Hey, what's going on, guys? Adam here with AmericanMuscle.com. Today I'm bringing you a detailed review of the Roush Cold Air Intake System fitting all 2012 to 2014 3.5-liter EcoBoost F150s. So in this video I'll be going over the functionality and expectations out of the Roush Cold Air Intake System, as well as its materials and construction. I'll top everything off with the installation, which I'll tell you upfront, will be a very simple job for any novice to take care of. We'll be getting a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, so let's jump right into it.
The Roush Cold Air Intake System is gonna be for all 2012 to 2014 3.5-liter EcoBoost owners out there looking to upgrade their factory air box system to an overall higher quality aftermarket option that is 50-state legal, while all reaping the benefits without picking up a custom tune. So, the first thing you'll notice with the Roush Cold Air Intake kit I have with me today is that it's not a complete kit. Some of the other options on the market will include everything you see here with the filter, the neck, and the air box, but will also include tubing all the way back to your turbo. Now, this one I have with me today from Roush offers just the essentials to give you the reaping benefits that you get out of a cold air induction system, while giving you a slight bump in power, as well as throttle response.
Now, I'll touch on that a little bit more later, but I do want to point out that this one will not require a tune, making it a hassle-free, bolt-on installation. Now, speaking of a no tune required, this utilizes what's known as a speed density system instead of a mass air flow. So, the speed density system will basically make changes to your computer on the fly, completely relieving you of the stress of picking up a new tune to make the changes necessary. This system will not only save you money, but will be a very easy direct bolt-on installation, where you could just bolt and go.
Now, with that in mind, I do want to point out that this isn't going to make the world of difference when it comes to power. You can expect single digit gains, as well as a better throttle response overall. It will improve the engine sound, which, of course, is a more attractive, more aggressive note coming from the turbo, which is always a plus. So, another thing I mentioned in the beginning of the video is that this one is going to be 50-state legal. Basically, this means if you're in an emissions restrictive state like California, this one is gonna give you the okay to pick it up, install it on your truck, and still be road legal.
Moving along to the materials and construction portion of the video, I do want to point out that this is gonna be a reusable filter directly from Roush, made of multi-layered cotton gauze, high quality materials, which means you won't have to go out and pick up a new filter every few thousand miles. This one is as easy as popping it off, cleaning it off, re-oiling it, and popping it back on and you're good to go, obviously saving you a lot of time and a lot of money.
Now, as far as the neck tubing and the air box goes, expect injection molded polyprothelene for long lasting durability. Now, as far as the pricing goes for this option here from Roush, expect to be just about 300 bucks, which falls right in the middle of the pack of the plethora of options for the 3.5-liter EcoBoost. A lot of the other options out there that are a little bit more expensive will include the complete tubing all the way back to the turbo, so it all depends on how much you want to spend and what you expect to get out of it.
Now, moving along to the installation portion of the video, like I said in the beginning, this one is gonna be easy enough for any novice to take care of. It's definitely getting a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, and about 30 minutes tops in the driveway at home, with a simple ratchet and socket set. With this option from Roush, of course, you're not gonna have to completely unbolt your factory tubing. The only thing you're gonna have to unbolt and unclamp is your factory neck, factory air box, and of course your factory filter, and completely replace it with the Roush option with the hardware included in the kit. Overall, like I said, 30 minutes tops, definitely getting a one out of three wrenches on our difficult meter.

The air filter in the Roush Cold Air Intake is made from a non-restrictive red fabric which passes air through strongly while scrubbing out particles. The use of twin layers of wire mesh inside the filter element ensures it doesn’t get warped out of shape when you wash and reuse it – since this component can be cleaned and reinstalled many times.
Lightweight but Reliable Build.
The Roush Cold Air Intake is made from tough materials that are chosen and manufactured in such a way that they’re stable and reliable over a long service life. In addition to the wire reinforced filter, this intake features a very tough polyprothelene injection-molded air dam or air shield and coupling for the intake tube. The color is black, with a lightly textured surface. The component bears the Roush name in raised lettering and is USA-made.
MAF Housing for Factory MAF.
The MAF housing built into the Roush Cold Air Intake is suitable for mounting the 85mm factory MAF. This, plus the reuse of the intake tube, enables the tune-free installation of this CAI in your truck.

This makes the part 50 state street legal, capable of being legally installed and driven on roads, streets, highways, and off-road situations throughout the United States, including the State of California.
This Roush Performance Cold Air Intake is specifically designed to fit the 2012-2014 F-150s equipped with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine. The Intake will not fit on the 2011 3.5L EcoBoost due to a MAP sensor change.
