Hey, guys. It's Sara with americantrucks.com. And today, we have a review and install of the Barricade HD Off-Road Front Bumper with LED Lighting, fitting your '16 to '18 Silverado 1500. This is perfect for the Silverado owner who's looking for a high-clearance front bumper that includes lighting, as well as several other mounting points for additional accessories, like an overrider hoop, a skid plate, and mounting points for a light bar. This full-width high-clearance front bumper features steel plate construction and a nice textured black powder-coat finish, to give you that aftermarket look. This bumper includes two high-powered LED cube lights, and also features mounting points, as I said before, for an overrider hoop, as well as a skid plate, that's available separately on our website. This bumper works with your factory tow hooks, and includes block-off plates if you're not going to run a light bar in the front, and it also features a bracket for those of you required to run a front plate. So, as far as price goes, this bumper comes in at around at $900, which is low to middle-of-the-road price-wise when compared to other options. And for your money, you are getting the off-road look and functionality, as well as lighting, while saving some money over more pricey options. So, as far as the install goes, I'm giving this one a two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. The bumper does feature direct bolt-up install, but because the wheel well liners do hang a bit below the bumper, they may require cutting if you choose to trim them. All in all, it can be done within two hours. So, let's jump into our install. For this install, you will need an impact gun, or a ratchet will work just fine. You will also need 10, 15, 16, 17, and 18-millimeter sockets, 13, 15, 16, 18, and 10-millimeter wrenches, cutters, a pop clip removal tool, the included Allen key, and you may want a razor knife or another cutting tool for your wheel well liners. All right, so the first step in our uninstall, with your hood popped, is to remove all of the pop clips that hold on your rad support cover. Grab your pop clip removal tool, or you can use a flat-head screwdriver, and let's get these removed. With all of the pop clips removed, you can now grab your cover and remove it off the truck. Now we can see the four bolts on the top of our grille. We need to remove those with a 10-millimeter socket. With all of your bolts removed, you can grab the grille and pull back straight towards you to release all the clips. All right. Now that the grille is removed, we can see the bolts that we have to remove to take off your bumper. There are two on each side. One is up top here, and one is just on the inside of the frame, down there. Grab an 18-millimeter socket and let's get these removed. Now, I just want to point out this one is an aftermarket replacement bolt. Yours will look like the factory one that we just removed. Repeat that on the other side. All right, now we're moving on to underneath your bumper. These are the last two bolts holding it on, so make sure when you're underneath, it is supported. Now, these are also aftermarket. Yours will look more like the factory bolts. And these are 17 on our truck, so grab a 17-millimeter socket and let's get these removed. Repeat that on the other side. Now that all of your bolts are removed, you can remove the bumper off of your truck. Now, we also do have to remove the factory bumper brackets. There's three 15-millimeter bolts, so grab your 15-millimeter socket and let's get these removed. Repeat that on the other side.Next up, we're going to remove the bumper support bars. Now, you don't have to remove these for install, but you may see these peeking out from behind your new bumper, and they are not used, so we're going to take them off. There are two 15-millimeter bolts right on the other side of the frame behind here. Let's get these removed. Repeat that on the other side. All right. So, there are a few things we need to install on our bumper before we can get it on our truck. We're going to start with the grates along the center here if you don't have lighting for the center. Starting with the largest grate, we're gonna line it up right in the center of this opening, going in from the backside. We're lining up each of the holes in the grate with the brackets on the bumper. Go ahead and slide your Allen hardware through, with a nut on the other side. Repeat that with the rest of your hardware. At this point, you can tighten these down. And I will say, just tighten them evenly, so that the grate is equally spaced in your bumper. Repeat that with the rest of your openings, using the included Allen hardware, with the preinstalled lock washer and washer. Now, with the included Allen key and a 10-millimeter wrench, tighten it down. And finally, repeat that for the last two mounting points. And with your included Allen key and 10-millimeter wrench, tighten it down. Now you can install the two grates on each side. Now, if for some reason these don't line up nicely, there is a ton of adjustability in each of these grates. You can always loosen up your hardware and get it exactly where you want it. And using the same hardware you used for your other grate, go ahead and get it installed. Then, with your 10-millimeter wrench and included Allen key, tighten it down. And repeat that on the other side. Grab your 10-millimeter wrench and the included Allen key, and tighten it down.At this point, we can get our pod lights prepped and then installed. Grab one of your lights. We're going to turn it face down. Now you can slide your bracket in here. Now, there's two ways to have this bracket, depending on how you want your light to be offset. So just think about that as you install it. Now, we're going to be lining up the holes in the bracket with the holes in the side here. Grab one of the included Allen bolts. That'll help you line it up. Next up, a little trick I have here to install the nut is we're using a tiny screwdriver and a little bit of tape, just to be able to hold it in place as we're looking for that opening right there. Now we can hold it in place as we thread in the bolt. Once it's started, we can remove our tape, because it will seat itself. We just want to start to tighten it down, but don't tighten it all the