      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com and today we're taking a closer look at and installing the Smoked Black LED Tail Lights available for the '07 to '13 Silverado 1500. You should be checking out these tail lights if you're looking to ditch that factory, more traditional styling to the rear end of your Silverado, to pick one up that is not only gonna be a lot more modern but also have a brighter LED technology that also offers a stealthy, smoked and black housing. The smoked and black are the really big key things here, guys. You should be checking this out if you like that dark interior housing that isn't bright red, isn't clear, isn't chrome but is more stealthy. The smoked lens is replacing that clear polycarbonate lens with something that isn't tinted but has that darkened approach to the actual exterior lens. That again is just gonna give you more of an aggressive look at the rear. Now if you're not interested in the smoked lens but you want a clear lens, there's also a clear option out there in the category for you. But, you know, it's all personal preference. The interior design here is obviously very modernized. There are eight LEDs in two individual strips. That's gonna give you your brake light, that's gonna give you your running light and it's also gonna act as a turn signal. Underneath you'll have your reverse light which we don't have on right now but your reverse light is just retaining that factory bulb. You also have reflectors in the middle and accent LEDs on the sides here that are in red. So overall, complete overhaul of the design. Very modern, very new. So if you're looking for that kinda styling, this is a great way to go and an affordable one at that. It's coming in just under the $300 mark for the pair which is just a really good upgrade for anyone looking to switch it up.Now the install of course gets one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. There is not any splicing, there's no cutting. It is a direct plug and play which is a huge upgrade. You don't have to worry about cutting any wires or making any permanent modifications. You're gonna pop out your factory tail lights using a Philips head screwdriver and you're just gonna pop out some bulbs and plug in the new harness. It's as simple as that. I'm gonna take you through every step of the process. It's gonna take you about half hour, maybe an hour from start to finish. I doubt it'll take an hour. What do you say we get started? The tools used in this install include a Philips head and a flathead screwdriver.Well, guys, the first step here of course is to drop your tailgate. You're gonna grab a Philips head screwdriver to remove the two Philips head screws holding on your factory tail light. It is really that simple. So what we're gonna do is loosen up the top one and the bottom one, pull the tail light out of the housing, disconnect the bulbs and we'll be able to go from there. You wanna make sure you're holding on to these factory screws. Gonna reuse those later. All right. From here you're just really gonna pull straight back. There are two retainer pins that kinda just sit in there to guide it in. So they'll come straight out. And then from here you're gonna twist and disconnect the bulbs. From here we can set our factory tail light housing aside. All right, so I just wanna quickly take you guys through a comparison of your new tail light and your factory one. As you can see, there are quite a few differences. As a matter of fact, the entire design has been completely changed with the exception of the construction of the materials themselves. So speaking of construction, you're gonna get, you know, the same quality lens, polycarbonate lens, the same kind of housing, more of an ABS plastic. So none of the quality is lost but the interior design is gonna be very different. Looking at the factory one, it's pretty traditional. It's very bright, reflective red with a clear lens on the outside. Now unlike your factory tail light, you can see that your new tail light has a smoked lens with a black interior. Again, like I said earlier, that smoked lens is just darkening that exterior look to give you a more aggressive finish. But even if it was smoked, there's a lot of LED technology in here that is super bright so you'd still get the full effect. You have 16 individual LED lights, 8 on top, 8 on the bottom that'll activate with your tail lights, your running lights and of course, your brake lights. Now you're also gonna get your reverse light down at the bottom and accent lights on the side as well as reflectors throughout. So really a good, modernized upgrade but what's cool about it is the LED technology aside from the factory halogen bulbs. That LED is gonna be, like I said, a lot brighter. It's gonna be a lot more in your face which makes your vehicle a lot safer and easier to see.Now I wanna show you guys how this gets installed. Keep in mind because it is LED we're using a little bit of a different wiring system but still no splicing required. It's gonna be straight plug and play. You're gonna use one of the tail light bulbs. One. You're gonna take this bulb out of the socket and use that factory harness to plug this guy in. The reverse light will get replaced into this open slot. So we're just gonna peel that white piece of paper off. And then that's gonna leave you with a third bulb, your third socket. They give you a cap included in the kit taped to the side so you can just cap that off. It's not gonna be used. I'll explain that more in a little bit. So what we're gonna do now is just start setting this into place. When it comes to actually disconnecting your factory bulbs and using your LEDs here, you wanna make sure you're using the right section. This is exactly how the wiring is laid out and the bulbs are laid out on your factory tail lights. So really you're just gonna pull straight back to disconnect those guys. Just be gentle. You wanna pull it right at the base and disconnect. There's a cap included in the kit. You're not gonna use it. So you wanna cap it just to make sure, you know, the elements aren't getting to it and it's not getting dirt and dust in there. So really, you're just gonna twist this guy into place. Twist it in. And it locks in there. Now it can be a little loose and it can get loose over time. You might wanna throw maybe some gaff tape or some kind of tape on it or adhere it to it if you don't think that you're gonna revert back to stock. I think that's a good idea just in case this guy falls off. It can be pretty loose and with the car moving, it might vibrate and fall out. So I'd recommend that. From here you can insert your reverse light into the bottom of your new tail light and then plug your LED into the other one.So now what you wanna do is take the LED and we're gonna plug it right in. Now you wanna make sure you're taking a look at how this is gonna be oriented. So you see black wires on the top here and green on the bottom. Just line up the black wires on your LED to match up to that side. Plug our guy right back in. Take your reverse light and it's gonna twist into that new housing. Line it up, twist it in. You can tuck in that excess one that we capped off there and we're gonna insert our tail light. You can see our factory tail light left behind these clips. We have to get those out to make room for our new clips. What we're gonna do is just pull back on this guy and set it aside. From here you could take your tail light and insert it into place. Once you have that lined up, press it in. All right, so now that you have this in place, grab those factory Philips heads and you're just gonna screw them into place. All right, you can just tighten this guy down. Do the same thing for the bottom. Perfect. Now you can test out your lights and repeat for the other side.Well, guys, that's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Smoked Black LED Tail Lights available for the '07 to '13 Silverado 1500. Now if you wanna pick this up for yourself, you can do so right here at americantrucks.com.
