks. And today, I'm taking a look at the Ranch Hand Summit Front Bumper, fitting 2016 to 2018 Silverado 1500s. If a bull bar or a regular grille guard just isn't quite enough for your truck, then you're going to like this setup here. It goes beyond just a new bumper or even a grille guard, and gives you the best of both worlds in one super heavy-duty package. It's going to work really hard and make a big visual statement. Now, unlike a lot of other bumpers or even grille guards, this setup takes the best of both worlds and combines them into one, frankly, absolutely gigantic statement piece for the front end of your truck. Calling this one the Summit is not really all that tongue-in-cheek either, since this is kind of the peak of Ranch Hand's offerings for this gen of Silverado. It combines that traditional type of grille guard with mesh covering for the factory grille and crossbars in front of that for some added protection.Plus, you get the big central uprights here with the flat fronts and the covers for the headlights over here as well. So, everything on the front end of your truck is going to be protected. And underneath all of that, you've got this big-old diamond plate-style front bumper, and that essentially is going to take the place of your factory bumper. Now, this thing is absolutely massive, and it's going to cover the entirety of the lower front end of your truck, and even juts up here to integrate by the headlights. So safe to say, this is going to give your truck a lot of additional front-end real estate and protection to go along with those aggressive looks. But there's a bit more here than meets the eye. Now, this has provisions to keep your front parking sensors and your fog lights if your truck came so equipped. And, of course, you also get to keep your original tow hooks right here, and you don't have to modify anything in the bumper to get those in either. It's a pretty slick setup. It integrates very well, and it makes for a much more functional and aggressive-looking front end. And though some of these aftermarket bumpers can look like they don't belong in your truck, I think this one integrates really well. Personally, it makes me think of some kind of service truck, like one you'd see at a Fire Department or in the Forest Service. And that, to me, is just pretty darned cool. The construction here is all stainless steel, and it's been powder-coated with this really nice gloss black for a clean look and additional protection against rust and corrosion. The bumper portion down here, as you can see, is all diamond plate, and the tubing up here is 12-gauge stainless. So suffice it to say, this is a pretty tough setup. And it is all one piece, too. Just as you see it right here on the stand is how it came out of the box. So it should be able to handle anything and everything you can throw at it. And since this is all very well integrated, it's going to look good and it's going to stay tough for a long time.Pricing comes in at about $1,800 for this one, making it a bit more on the expensive side as compared to other bumpers or grille guards. But as far as setups that include both of those things, this is a pretty good value, and it's going to undercut some of the other options out there for front bumpers. So if you like the style and you want the function, this is going to be a good buy for you.Installation is going to get a one out of three on our difficulty meter, and you should plan on it taking you about two hours to complete. Now, everything you need, again, is included in the box, and everything comes together like this. So, this is a totally bolt-on install. You don't have to do any modifications to your truck. However, I say all that, and I say the one out of three difficulty with the caveat that this is obviously a very large and very heavy piece of equipment. So definitely plan on asking a friend or two to help you get this mounted up. It's going to be much safer and much easier that way. And to show you exactly what you've got to do to get this on your truck, let's head out to the install bay now.Man: The tools you'll need for this project are an impact gun and/or a ratchet, a 21-millimeter, a 19-millimeter, an 18-millimeter, a 15-millimeter socket, as well as a 10-millimeter socket, a long extension, a 19-millimeter wrench, a 15-millimeter wrench, 18-millimeter wrench, and a trim removal tool. Hi, everyone. Today we're going to show you how to install this bumper on your Silverado, but first, let's watch a short video on how to uninstall the stock bumper first.Sara: All right. So, the first step in our uninstall with your hood popped is to remove all of the pop clips that hold on your rad support cover. Grab a pop clip removal tool or you can use a flathead screwdriver, and let's get these removed. With all of the pop clips removed, you can now grab your cover and remove it off the truck. Now we can see the four bolts on the top of our grille. We need to remove those with a 10-millimeter socket. With all your bolts removed, you can grab the grille and pull back straight towards you to release all the clips. All right, now that the grille is removed, we can see the bolts that we have to remove to take off your bumper. There are two on each side, one is up top here and one is just on the inside of the frame down there. Grab an 18-millimeter socket and let's get these removed. Now, I just want to point out this one is an aftermarket replacement bolt. Yours will look like the factory one that we just removed. Repeat that on the other side. All right, now we're moving on to underneath your bumper, these are the last two bolts holding it on, so make sure when you're underneath, it is supported. Now, these are also aftermarket. Yours will look more like the factory bolts. And these are 17 on our truck, so grab a 17-millimeter socket, and let's get these removed. Repeat that on the other side. Now that all of your bolts are removed, you can remove the bumper off of your truck. Now, we also do have to remove the factory bumper brackets. There's three 15-millimeter bolts. So grab your 15-millimeter socket and let's get these removed. Repeat that on the other side. Next up, we're gonna remove the bumper support bars. Now, you don't have to remove