Simple installation for anyone.
So if you own an '09 to '14 SuperCab or SuperCrew and you're looking for arguably the most affordable and the most well-built side steps in order to make getting in and out of the cab a little bit easier but you also want plenty of protection for the rocker panel area, you should be checking out the HD Rocker Steps from Barricade. I say that for a few reasons. At around the $300 price point, this will be the most affordable step as far as an actual armor-like design goes. Some of the steps around this price point or the ones that are more affordable are not gonna feature the kind of heavy-duty construction that these steps have. And some of the examples include the fact that the brackets are actually a quarter-inch thick plate steel, which are actually some of the thickest and the most rugged brackets that I've seen on any side steps. So it's safe to say these things can take some real abuse as far as light strikes and direct hits go. To top it off, this is actually a welded one-piece tubular and plate steel construction. You are getting stainless steel underneath and you have a really nice black powder coat finish on top. The other reason I would pick these for some serious protection is the actual placement of the step itself. If you've seen on the category page, a lot of the steps drop down pretty low or they come out from the truck pretty far. And while it's convenient for getting in and out of the cab, that's not gonna provide as much protection as something like this will. I say that because these are actually raised up and they're tucked in a lot more towards the door and the rocker panel area so they will provide better protection than some of the other steps on the product page, especially around this price point. Now even though these steps are big and bad, installing them is very easy. You literally only need two tools, and it shouldn't take you more than an hour to get them installed. So for that reason, I'm still gonna give the install a very simple one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter. They're a little bit heavy so you might wanna have a friend with you. But besides that, it's definitely something that you can get done at home. To install your new steps, you'll need a 13-millimeter wrench, as well as a standard drive ratchet, and a 13-millimeter socket. Optional tools include an impact gun.All right. So before you grab your hand tools and actually throw your steps in place, you actually gotta put these speed clips in some of the holes in the rocker panel, that way we can get some threads in there for the longer bolts provided in the kit so I'll show you where those go. All right. So now that we got those speed clips in place, you can actually throw the steps in place. Obviously, they're a little heavy so it's helpful to have a friend with you. We're doing this on our lift in the air just so we can give you guys a better picture of where the stuff is supposed to go. But you can also use a floor jack, that might help you a little bit as well.At any rate, once you've got these in place, you're gonna grab the longer bolts in the kit with the appropriate flat washers and crush washers and you're gonna bolt down the brackets in the top where we just put those speed clips in place. All right. So again, we're using these longer bolts in the kit with one crush washer and flat washer and you'll need a 13-millimeter socket to tighten these down. All right. With those two bolts in the top portion of the bracket, you wanna grab these shorter bolts in the kit. And you'll need two flat washers, one on either side of the pinch seam. You'll also need a crush washer for that nut on top and you'll need a 13-millimeter socket and wrench to tighten these down. All right. Once you've got that first bracket tackled, it's the same process for the other two. So once you've got all those bolts and nuts tightened down, that'll wrap up the install, pretty straightforward like I mentioned. And that also wraps up my review of Barricade's HD Rocker Steps fitting your '09 to '14 SuperCab or SuperCrew F-150. I'm Travis. Thanks for watching.
