Simple installation for anyone.
Hey, guys. It's Joe from AmericanTrucks and today, I'm going to be reviewing and installing the Extang Trifecta 2.0 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover fitting all '15 and up F150s.This tonneau cover is going to be perfect for the F150 owner who's looking to protect his cargo from the elements or prying eyes and wants something that can roll up and down really, really quickly. The leather on the tonneau cover is going to be impact, UV and scratch resistant, really durable stuff as well as the frame underneath is made out of an aircraft aluminum that is extremely tough. Now, one thing I really like about this tonneau cover is there's no snaps or buckles. There's no seals along the side that you're messing with. These tonneau covers tend to shrink or expand in cold weather, which means getting those last few snaps can be a real pain in the butt. Since this thing has its own frame and rolls up with the frame still attached to it, you never have to deal with any of that, and that is a really huge bonus when looking at tonneau covers.Extang also claims this is going to help you clean up some of the turbulent air that comes over the cab, which is going to increase fuel economy so much.In fact, Extang claims up to 10% fuel economy increase. This tonneau cover is also 100% American made and boasts a limited lifetime warranty from Extang. Now, this tonneau cover can be rolled up quickly too, so in real time I'm gonna show you how fast that gets done. So we are going to cheat a little bit.We got the tailgate down already. All you have to do is pull down on these. They tuck right into the rail. Same thing for the other side. Then you can fold this back and again and then hit the buckle on this side and then the buckle on the other side. And that's all there is to it.So with the tonneau cover rolled up, that brings me to the first thing I just wanted to make a note of. When this thing is fully rolled up, you can't roll that up any further than what it is right now. So if you plan on carrying anything big in the bed, it is gonna rob you of a little bit of space up near the cab.Now another thing is with all-leather tonneau covers like this one, if somebody wanted to really get into this thing, they could. It's not the best in security. So if you ever plan on carrying anything pretty consistently that's expensive in the bed, I recommend taking a look at some of the hard tri-fold cover options that we have on our website as well.Pricing for this is going to vary based on your cab and bed size, but expect to pay around 400, 450 bucks, somewhere in that range. And for that price, this is a really good quality item. This is definitely a lifetime tonneau cover, something you can have on your truck for 10, 15 years and it's really well worth the money. Now you saw how quickly I rolled this thing up and the install is going to be just about as easy as that. I'm gonna give it a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Should only take you 15 to 20 minutes to get this on your truck. So let me show you how it's done.So out of the box, your tonneau cover is going to be folded up like you can see here. So we're just gonna put it up on the bed of the truck, folded up like this. That makes it a little bit easier to deal with. And this edge right here that kind of overhangs, this is going to be the back edge. So this is going to be up against the rear window. And I'm just getting that centered up. Now you want to make sure that this weatherstripping underneath here is gonna lay flush against this bedrail.Next, we can unclip the two buckles at the back, unfold this thing and make sure it's lined up correctly. So with the tonneau cover centered up, I'm just gonna fold it back up and we're gonna clamp down the cab section of the tonneau cover. So I crawled into the bed of the truck here and we move on to the passenger side clamp. Now, first of all, this clamp is on a lobe, so when you have it folded in like that, youcan slide it left and right, and then when you fold it out it kinda locks into position. So what we're gonna do is move this thing over here and as you can see, this rubber pad here is a little bit low, so we're gonna take care of that by moving it back a little bit and then this is threaded, spin it to the right. So now we can put it in place, lock our lobe in and tighten this thumb screw. This is a tough turn only because there's a nyloc nut in there. Once we have this all the way threaded down, this clamp will come up and lock into place like that. And as you can see that's not going anywhere. Now we're just gonna do the same thing for the other side.So with the clamps near the cab tightened down, we're ready to unroll this thing and get started on the rear ones. So right here is going to be our rear clamp and this is actually a pretty nice piece of design. As you can see, the way it sits here, this is how it will be locked in if this thing was rolled up and it kind of locks into this rail here. But when you want to attach it, you just put your finger in, pull it down. And again, this is on a lobe, so in order to attach that to the bedrail, bring it to position. This is spring loaded, so just pull it and lock that lobe in place and let go, and that is the rear done. Now if you do have a bed liner or something like that, you will have to cut a little slot in that in order to make contact with the metal part of this bedrail. But once that's on, that is gonna be it for attaching the rear, so we're just gonna do the same thing to the other side. And that is gonna do it for my review and install the Extang Trifecta 2.0 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover fitting all '15 and newer F150s. Thank you for watching.I'm Joe. And keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
