Noah: Noah here for AmericanTrucks, and this is the Fox Performance Series 2.0 Front IFP Shock for a 2 to 3.5-inch Lift for the '17 to '22 4WD F-250 Super Duty. If you lifted your truck and now you're looking to maximize its on and off-road performance with an upgraded shock designed for higher ride height, then these from Fox should definitely be on your radar. So, you lifted your truck and you're unhappy with the ride quality and off-road performance. Now, one of the best ways to really get a responsive yet comfortable ride is to go with an upgraded shock like one of these from Fox. The Performance Series 2.0 Front IPF Shock is designed to give you some more on-road comfort if your ride is soggy and disappointing and a more predictable and responsive off-road experience that you can push to the limit. Now, this specific shock is designed to go on trucks with a 2 inch to a 3.5 inch suspension lift. So, let's talk about the construction of this guy. Fox is a big-name brand, so you can expect the bar to be set pretty high with anything they make, and I think these do live up to all the expectations. We're looking at an internal IFP monotube design with Fox's race-proven valving technology inside. Now, the shaft coming out of the bottom here is hard chrome plated 5/8 inch heat-treated alloy steel. So, that shaft is going to be really hard and it's going to stay really hard. Now, the body that the shaft feeds into as the suspension compresses is made from CNC machined 6061-T6 aluminum, so this won't rust even in the worst environments and on the saltiest roads. Now, shock absorbers have a huge rust problem, and that's usually the death of most of them on the road. Now, with an aluminum body, you're safe from rust and you won't have to worry about it ever. Now, just to keep everything looking minty fresh, everything has a clear anodized finish, which is going to ward off any corrosion from the crud that gets chucked up from chunky tires or something like that. So, this shock costs around 250 bucks, and just to clarify, this guy is sold individually. So, if you're sold on the shock absorber, you'll need to grab two so you can have one on each side of the rear. Now, there is a lot of research and design that goes into Fox Racing stuff and you can expect top-tier performance and quality even at a price that isn't a shocker in terms of high end performance suspension. Now, this shock has an install difficulty of two out of three wrenches and about an hour for the install time. Shock absorber installations usually aren't overly complicated but they can be kind of difficult because of the nature of the job. I believe in you, and if you're still unsure that you can handle the install, here's an AT customer that's going to walk you through that install process step by step on their truck.Man: Hey everyone. We're here today with this 2017 F-250. It's got a 2-inch lift in the front, we also call a leveling kit. Today we're going to be doing a shock removal and installation. From americantrucks.com, I ordered the Fox 2.0, so we'll be installing those. And these are the Rancho shocks that we'll be replacing. That's the before shot there. So, top and the bottom there. With respect to tools we'll need, is we'll need a 19-millimeter, a 13/16, it's hard to tell with the sunlight, a 21 millimeter, a flashlight just for convenience so you can see everything, and then an 18-millimeter socket, and then also, a hammer. All right. To get started, we're going to do, is we're going to focus on the top first and we'll do the bottom removal last. So, the top nut there is actually a 21-millimeter. We're going to use the closed end inside here so it doesn't slip off. For the bottom on the Rancho specifically, now each shock installation is different, but the shock has a nut that's actually welded in. And so, we're going to install this using, hold it actually, using a 13/16 open-ended wrench there. Now, this is where the hammer comes in. So, if it is difficult to install, go ahead and position it as close as you can, and with your hammer here, give it a nice there to secure. So, just make sure that it is aligned on the nut properly. Then with that, what I'm going to do next is I'm going to loosen the top nut.Okay. Now, remember the trick that I... Sorry, the tool that I covered before, this is a 21-millimeter. I showed you the speed, the speed, what I call speed wrench here. It's two-sided. Sorry, it's a 19 and this is a 21. This is where it comes in really handy. You're going to install it here and drop it in there. This way, it makes the job much faster. It's a long bolt, so just be patient. All right. We are just about there. There's a little bit more at the top. All right, not removable there. Now, as you can see, the top is free and clear. The only thing left there is a bushing, which we can remove so it doesn't fall out somewhere you can't find it. And also I forgot to mention that for this removal and install, you don't have to remove the liner. You've got enough clearance up there. So, one thing that I did though is I turned the wheels to driver all the way to give plenty of room for the removal and install. Next we'll be removing the bottom now and then the shock will be ready to come out. Okay. For the bottom, fortunately, on my truck, the backside of the nut does not have to be held, it has the retaining method there. This side we'll take a 18-millimeter, and go ahead and loosen that. All right. These are nuts. I'm going to hold that because I will reuse that. So, keep your bottom hardware, you will need it for the new shock. Now, the shock is under load, so gently push up there, pull the bolt out, and then your shock will come out, like that.Okay. So, now for the Fox installation, we have a new set of tools. We will be utilizing the same 18-millimeter socket for the bottom as we'll retain the old hardware. On the Rancho, it takes an Allen key at the top versus a nut, like the Rancho did, and that is a 1/4 inch Allen key that will fit right there, and we're going to hold it through the top, as well as the Fox now uses a 19-millimeter open-ended wrench, like such. Just like we did with the removal, we're going to go in the same way. We're going to remove the nut and the upper bushing and retaining washer. We're leaving the bottom because this will go through the bottom to the frame on the truck. All right. So, we come through here, I'm going to go through the bottom just like we removed the old shock, and then we're going to push up on the shock. This is a newer shock, so it is a bit harder to push it. Then we're going to position the nut, like that. Now it's retained. Make sure the bushing is centered here. You can still move it. If you need to correct it, make sure that that bushing sets nice and flush there. I always like to make sure the decals face this way so I can see the name of the shock there. On the lower side, if you do have an issue of pushing it through and getting it in, you can use a scissor jack to compress the shock to position the bolt. Then I'm going to go ahead and install the nut on the bottom, so we will secure the installation. Now, what I did there was I just backed it up just a little bit to fit the nut in because this is very close to the control arm here. I always like to start the threads with my hand so I know I've got positive engagement and I'm not cross-threading it. Now I will use my 18-millimeter ratchet and socket. Go ahead and tighten this down. Okay. All right. With this, now you see the thread protrusion through the top. We're going to install the bushing and the retaining washer, like this. So, this side, make sure this lip goes to the bottom. So, it should look like this at install. That is very important. All right. We're almost there guys. Now, it's just a nut that we're going to install, and I'm just going to thread it there. And it is a self-locking nut. To have that positive retention, you can use an open-ended wrench for that. That would be a 19-millimeter. I'm going to use a speed wrench here. There you go, 19 millimeter makes the job much faster. Now, once I get this on there, you would need the Allen key to hold it until you see this happen. That is when the entire body is moving and that's when you know you need to hold it with the Allen key. We're going to install it right there so we can hold it. Okay. So, that should be your setup right there. Okay. Allen key up here, wrench down here. And as you can see, as I'm turning this, the body of the shock is not rotating. That's how you know you've got positive retention on the nut to shaft there.Noah: All right guys, that is it. That was the Fox Performance Series 2.0 Front IFP Shock for a 2 to 3.5-inch Lift for the '17 to '22 4WD F-250 Super Duty. For all things F-250, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
