Justin: If you find yourself doing a lot of towing with your 2014 through 2018 Silverado and your truck is not currently equipped with a set of tow mirrors from the factory, well, then chances are you aren't getting the full picture of your truck and trailer setup, which can make turns and general navigation a bit tough. Now, if that is the case, then adding a premium set of tow mirrors like we have here would be a great choice while also kicking in some features like the turn signals, power-folding, and built-in heating element if your truck is equipped from the factory. Now, the mirrors themselves will be sold around that mid $500 price point, and the installation, according to the site, will get a strong 1 out of 3 wrenches on the difficulty meter and take about an hour per side to get knocked out from start to finish. But regardless, guys, hang with me for a bit, and Joe will walk you through the install later in the video. So, if you've been considering adding a set of tow mirrors to your rig, then chances are you've encountered a few different options here on the site, and as always, it really just boils down to your budget and how much you want to spend. Now, if you only tow once in a blue moon but you still want to be able to see the entire length of your truck and trailer set up, then maybe going with a slip-on option might be the smarter and definitely the more budget-friendly way to go. On the other hand, if you're towing often, it just makes sense to replace the stock mirrors with something that's going to be a little better suited for towing, such as the options we're talking about here today. But with that said, what do you say we break these things down a little bit further? And on the surface, there is a few things I really dig about these options. First and foremost, they telescope or extend, and that's pretty much par for the course when talking tow mirrors. But I like it because when you're not towing, you can slide them in like we got here today, but then when we have to tow something or pull a trailer, simply yank them out and go full-on tow rig. Now, as far as exact dimensions are concerned, you're looking at 22 inches fully extended and about 19 inches right now retracted while also being able to fold the mirrors in manually as well. Now, speaking of those mirrors, they are power-operated just like your factory mirrors, and they do also have the built-in heating element to help with the frost in the mirrors themselves on those colder mornings. Now, the cherry on top will no doubt be the smoked LED turn signals, which are going to shine nice and bright, thanks to the modern LED and electronics. Now, I do want to point out, and this is very important, that, again, the heated functionality, turn signals, temperature sensor, and any additional lighting, including backup lighting functionality, is only going to work if your truck is equipped with those options from the factory. Otherwise, you're going to have to do some pretty heavy-duty custom wiring to get everything working. So, just keep that in mind. These mirrors are not going to add that functionality by themselves unless you get custom. So, if you have those features, expect to keep them with the addition of these particular mirrors. Now, as you can see, these particular options are finished off in a factory-like black textured ABS plastic but can also be found here on the site with a set of chrome skull caps as well for Silverado owners who might be trying to keep things consistent on their chrome package truck. But make no mistake about it, guys. These are going to be an absolute premium tow mirror option here on the site, and that is reflected by that higher price point, and that's because they are loaded with those features if your truck is equipped. Again, that's very important. However, if your truck is not equipped, it really doesn't make sense to go with the turn signals, the backup lights, all that stuff. You could keep things simple. Go with a barebone set of telescoping mirrors and subsequently keep that price point way down. However, again, if you do have all those options, if you want to keep them, I don't blame you, then spending a couple of extra bucks on these guys really is the right way to go. But now, as promised, we do want to segue into the installation of the mirrors themselves here, guys. And I do want to point out, yes, there is no cutting or drilling needed to get the physical mirrors in place. There might be some of that light wiring involved like we discussed earlier. And to clarify all that for you right now, here is Joe with your detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown.Joe: Tools used for this install are a small impact or ratchet, 10-millimeter socket, 7-millimeter socket, a small extension, 2 10-millimeter wrenches, an interior trim panel tool, and a small flathead screwdriver. So, for this install, we're going to have to pull our door panels off in order to get to the hardware that holds the mirror into place. It's a pretty simple process. I'm going to walk you through it, so let's get started. So, the first thing I'm going to do is I'm going to use a small flathead screwdriver to remove this little cover piece that's inside the door pull, and I'll just very carefully pry on the plastic not to damage it, and I'll pull that right out. And that reveals these two screws here in the door panel that I'm going to have to pull off in order to get this off. Now, I'll just use my 7-millimeter socket to remove those two screws. So, now I'm going to use my plastic trim tool to remove this cover panel. That's going to reveal a couple of more screws that I need to remove. So, really deep here. There is a 7-millimeter screw that's going to be very hard to see, so I'm just going to take a 7-mil socket and pull that out. Next, there's a little cover panel here on the door handle itself. I'm just going to pop that off with my plastic trim tool to reveal another 7-millimeter screw. With the cover off, I can just pull the 7-mil screw out and move on to the next one.Next, I need to remove the two 7-millimeter screws that are down here at the bottom of the door panel. So, this upper trim piece here is actually stopping me from pulling the door panel out, so I'm just going to pop this off. So, now that I have the door panel popped off, you can see there's a large plug that holds the entire thing still on. So, I'm just going to go ahead and disconnect the large plug, and that just comes right out. So, now that you have your door panel and your trim removed from the door, you have full access to the three nuts and the electrical connection for your side view mirror. So, I'm going to use a 10-millimeter socket to remove these 3 nuts, unplug the connector, and pull the mirror out. So, before we can install this mirror onto our truck, I have to point out that on the back of our new mirror, there are four mounting studs. Now, our truck is only equipped with three mounting holes from the corners here, so what I'm going to do to physically mount this onto the truck is actually remove this stud here in the middle. Now, you can either use a 4-millimeter socket and put it on the end of the stud and unscrew it, or if you don't have a 4-millimeter socket, which is pretty common because they're not found in most mechanics' tool sets, I'm going to take 2 M6 by 1 nuts, and I'm going to screw them onto the stud, and then I'll lock them together using 2 10-millimeter wrenches, creating a jam nut so that I can unscrew the stud from the back of the mirror and install it onto our truck. Now, we're ready to install this onto our truck, so I'm going to feed the wire harness through the hole in the door. I'll line up the studs with the holes that are there, and I'll secure it down with the hardware. And I'll just take my 10-mil socket and tighten up my nuts, and then I can make my connection down here on the door. So, one very important thing to point out when installing these mirrors onto your truck is that the added features and benefits of this mirror, such as the heating element, the turn signal, the ambient air temperature sensor, and the power-fold features are only going to work if your vehicle was originally equipped to do so. Now, the kit does provide you with an extra wiring harness if you should choose to wire in a backup light or your turn signal, but that will require you to find and tap into the power and ground sources for those circuits. If your vehicle does come equipped with those features from the factory, then this is going to be a 100% completely plug-and-play install. Our vehicle is not equipped with all of those features. However, for the demonstration purposes of this video, we're going to install it as if it is a plug-and-play part, just to show you how it's supposed to fit and what it's going to look like on your vehicle. So, now that we have our mirror installed onto our truck, I can go ahead and re-install my window trim and my door panel. Make sure you don't forget to plug back in the door wiring harness, and lock down the tabs, and reconnect your door handle pull. Now, I have my door panel clipped back into place. I'm going to start reinstalling the screws. Now, once again, I mentioned that this one here in the door handle is very difficult to see. I'm just going to use my 7-mil and a little bit of an extension to get this into place. Finally, I can re-install my cover panels and wrap this install up.And that's going to wrap up this review and install of the powered, heated, automatic folding towing mirrors with smoked LED turn signals in black, fitting your 2014 to 2018 Silverado or Sierra 1500.
