Hey, guys, I'm Eric with AmericanTrucks. Today, we're checking out this HD Replacement Front Bumper that fits all 2017 and later Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks. Now, this bumper and grille guard is really ideal for the truck owner who is looking for maximum protection for the front end of their truck, whether they're off-roading or running around the job site. Now, if you want that look of heavy-duty utility, I really don't think you're gonna find a tougher-looking combination bumper and grille guard than this setup right here. But I'll tell you what, it really has the rugged design and construction to back up the image. Now really the backbone of that tough design is this 4-inch diameter Schedule 40 pipe that runs down the centerline here from left to right on our bumper, and that's also supported by these one-piece uprights that's welded throughout, and then you have additional 2-inch diameter piping up through the center section and then down to 1.5-inch piping out here, protecting your headlights and your corners.Adding further protection to the front end of your truck, you have this punch plate grille up here in the center section that's gonna protect your radiator from any flying debris, bugs, insects, rocks, you name it. It's gonna be protected up here in this section as well. Plus you also have this 1/8-inch thick steel plate in the diamond plate pattern that's quite tough-looking. That's also welded throughout, and this is all one solid piece that comes straight to you through delivery. Now, adding even more utility and options to this design are the fact that you have this hitch receiver on the front. So you can insert a trailer hitch if you are maneuvering trailers or other equipment around a job site or around your ranch or wherever it is you might be working. You also reuse the factory tow hooks and you have the accommodations to either reuse factory fog lighting, or you can swap out these brackets here on the end for longer 9-inch rectangular openings that mount in right here if you wanna put in LED light bars. Now this bumper is finished in a two-stage black powder coat that's gonna protect it for many years to come against weathering and corrosion. And, in fact, the manufacturer backs this bumper with a two-year limited warranty. Now with all that design feature, rugged durability, and tough looks, the price on this right now is coming in right around $1,600. That's fairly competitive out there compared to other grille guard and bumper setups like this, where you get all this utility and styling wrapped in one nice package. Now, as far as the installation go, guys, I'm giving it a very solid two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. Give yourself at least two hours to get this job done. And I'll tell you what, the challenges behind this installation are not the mechanical side of it. This bumper actually bolts up nice and cleanly with the included brackets that come with this kit to your truck. So mechanically speaking, it's not challenging. What is a challenge with this bumper is that this is one piece making it very heavy. And when you lift it into place, you don't have anything necessarily to rest it on because the bracketry is vertical, so you have to line it up to get bolts started through the brackets. You don't have anything to rest it on. So you're gonna have to find a solution to get it up into place. We're gonna use an engine hoist as you'll see here in a minute to get it lifted. But if you have one or two-floor jacks or a couple of beefy friends that can help you lift it into place, you can do that. You'd be very hard-pressed to do this job by yourself in a safe manner. So really the weight is what the challenge is behind this installation. So let's take a look at the tools we're gonna need and move forward with the installation. All right, guys, tools we're using for this install are an electric impact wrench, a swivel socket, 8, 15, and a pair of 18-millimeter sockets, a hand socket wrench, and an 18-millimeter wrench. All right, guys, now right before we get into the installation here, just a couple things I wanna reiterate. Make sure you have the proper equipment to adequately support this bumper as we start undoing the bolts that support it. These bolts here and here on either side of both tow hooks are actually bolts. They might look like nuts, but they're actually bolts. So once those are removed, there is nothing supporting this bumper to the frame. It's not resting on top of like a lip, or a shelf, or anything like that. So you wanna make sure that you have also the help of at least one other person who can maybe hold this bumper as you're undoing these bolts. They will be partially supported by the tow hooks here because the tow hooks are attached directly to your frame rails. But I wouldn't rely on that solely to hold the bumper up because it might also wanna come forward as well.So make sure you have some help and maybe a floor jack or some jack stands or some sturdy wood boxes or something like that, that you can stack up underneath this to support this just as a safety note. So let's go ahead, we're gonna start with the air dam. All right, guys, first off, we're gonna start here on the passenger side. You have this bolt up top here and all the other ones are on the underside until we get to the other end where there's another one on top just like this one, and they should all be 8-millimeter. All right, guys, now we're switching to the underside here. You