      Jake: Jake here for American Trucks, and today, I'm taking a look at the Proven Ground C&L Series Super Sport HD Cross-Drilled and Slotted Rear Brake Rotors. Fitment for these will include all 2012 to 2014 F-150s and also 2015 to 2017 F-150s with the manual parking brake. So, these are not gonna fit 2015 to 2017 trucks that are equipped with the electronic parking brake. Now, brakes are some of the most important components of your vehicle and they're often overlooked. So, if you are just in need of a new set, or if you're just looking to upgrade your F-150's braking performance without spending a fortune, these are worth some serious consideration. Whether you're daily driving, hitting the trail, or towing, these are a definitive upgrade over your stock rotors for one of the lowest prices in the category.Traditionally, manufacturers will equip their trucks with solid discs from the factory, and while those work fine for most applications, there's definitely room for improvement. One of the best ways to do that is by upgrading to a set of drilled and slotted rotors like these because these are gonna be extremely helpful in dissipating heat. And the heat is the enemy of braking performance and that's where these channels and the holes in the faces of the rotors come in. As you apply the brakes, friction and heat build-up on the pads and the faces of the rotors, and these channels help funnel away that heat from the pads. The holes also allow another escape route where the heat can dissipate and get funneled out of the veins in the central channels of the rotors.Now all those hot gases have plenty of places by which to escape. Less heat means less chance of fading and better overall braking response. And if you've ever had brakes get hot on you, you know how scary of an experience that can be, so doing everything you can to avoid it is worth it. And that's especially important if you're towing or hauling with your truck because you're putting a lot more wear and tear and a lot more heat coming through those brakes. So, all that to say, you're gonna get much better heat dissipation with these, which means that you're breaking performance will be very much improved over stock.In addition to that, the rotors are constructed from CNC-machined premium cast iron, so very similar in construction to your standard OEM brakes. However, these are finished in a bright zinc electroplating to help prevent against rust and corrosion for a long time to come, but the cast iron construction here means that the price is still gonna stay low. Speaking of price, the set here, as you see them, is gonna come in at just about $200, making them one of the least expensive sets for rear rotors on the market for these trucks. That's especially good because they have that drilled and slotted design, so these are gonna be the least expensive option for drilled and slotted rear rotors for the F-150 as well.Now, of course, these also pair very well with the matching set of front brakes, which we also have available on our site, and I'd highly recommend picking up a set of those as well. If you're gonna swap these out too, this also is a good time to upgrade your pads because they make a big difference in your braking performance as well. Now, installation will come in at a two out of three on our difficulty meter, and you should plan on this taking you about two hours to complete. Brakes are a pretty straightforward job, just a little bit time-consuming, and you are, of course, gonna have to remove those calipers to get these installed. Regardless, this is definitely a job that you can accomplish at home. And with that, let's throw it over to the install bay so we can show you that process.Man: The tools you'll need for this project are an impact gun, an 18 millimeter socket, a 13 millimeter socket, a caliper spreader, a ball-peen hammer, a soft mallet, a clean cloth, some brake cleaner, a caliper hanging tool, and a 1/2 inch drive breaker bar. Hi, everyone. Today we're gonna be installing a new set of rotors on the rear of our F-150, but before we can do that let's get the old ones uninstalled first.The first thing we're gonna want to do is remove our caliper by undoing the bolts in the back using our 13 millimeter socket. Now, we'll remove the two bolts on the back of our caliper mounting bracket using our 18 millimeter socket. Now, we can remove the rotor, and depending on the age and the condition of your vehicle, you may have to use a little persuasion in the means of a large ball-peen hammer, and possibly some spray lube as well. So, let's take a look and see what we've got. Now, if you have to use a hammer, just be careful not to damage the threads on the studs.Now, before we start putting everything back together, now would be a good time to go ahead and inspect the rest of the system just to make sure there's no leaks or broken parts. And just basically clean it up a little bit using a little spray brake cleaner, that way, when everything goes back together, we know it's all good. Now, everything looks good on our system. So, I'm just gonna spray it with a little brake clean, clean it up a little bit, and then, we can start putting it back together.Now, the other thing that we need to do before we install the new rotor is compress the piston in the caliper because the new rotor is gonna be just a little bit wider than the one that we took off of here. So, let's go ahead and compress that piston so that we don't have any issues when we install our new rotor. Now, we can go ahead and install our new rotor, and then, attach our caliper mounting bracket again, and we'll attach this using the original hardware that we took off. Now, we can reinstall our caliper, and again, reusing the hardware that we originally took out. Now that we've got everything installed, you can go ahead and torque it down to the factory-recommended specifications, and repeat the whole process on the other side.And that wraps up our review and install of the Proven Ground C&L Series Super Sport HD Cross-Drilled and Slotted Rotors for the rear on a '12 to '14 F-150, as well as the '15 to '17 F-150s with manual parking brake.
