Justin: You should be checking out the Pedal Commander for your Super Duty if you are looking to help eliminate the sometimes annoying lag caused by the drive-by-wire system in your truck. Now, the Pedal Commander will feature 4 different modes, with 9 different levels of sensitivity adjustment, and can be had for that low to mid $300 price point.Install is gonna be a simple plug-and-play job. So, therefore, the site's gonna call this pretty soft one out of three wrenches on the old difficulty meter and few minutes of your time to complete from start to finish. But if you hang with me for a bit, we'll walk you through this job later in the video. So if you weren't aware, these devices connect to the throttle pedal in your truck and, through the different modes, manipulate the voltage to change the throttle sensitivity of your rig. Now, these are not tuning devices, and as a result, they will not add any horsepower or any torque or make your truck faster. But at the same time, they're also not going to alter your truck's calibration, and, therefore, will not be detectable like a tune when it comes to servicing your truck. And that's something a lot of people really enjoy about this particular option. Nowadays, most, if not all, modern cars and trucks utilize what's called a drive-by-wire system. Meaning, when you hit the gas, the throttle pedal has an electrical connector that sends a signal to the ECU or PCM. And at that point, the ECU tells the throttle body when to open and by how much. This is obviously a far cry from the old throttle cable days, where you had a physical connection between the throttle pedal and the throttle body, or, in some cases, carburetor in those old-school rigs. Now, even though this all happens extremely fast with the drive-by-wire system, there are still instances where part throttle inputs tend to result in a laggy feeling. And that's kind of the feeling you get when you hit the pedal, nothing really seems to happen until you really [inaudible 00:01:49] it. Well, that's where the Pedal Commander's gonna come into play. When installed, the Pedal Commander is going to alter that voltage signal sent by your throttle pedal to your PCM, which, in turn, will cause the throttle body to open more in some cases or less in some cases, depending on the mode you are in, and, of course, your throttle input. So, for instance, on modes like City, Sport, and Sport+, the Pedal Commander is going to incrementally increase the voltage, giving that same pedal input to make the truck do more with less pedal input. Now, this is actually the opposite for the eco mode, where the Pedal Commander is actually going to reduce the voltage given that same input in an attempt to increase your fuel economy and traction on those very slippery days. Now I know this all can seem a bit confusing, and, hey, if you want a thorough breakdown of how this all works, along with some pretty cool experiments we did here in the shop, check out our "What's Up With That?" episode on the topic of throttle control devices like this back on our YouTube page if you haven't already done so.Now, this particular option does feature four different modes, with nine levels of sensitivity adjustment for each individual mode. And that's gonna make for a grand total of 36 different settings, which really allows you to fine-tune your driving experience. Now on top of that, the Pedal Commander here is gonna be one of your only options in the category that does feature an Apple and Android app support. And the app itself, I will say, is very attractive and very easy to use.So certainly worth mentioning for those of you who prefer to control things on their iPhone and stash the physical controller. Now, if not, the controller is very well laid out, very easy to navigate, and easy to mount anywhere, which I'm about to show you right now on our 7.3 Super Duty out in the shop. So let's go check it out.Man: Hey, guys. I'm gonna walk you through the installation of our Pedal Commander on our 2018 Ford F-250. It's not a bad installation. Let's get started. So first thing I did is I have our Pedal Commander out here on our workbench. I'm gonna go through what we have in our kit. They're gonna give you an alcohol wipe. We're gonna use that for the dash when we figure out where we're going to install and mount our Pedal Commander. They're giving us our adhesive backing here, our Velcro, and then the pedal commander itself. Now I'm gonna remove the bracket that holds the Pedal Commander, and that's gonna hold it to the dash.So I'm gonna take what we have here as our Velcro. I'm gonna stick it on one side of this now, and then be able to put it back on here. And then we'll stick this one on the dash. It's gonna hold it to the dash wherever we decide to mount it. And we'll use our alcohol wipe to wipe that down. Now we're gonna go take this, fish it through the dash, and start hooking it up to our throttle pedal.First thing we're gonna do is we're going to fish our wires through our steering column here, underneath it, down to our throttle pedal, push them down in here. Fish as much down through there as we can. It's gonna allow me to end up finding a good spot. I think I'm gonna mount this right here. And that way I'll have easy access to be able to adjust it.Next, since we have that fished down through, we're gonna hook it up to our pedal. Now that we have our wires run through the dash under here, now we're going to disconnect our wire connector at our throttle. And then we're gonna install these and hook these up. I'm gonna do kind of laying upside down so we can get a shot of this.So you're just gonna disconnect it like that. We will take our new one, install it in place, push down on the red connector. And then we will take our connector that came off, and the one that we have in the new Pedal Commander. It's a lot easier when you ain't laying upside down in the truck, but for us to get a shot of this to see what's going on, I had to do it. Once you get these connected, then what you're gonna do is tie up the excess wire. You can use a wire tie and tie that up and put it underneath the dash. Make sure it's in no place where it's gonna get pinched or interfere with the throttle or the brake pedal. And now we can mount our Pedal Commander. Now that we have our connections down there done at the throttle, I'm gonna take our alcohol swab that comes in our kit. I'm gonna wipe a spot right here. I'm gonna take the other half of our Velcro. We tape off of it, install that right there. And we'll be able to make sure you just give it little bit of a push, and now our Pedal Commander's installed.Next, we're gonna go and set it up. So now that we have our key on, I'm gonna show you how to operate our Pedal Commander. You're going to push the big star button. That's going to allow you to change how you want the settings. You got Economy, City, Sport, and Sport+. So you're just gonna be able to touch them and go down through, and it will take you to wherever you want to go.If you wanna go the Economy, you'll hit it two times and hold it and it'll bring it into Economy. For now, we'll just put it into City. Now, when you get into any of these modes, the plus and minuses are going to be the intensity of how accurate the Pedal Commander is.And then when you hit these buttons, you'll see it just moves the green hour. The higher up it goes, the more sensitive it's gonna be. The farther down it goes, the less sensitive. Now I'm gonna show you the Bluetooth option. So now this Pedal Commander has a Bluetooth option. What you're gonna do is go on Pedal Commander's website. There's an app. You're gonna download the app. It's gonna ask you to agree to terms. When you get through that, then it's gonna ask you for the code on the back of the Pedal Commander. You're gonna punch it in. It's gonna connect with the Pedal Commander in the vehicle. And it's pretty simple. You can do this right with your phone. If you tap on the different settings, you're going to be able to change it, just like that. And then the plus or minuses is the same as the other one, where the intensity, the more you take it out, the less sensitive the pedal's gonna be. And then the more you increase the sensitivity, it'll just keep adding green to the highest till you get to the highest setting that you can. Once you do all this, you've got it all set up. Your Pedal Commander's installed. You're ready to go.That wraps up this review and install of our Pedal Commander Bluetooth Throttle Response Controller for '11 to '22 F-250 and F-350 Super Duties. Thanks for watching. And for all things F-250, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.