might wanna use a swivel socket if you're using an electric tool like I am. It's a little tight on the edge here because of the curve of the air dam. Now I'm gonna leave this one in a couple of threads just to support the air dam so it's not flopping down on me as we're undoing the rest of these. And again, I'm gonna leave that one a couple of threads on as well. All right, guys, now I just have the two bolts left that are finger-tight. I'm just gonna undo those. All right, guys, I'm just gonna do these last bolts here that I have finger-tight. All right, guys, now on both ends of the bumper, we're gonna take out these two bolts that attach to this bracket. It's kind of a support bracket for the end of your bumper to the frame of your truck. And you're gonna need a 15-millimeter socket to get these out. And I'm also using a swivel because of the bracket up here. I'm gonna do the same thing over on the passenger side. All right guys, now you wouldn't necessarily need to take the air dam off if you have multiple helpers who could hold the bumper while you remove the bolts, but we're showing it to you. The manufacturer recommends taking the air dam off your bumper to prevent any damage to it. It's plastic, it's susceptible to being cracked or otherwise broken as you're working with it here. And I have a floor jack with a woodblock supporting the center of the bumper here, as I'm kind of demonstrating this to you by myself. And so we're gonna go after these bolts here, you might have plastic cover pieces covering the bolt heads. Our truck does not, so I can't show you how to remove those, but they should just pop right out. So you're gonna need an 18-millimeter socket to get these bolts out.And with the last one on this side, I'm gonna be careful to bring this one out slowly and just to see what my bumper wants to do just to be safe. I rethreaded a bolt back down to the bottom there because there's a nut plate behind here that is just spinning as I work the top bolt. So if you thread that bolt back in there, that'll keep it from spinning in the back. Now we're gonna loosen the top one a little bit more. All right. Now we have our bumper adequately supported. We're gonna move to the other side. All right, guys, now I have a friend here who's just kind of studying the other side of the bumper here. We're gonna remove these bolts. I recommend taking the top one out. Like I said before, that'll prevent it from spinning around the nut plate on the backside. Now with those bolts removed, you should be able to just lift the bumper away. All right, guys, next up, we are going to remove the tow hook here, as well as the frame extension down below here. Four bolts and then two nuts and two nuts on a bolt plate on each side for these. And it's an 18-millimeter socket you're gonna need for all of it.All right, guys, now that we have all of our factory hardware and the bumper removed from the truck, we're gonna start with some of the installation process here. Now, what we need to do is we need to mount up these mounting plates that come with the kit and they're side-specific. And they're stamped with the letter D or the letter P, and I'm on the passenger side here, so there's a P stamped on the inside. And it's just so you know how it's oriented. It's gonna go on top like this and this upright portion should be on the outside of the frame rail. We're gonna use the hardware supplied in the kit to mount this on and I'll show you how to do that here in just a second. Then, of course, we're gonna repeat it on the driver's side. It's gonna be a mirror image, but the procedure with the hardware is all gonna be the same. So go ahead and grab your passenger side bracket, set it up top. Now we're gonna use these bolt plates, and then grab a washer, lock washer, a flat washer, and a nut. And grab another bolt plate. And we're not gonna tighten them up at this time. We're gonna leave a little bit loose because you can adjust these a little bit, both up and down and in and out. Next, we're gonna grab four more bolts, some washers, and nuts and we're gonna mount them up here in these four holes. All right. Now grab a flat washer for each bolt, and we're gonna drop the bolts down so they're pointing downward. And go ahead and repeat this on the driver side. All right. And we're just gonna repeat this on the driver side here. All right, guys, now we have our factory bumper off and we set up our new HD replacement front bumper for a quick side-by-side comparison. And obviously, the differences are obvious and they are huge. This front end is one solid piece welded together. And really the backbone of it is this Schedule 40 piping, runs right down the center from left to right. And we measured it here, it's a 4-inch diameter tube. That's really the backbone of this whole replacement bumper. And then you have 2.5-inch diameter tubing below that on the bottom. And then all these uprights up here, we're talking 2-inch tubing here and inch and a half tubing here. Very sturdy. And it's all welded to these one-piece uprights on both sides. This is one piece of steel here and it's all welded together. And then out here where you have the corner and headlight protection with this part of the grille guard, there's also a welded piece right here that's reinforcing the outer edges here. So even if you kind of bump into something, gonna give it a little bit more reinforcement there and a whole lot of front-end protection for your truck. On top of that, you get a lot of extra utility