      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys. Joe from AmericanTrucks. And today we're gonna be working with the Barricade Pioneer Aluminum Running Boards fitting all '19 and newer Crew Cab Silverado 1500s. Now, this is going to be a great option for frankly any Silverado owner out there looking to make getting in and out of their truck a little bit easier with a high-quality set of brushed aluminum running boards. So, what do we have going on with the Pioneer running boards here? Well, I already said they were aluminum but it is aircraft grade, so really high-quality stuff. It's going to be nice and durable yet lightweight. And this stuff is so durable, in fact, that Barricade even advertises these to double as some light side protection for your truck. So, the stray rock here or there, shopping cart in the parking lot, this is gonna provide another layer of protection before that stuff can get to the paint on your Silverado. Now, as far as features go, we do have this textured non-slip pad that basically runs the entire length of the running board here. We have that nice aluminum brush section in the middle right there and that's going to help add to the look just that much more. All in all, that step pad is going to give you about four and a half inches of area to plant your foot on there and it's gonna be great for any wet or muddy conditions when you're getting in and out of your truck. That's going to help ensure that you don't slip off of this thing. Now, one thing I did wanna touch on here is these step pads are going to be automotive grade injection molded plastic. Now, that's not to say they're gonna break as soon as you get in and out of your truck for the first time, but if that is going to be a holdup for you, that definitely is something to think about. So, pricing for the pair here, we're looking at right around three 325 bucks and that is not going to be bad at all. A really cost-effective price for a full set of Crew Cab side steps like this one that have that high aluminum build quality. You really are getting your money's worth with this pair. Now, before we move on to the install here, I did just wanna make a quick note about fitment. This is only intended for the fourth generation Silverado. So, if you have a Legacy model, the third gen of the Silverado, this is not going to work for you but we do have plenty of options that will. So, as far as the install goes, all of the newest Silverados have pre-threaded holes underneath of the truck, they are perfect for mounting brackets, it makes this extremely easy to deal with, no modification, no drilling, no cutting to get these installed on your truck. Exactly as you see them right here. I'm gonna give it a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. At most this should take an hour or two to get hooked up on both sides. So, without any further ado, let me show you what tools you'll need and how it's done.Tools we used for this install are going to include an impact, ratchet, trim panel removal tool, 13 and 10-millimeter sockets as well as a low profile 10-millimeter wrench. So, side step bars on a fourth gen '19 Silverado, extremely easy. All the fourth gen Silverados have pre-threaded holes all the way along the length underneath here which makes installing these mounting brackets extremely easy, right? All we're going to do is hold these up and install them with the 13-millimeter hardware included in the kit. Now, a couple of things I did wanna touch on here is our truck came with side steps from the factory. So, the threaded holes are open at this point. If your truck didn't come with those, you'll probably have some plugs in there and you can remove those with a trim panel removal tool like this one or a flat bladed screwdriver if you need to. Now, secondly, there are a lot of pre-threaded holes under here. I'm gonna tell you exactly which ones these brackets need to be installed to and which ones get skipped. And we're gonna be working from the back forward. So, I'm gonna call this position number one. That is gonna get skipped. We're gonna move on to the next set which is only a couple inches toward the front of the truck. This is gonna be position number two. We're gonna hold up our bracket and install it with the 13-millimeter hardware in the kit. And obviously, these go right into the holes. Like I said, you just wanna make sure you get the flat washer and lock washer on there first. And these holes are slotted which is going to allow you some movement like that. If you need to adjust these, you can always come back and loosen them later on. But for now, we're just gonna snug these up.So, here we are, a little bit closer to the middle with number three. This is gonna be the same exact process. I'm gonna take one of the eight mounting brackets, hold it up there, grab a 13-millimeter bolthead, lock washer, flat washer and tighten that down. So, we're gonna move right along to the position number four. Right next to it on the left there, you can see position number five with the plugs in it. You could leave those in, five is gonna get completely skipped. So, here we are at the last position, number six here. And just to be clear, I've been working from the rear of the truck forward so this position we're at right now is going to be the forward most position and it is gonna be the same exact process. 13-millimeter bolts into those threaded holes. So, now we have all of our mounting brackets installed, we're just gonna grab one of the side steps and put it up on the brackets. Now, they are different, driver and passenger side, and they do come in color-coded bags. Mine came in a clear bag for the passenger side, driver's side was in a green bag. That's an easy way to tell the two apart. If you need a little bit more than that, the instructions to go deeper. But you wanna make sure you at least have the right one. Now, we're gonna put this up here and when we do, we're going to insert some of these square-headed bolts into the channels on the back here and then we're gonna spread them along those channels so each mounting bracket has two bolts. And then once we have this all aligned, we'll come in and tighten these down with a 10-millimeter socket and 10-millimeter wrench. So, now that we have the step up there again, we can take those square headed bolts and we're just gonna feed four of those into each channel. I figure it's easiest to do this now. At least this way you're not messing around trying to get this side step up there when these are in and sliding in those channels. So, I like to do it while it's up there. If you had some masking tape, you could just tape over across here and that would hold them in the middle for you. That might be easier. But other than that, it's gonna be just that easy. Now, you can see our mounting bracket here. What I'm gonna do is lift up on the step and push those over it. I'm gonna leave one here for our mounting bracket and do the same thing for the other channel too. And leave one here for the mounting bracket. Now, we're just gonna work that all the way down. So, coming down to the next bracket, this time we're gonna pass two forward, leave a couple for our mounting bracket, and move right along. So, on to the next bracket again, we're gonna pass one bolt forward, leave one, pass one bolt forward, and leave one. Down to the last mountain bracket here, we're just gonna lift up on our step one more time and just get those last two bolts started in the bracket. So, we have all of our bolts started, we just need to get some hardware on them here and we're gonna take the smaller flat washers and lock washers and the smaller 10-millimeter nuts and get that started finger tight. So, now we're gonna start tightening our hardware down. One thing to note before this, again, these are all slotted so you wanna make sure your step is nice and aligned. Then we can come in here with the 10-millimeter socket and tighten this one down. The other one is a little bit tough to get to with the lip here. You probably guess what I'm gonna do next. I'm gonna use this small ratcheting wrench to get to that one. It's gonna be the same exact process for the other three brackets as well. So, guys, that is gonna do it for me. It's also gonna wrap things up for our Barricade Pioneer Aluminum Running Boards, fitting all '19 and newer Crew Cab Silverado 1500s. Subscribe for more videos like this one.
