Jake: Jake here for AmericanTrucks. And today I'm taking a look at the Proven Ground Low Profile Quad Fold Tonneau Cover, fitting 2014 to 2018 Silverados with the 5 foot 8 inch or 6.5-foot bed. If you're looking for a sleek and subtle way to add some additional protection and function to your Silverado, then this tonneau cover from Proven Ground is going to be for you. This is an easy bolt-on cover that's going to give you the protection you're looking for with a really sleek look. So if you're not a fan of the bulky look or usage of some other tonneau covers it's going to eliminate that entirely, making for a very sleek appearance or one where you may not even notice it at first glance.Adding a tonneau cover is a really simple way to gain some additional flexibility and storage space for your truck. Since you only get the cab as lockable storage space from the factory, adding a tonneau cover like this one to your bed is going to help you make the most of that space. However, most tonneau covers look like you've added something to your truck, meaning that you can see it a mile and a half away. So if you prefer something that's a bit more subtle, this is a great solution for you.So this is a hard folding cover with four panels, hence the name, and it mounts in such a way that it ends up being pretty much flush with the edges of your bed when it's closed. Now, as you can see on our truck here, barely any of this cover sticks up above the line of the bed. So at first glance, you may not even notice that it's there. It keeps the exterior of the truck looking really clean and it keeps what you put in the bed protected. Now, again, this is a hard folding cover, so you're going to get some serious protection here as well.As the name would indicate, this is a four-panel design, so it's got this nice textured black finish over top. It's going to offer quite a bit of protection from both the elements and prying eyes. This is also going to lock with your tailgate, so it reduces the risk of anybody just grabbing things out of your bed. It gives you a little bit of additional peace of mind and some security. Now, you also get a couple of stands in here as well. Now, since this is only a couple of panels, those stands are going to come in handy. It's pretty easy to fold this thing up and access the entirety of the bed. Once you have that up in place, you can go ahead and put these guys in. These are going to keep it locked right in position, so it's not going to fall over crushing whatever you got in the bed. Now, one big drawback to a hard folding tonneau cover is that it is going to block your rear window when it's folded up. However, the benefit is it doesn't impede on bed space at all. And you can pretty easily remove this should you need the full bed. So if you find yourself needing the full length of the bed only occasionally, you want some added security and enclosed storage space in the meantime, this is going to be a great option. You also can utilize different panels of this too, so if you need to fold up one or two of them, you can just pull the releases right here, you've got easy releases on each panel, and fold it up to wherever you need it. So this is going to offer you more protection than a soft cover, but it still is going to keep that slick low profile. The panels of the cover are constructed from aircraft-grade aluminum and so are the bed rails and the frame of the cover itself. The panels are finished in this matte black textured grain, almost looks a little bit like leather or vinyl, and the whole thing is also gonna be weather-resistant. Combine that with the aluminum and you've got a cover that's gonna be very durable and should provide you with excellent resistance to anything you or Mother Nature can throw at it. Plus that aluminum construction helps keep the weight down, meaning that it's gonna be easy for you to operate once it's in the bed.Pricing comes in at about $750, and that makes it one of the more affordable options for a hard folding cover. And having that typical hard cover protection with the low profile makes this a great buy from either an aesthetic or practical perspective.Installation is quite simple as well and accordingly is going to get a 1 out of 3 on our difficulty meter, and this should only take you about an hour to complete. Now all the installation hardware that you need is included in the box, all the rails, everything that you've got here, and all the weatherstripping already comes installed too.Everything is going to bolt right into place and clamp right in as well, so there's no need to modify anything on your truck either, and that means that this is going to be an easy item to remove later on should you need to do that either to haul stuff or to sell the truck. So with that, why don't we head out to the install bay now and we'll show you the process?Man: Tools required for this install include the three included Allen wrenches. What's up, guys? Today we're installing a tonneau cover on our Silverado, so let's get started. So our first step is to assemble our side rails. We have our brackets that we're gonna be using to bolt it down to the bed. Also, we have a bracket that's gonna bolt these two halves together. So we'll get these slid in where they need to be, put our Allen bolts in to tighten everything down, and then we can get this onto the truck. So we have two different brackets that we're gonna be sliding into our rails. We have this one that's gonna go towards the back, so we'll slide that into the longer rail first. And then we have our long L-shaped bracket that's gonna go in second. And then another one of those L-shaped brackets, that's gonna go into the shorter rail. And now with those in place, we can take our threaded plate. We're gonna slide that in one side and connect our rails. You're gonna want that nice and centered up.And then you can take this bracket that's got the four holes on top and the two threaded holes on the bottom. The bottom part is gonna go down. We'll slide that right on top, and then we can thread in our four Allen head bolts. Now we can just pinch our rail together and tighten those down. And then we'll take our smaller wing nuts included in the kit and thread those into our bottom holes until they bottom out. And then we can do the same thing for our other rail and get this on the truck. So now we can install our side rail. So we'll lay that on the side of our bed, and then we're gonna get our bracket with the threaded hole. That's gonna go up under the bed. And then we'll take our Allen head bolt and thread that in. And then we can grab the included Allen wrench and tighten that down. And then we can do that same thing for our next one. We're just gonna be spacing out our brackets evenly. And then we can take our bolts and thread those in. And now we can go back with our Allen wrench and fully tighten down our bolts. Now, coming to the rear, we have this plate with two threaded holes. We're gonna be dropping this in here through our bed rail and popping this grommet out. And then we'll slide our last bracket over that hole. We'll slide this in and thread our Allen head bolt into that. Now we can repeat that same mounting process on the other side.Next, we can install our weatherstrip across the bulkhead. Now you might have to cut this down to size as this tonneau cover does fit multiple vehicles. We'll peel that double-sided tape back and stick this down. Next, we can install our drain tubes. Now, we have this fitting right here at the bulkhead of our rail. We're gonna slide this on here. Now, the manufacturer wants you to cut a slit in your grommets to run this hose to the other side of the bulkhead. We're not gonna be doing that since we're just doing this for demonstration purposes, but you would just cut your slit in there, hook it up there, and run it out of your grommet. So now I've got our tonneau cover lifted onto our rails. The next thing we need to do is lift up our back flap. We have this stud that's gonna be going through our bracket right in front of our bulkhead. So I'm gonna grab myself a buddy. We're gonna do both sides at the same time, and then we can get our wing nuts on the bottom. So now I've got my buddy on the other side. We're ready to lift this up and get our stud into the hole. Now we can come underneath our tonneau cover to our stud. We have our nut with the metal threads and then our wing nut. And then we can do that same thing on the other side.Next, we can install our buckles. We have three drilled holes on each side. So we'll just line these up with our Allen head screws, and then we can tighten those down. And then we have our rubber piece that we're gonna peel back our double-sided tape on. And then we'll line that up and stick it down. And then we'll do that same thing on the other side. Now, lastly, we can install our props. The ball end is gonna go on the top here. We'll just press that in. And then we can slide the other end into here and twist our wing nut to tighten it down. And then we'll do that same thing on the other side.So that'll wrap up this review and install of the Proven Ground Low Profile Quad Fold Tonneau Cover for your 2014 to '18 Silverado 1500 with 5.8-foot and 6.5-foot box. Thank you for watching. And for all things Silverado, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