with this bumper as well. You have the receiver hitch right there that you can put a hitch in if you wanna hook up a trailer to back it up. I know a lot of times if you're using your truck as a work truck around a ranch or a worksite, that can really come in handy. We'll also be able to fully accommodate active cruise control or fog lights with the openings here in this bumper. We're gonna point those out to you. We don't have any fog lights to transfer over from our truck, but we'll show you the bracketry that comes with it and how you can do that. We're also gonna reuse our factory tow hooks as well, which is a nice feature with this bumper. So it's one solid piece. It's gonna be a lot of effort to get it mounted in place, and we're gonna show you the way we're gonna do it. But if you have a couple of friends here that had their Wheaties for breakfast this morning, you should be able to get this onto your truck with some help. All right, guys, now we're gonna transfer over the tow hooks that came with our truck and we're also gonna reuse the factory hardware. And basically, you're gonna be turning them upside down from the orientation that they were in when they were on the truck originally. And they'll go underneath these brackets right here and we'll cinch them down with the factory bolts. All right. Now, grab one of the tow hooks. The side with the nuts welded onto goes on the bottom, slide it underneath. And then use an 18-millimeter socket to tighten them up.All right, guys, something I wanted to show you before we mount our bumper onto the truck is that you have a couple of different options here. If you have cube or squared-off fog lights, like the factory fog lights that you wanna switch over, we have that bracketry already mounted on this bumper. And that simply comes out with two bolts per side, and then can remove the bracket that's on there right now and replace it with this one if you're gonna put in an LED light bar. It mounts the same into that space there, it's just got a different cutout for the different design of the fog light. All right, guys, now before we bring our bumper up here, I took a measurement and from the inside of the brackets on the bumper to inside is 40 inches. So you wanna make a measurement from the outside of this bracket to the outside of the other bracket and make sure that that is 40 inches or slightly less so that you have enough room to get the bumper up and on. The brackets that are on the bumper are gonna go on the outsides of these brackets. So we're gonna have enough room there. I'm gonna go ahead and tighten up these bolts up top here. I'm gonna leave the ones down here on the side loose because if we tighten those up, it might cause the brackets here to kind of do this, and we don't want that before we get the bumper up. Not to mention, I think we'll have no problem accessing these nuts from down below once the bumper's up here. So again, you're gonna need an 18-millimeter tool on both sides. And then do that on the other side. All right, guys, now as you can tell, obviously, we are using an engine hoist here and we already have the bumper lined up to the truck. And that's really a testament to just how heavy-duty this bumper is. It is heavy. And if you have several friends who can help hold it up in place while you get underneath and start some bolts, that's fine. But just be advised that if this drops or falls down, you do not wanna be underneath it. It's a very heavy bumper. So I don't wanna belabor point, but I do want you guys to be safe out there if you're trying to install this at home. Make sure you have adequate help. As you can see, we're using a ratchet strap and our engine hoist here to hold this up in place. And the tricky thing about this bumper is the brackets that are mounted to the bumper are upright vertical, and those they're gonna line up with those brackets that we've mounted on the frame rails just a moment ago. So there's really nothing for this bumper to rest on when you set it up into place. This is totally hanging in the air right now just lined up with the brackets. And we're gonna go underneath the truck here in just a second and show you how to cinch up the hardware that's provided in the kit to get this fully mounted onto the truck. All right, guys, now go ahead and take a bolt and a flat washer. Slide it in from the inside out and grab another flat washer, lock washer, and a nut. I'll start the next one down. And before we tighten these up, we're gonna go get some bolts started on the passenger side. All right, guys, over here on the passenger side, we're gonna do the same thing.I have everything finger-tight right now, so now's the time to check the alignment of the bumper and make sure that it's nice and level and how you want it to set before you go tightening these up. All right, guys, now we checked the alignment and adjusted it as we wanted to. So you can go ahead and tighten up these nuts here on the bolt plates that we inserted earlier using an 18-mill socket. All right, guys, now we're gonna tighten up these bolts here using an 18-millimeter wrench to secure the bolt head and an 18-millimeter socket to tighten down the nut. All right. Now we're gonna go over that and repeat on the driver side. All right, guys, so that wraps up this review and install of this HD Replacement Front Bumper, fitting all 2017 and later Ford F-250 and F-350 Super Duty trucks. And, of course, for all things Super Duty, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