      Description

Eliminate Drive-By-Wire Pedal Delay the Bluetooth Way. You can now eliminate that annoying throttle delay, which is well-known on 2011-2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty models, with a Pedal Commander Bluetooth Throttle Response Controller. Ford uses a drive-by-wire system that monitors the position of the gas pedal to control the throttle electronically, similar to a dimmer switch. The problem with this setup is that the signal from the pedal has to first be sent to the ECU, which in turn then sends the signal to the actuator motor that controls the throttle body itself. This delay is most noticeable when trying to speed up to merge with fast moving traffic or pass a slower moving car. However, you can now eliminate this annoying delay for crisp throttle response with a Pedal Commander Bluetooth Throttle Response Controller.

Four Adjustable Control Modes. Unlike other throttle control devices that are either on or off, the Pedal Commander comes with four preset control modes for Eco, City, Sport and Sport Plus driving applications. Best of all, each mode has 8 different levels of sensitivity that can be controlled manually or with your Blue Tooth enabled smart device. This will allow you to adjust each mode to your own personal driving style and needs. You can now use your smart device to change the settings instead of physically bending down and doing it manually on the Pedal Commander.

Easy Plug and Play Installation. The Pedal Commander Bluetooth Throttle Response Controller connects directly into the stock throttle position sensor. This sensor is found on the drive-by-wire gas pedal using an OEM style plug and play connector with no permanent modifications required. The Pedal Commander is 100% reversible, making it warranty friendly.

Two-Year Product Warranty. Pedal Commander manufactures their Bluetooth Throttle Response Controller to the highest quality and standards with CE and TUV Certification. However, in the event you do receive a defective or malfunctioning device, Pedal Commander will replace it free of charge within 2 years of the original purchase date.

Compatible with Aftermarket Programmers. The Pedal Commander Bluetooth Throttle Response Controller can be used in conjunction with common aftermarket OBD-II programmers and/or monitors such as: SCT, Diablosport, Hypertech, Superchips, Bully Dog, and Edge. If your vehicle has a custom tune, it is not recommended to use the Pedal Commander Throttle Response Controller. A custom tune can improve the throttle response.

Application. This Pedal Commander Bluetooth Throttle Response Controller is specifically designed for use on 2011-2024 Ford F-250 Super Duty models.