these for install, but you may see these peeking out from behind your new bumper, and they are not used, so we're gonna take them off. There are two 15-millimeter bolts right on the other side of the frame behind here, let's get these removed. Repeat that on the other side.Man: With our stock bumper out of the way, we can go ahead and start the installation of our new bumper. First thing we're going to do is reinstall our grille back on the truck because it'll be a whole lot easier to put it in now than after we get our bumper on. So, we'll just go ahead and line up our tabs. Push it into place. And go ahead and reinstall our four 10-millimeter bolts at the top of our grille. Now we'll go ahead and reinstall the radiator support cover using our original pushpins. The next thing we need to do is temporarily remove our tow hooks. So we're going to do that using an 18-millimeter socket and an 18-millimeter wrench. So, we'll just go ahead and take these...there's one bolt here and then there's a shorter bolt on the inside here on both sides. So we're going to go ahead and take those out. That way, we can go ahead and install our lower support bracket, and then we'll put the tow hooks back in.Now, on the driver's side, we don't need to take out the short bolt on the inside of the frame. We'll just go ahead and insert the bolt through the support bracket and reattach the nut. Now we are going to go ahead and loosen up the short bolt on the inside just to give us a little playroom when we go ahead and install the bumper. Now we can go ahead and repeat this process for the other side. Now one thing you may have to do when you start to install this lower support bracket, you'll notice that it may not sit flush against the frame of the truck. If that's the case, what we need to do is loosen up this bolt right here for the support bar on both sides of the frame so that we can move that up to be able to get that support bracket to lay flat. So we're gonna go ahead and loosen up that bolt with a 21-millimeter socket. And you can see that gives us the movement that we need to go ahead and get that to lay flat. Now if your truck has factory fog lights, which ours does not, you would use this bracket here to go ahead and mount those factory fog lights and then mount this bracket to the bumper. Now, the kit does come with the supplied hardware to be able to do that for you. But like I said, since we don't have fog lights on our truck, we're not going to be able to show you that. But what you would do is use the 5/16 bolts, nuts, and washers that are in the kit, attach your fog light through these holes here, and then use the 1/2-inch bolts to go from this bracket to the inside of the bumper here to go ahead and mount your fog lights in.Like I said, the kit does come with all the hardware you'll need to do that if you have the factory fog lights. Now, the same thing also goes with your factory parking sensors. Our truck does not have them, but the bumper is drilled with the spots for the parking sensors. But since we don't have them, what we're going to do is use these supplied plugs to go ahead and fill those holes in. I'll show you how to install those in just a second. All right, so these plugs here are going to go in these holes, and there's four of them across the front of the bumper. All you have to do is just slide it into place. Make sure that it seals all the way around. And then repeat that process for the other three. Now we're ready to put in our bumper. As you can tell, this is a very heavy bumper because I've got a friend here helping me hold it, as well as it sitting on a stool. So what we're going to do is line up these three bolts on these plates here, one on each side, with the frame mounts on the truck. Then we can go ahead and get our bolts started and get this thing lined up and installed. Alright, so we've already got... as you can tell, started on one side and we've got the outside bolt here started to hold it in place. Now, we've got two more on each bracket, one on the inside of the frame here and one at the very top.So we'll go ahead and get these other bolts started. Like I said, you're definitely going to need at least another pair of hands, and you want to make sure that this is safely secured before you crawl underneath the truck and start to tighten this stuff up. You want to make sure that it's not going to fall while you're in the middle of it. All right. Once you've got all three of them started, then you can go ahead and make sure you repeat that process for the other side and then tighten everything down.So it's a little tight to get in here with an actual socket, so we're going to use a wrench to actually snug these up. Now we're not going to tighten them down all the way just yet, we're just going to snug them up to make sure that it holds the bumper in place. That way, we can check our alignment, make any adjustments that we need to, and then we'll go ahead and tighten them up.Alright, so once we've got it snug, now we'll go ahead and snug up the other five. And go ahead and check our alignment, and then we'll tighten it back down. Alright, now there's two more bolts that we need to install and these are supplied in the kit. These are the 1/2-inch carriage bolts here. And they're going to go right here at the bottom of the bumper and it's going to connect to that support brace that we installed earlier next to the tow hooks. So we'll go ahead and insert our bolt from the outside, and we'll apply a flat washer and a lock washer and also the supplied nuts. Now, we go ahead and tighten it up using our 19-millimeter wrench. And you can repeat that process for the other side. Now, last thing we need to do here, if you happen to live in one of those states that requires a front license plate, the kit does come with some 1/4-inch bolts and some nuts. So you can go ahead and put these bolts through the license plate into the hole in the front of the bumper. And then attach the nuts from the backside, and then you're ready to go.And that wraps up our review and install of the Ranch Hand Summit Front Bumper for the '16 to '18 Silverado 1500. Thanks for watching. And remember for all things Silverado, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