way, because we have to do the same thing for the other side. We're lining up our bolt on the other side, just repeating the same process, leaving enough room to slide the nut in place. I'm just using the screwdriver with the tape to get it started, and remove it once it's started.Once both bolts are installed, grab the included Allen key and tighten them down. Once you finish your one pod light, repeat that process with the second one. Make sure the bracket is facing in the same way as you installed the other one. Now we can install our pod light. We're going to line it up with the bracket on your bumper. Then you're going to take the included hardware, the included hex bolt, and slide it through. There are two grooves on the bracket for your light that should hold it in place. Now, on the other side, I'm installing the hardware that it came with, but I'm also including a washer along with the lock washer. It's just always good practice to use both. If you'd like to just use what's included, that's fine as well.Thread your nut on the top. Line it up to exactly where you want it to sit. Keep in mind, you can always adjust this later on. And grab a 13-millimeter wrench to tighten it down. Repeat that on the other side. And again, I'm adding this washer to help it hold it in place better, rather than just using a lock washer. So, that's a nice optional add-on if you'd like. Line it up to about where you'd like it to sit, grab your 13-millimeter wrench, and tighten it down. All right. Now that we have our factory bumper uninstalled from our truck, we can check it out side by side with our new one here. Now, as you can see, this one is quite a bit smaller than your factory. It's going to get you more approach angle and just, in general, be up tighter to your truck than your factory bumper. In addition, it features a steel construction, with a nice black powder-coat finish, to get you that aftermarket look. And it also includes lighting, which is a nice add-on, and it also has some brackets to add some more lighting in the center, as well as some additional accessories. So, with that said, let's finish up our install. All right, at this point, we can line up our bumper on the truck. We're going to be lining up the holes in the bumper to the threaded holes on the end of the frame. And you may want to grab a friend to help you with this just because it's a little easier to line up. Next up, we're going to remove the long bolt holding on your tow hook, so that we can insert a new bolt there, as well as a bracket to your bumper. Grab your 18-millimeter socket and an 18-millimeter wrench for the other side, go ahead and get it removed.Next up, line up the bracket to your frame. We're on the passenger side, so this will have a "P." Go ahead and slide the bolt all the way through. And we have a washer on this side as well. And we're installing a washer, lock washer, and nut on the opposite side. And from the bracket to the bumper, we're going to install the smaller hex hardware with a washer on each side, as well as a lock washer and nut. Repeat that on the other side. Then, with a 16-millimeter socket and a 16-millimeter wrench, go ahead and tighten it down. Now, with an 18-millimeter socket and an 18-millimeter wrench, tighten down your long bolts. Now you can tighten down your bumper bolts. These are the factory bolts, and we're going to use a 15-millimeter ratcheting wrench. Now, alternatively, you can remove the tow hook to get better access on there, but this wrench works as well. Repeat that on the other side.At this point, we can hook up our wiring harness to the battery. We have a 10-millimeter socket here and a ratchet. We're going to remove the small nut on the battery so we can slide the eyelet over. Once the eyelet is slid over top, go ahead and take your 10-millimeter socket to tighten it down. Using your 10-millimeter socket, remove the nut on the negative terminal of the battery. Slide the negative eyelet over the negative terminal of the battery, and replace the nut. Grab your 10-millimeter socket and tighten it down. Now we can attach this relay. This can go anywhere you like, as long as it's not pulling tension on the wiring. You can put a screw through there, or we're just going to zip tie it in place for now, just as long as it's not moving anywhere near anything hot or sharp. Now we have to route this wire for your switch in through the engine bay into the cab. Now, you can go wherever you like. We're going to go through an opening near the fender area. Again, you can route this however you like, as long as it ends up inside your driver compartment. Pull your wire out from underneath the dash area, so you can plug in the switch. Make sure it's tucked back under the dash and out of the way. We're going to route our cable. Now we can route the button. We're going to stick this to the dash. Now, you can go wherever you like with this. There is adhesive on the back. We're going to stick it right about here, and then make sure to tuck up your cable. Now we're going to route the ends that plug into our pod lights through the rad support area and down to our bumper.Pull your wiring down to your bumper. Grab one connector for each side, and plug them into your pod light. Make sure you tuck up your wiring and secure it with a zip tie. Repeat that on the other side. At this point, we can reinstall our grille, line it up, and press it into place. Now you can reinstall the 10-millimeter factory hardware in the top of your grille. Grab a 10-millimeter socket and tighten it down. Repeat that with the rest of your bolts. Reinstall the factory rad support cover, and reinstall all the factory pop clips as well. All right, so I did want to point out that with this high-clearance bumper installed, the wheel well liners do hang down quite a bit. Now, if you do want to trim your wheel well liners, you can use a razor knife or another cutting tool, and I would use your bumper as a guide. Go along the bottom of the bumper here, follow the frame, and cut along that path to trim off the excess. Now, we're not going to be cutting these on our truck today, but I wanted to point this out, so you guys can do it on yours. All right. So, that is going to do it for the review and install of this bumper. And remember, for all things Silverado, keep it at americantrucks.com.
