      Video Review & Installation

Jake: Jake here for American Trucks, and today, I'm taking a look at the Morimoto XB LED Headlights with Amber Daytime Running Lights, Black Housings, and Clear Lens, for the 2009 to 2014 Ford F-150. A new set of headlights is an easy way to upgrade the look and functionality of your truck, and this set from Morimoto brings a serious improvement in both lighting and style. These are gonna be perfect for the F-150 owner who wants all the fixings of a stylish, easy-to-install full LED package. When it comes to lighting, you really can't go wrong with anything from Morimoto. They spend a lot of time and effort on their products, and it shows in the moment that you take them out of the box. They always look and feel great. Now, these have this stealthy black housing on the inside, and even combined with that clear lens, you still get that smoked-out look. Clearly, some inspiration here was taken from later model F-150s, and even Raptors, with those large daytime running lights around the outer edges. Now, those daytime running lights are powered by OSRAM 5000k LEDs, and they cast a very bright, very clean light, to make sure your truck has this menacing look, and it can be seen easily no matter the conditions. Those are also gonna dim when you turn on the main beams, which is gonna allow the main beams to do their job as effectively as possible. That same daytime running light section also houses the sequential turn signals, right up at the top here on the light. Now, that is a separate optic, so you get a bright amber light when you hit those turn signals on, but it's not gonna take away from the other lighting that's going on here. Now, I make no secret of the fact that I'm a big fan of sequential turn signals. However, if you are not, you are able to switch them to just full on, full off very easily. But, of course, these are headlights, so we do need to talk about how they perform. You've got, the main beams here are these three projector LEDs, with the square Kuria Optic clear lens. So, not only are they super bright, but you also get a razor-sharp cut-off, and a really well-defined beam pattern, to make it super easy to see and be seen out on the road. The beam has excellent width, intensity, and most importantly, proper light distribution, which is not something you'll always find with aftermarket headlights. Now, these are gonna be significantly brighter than your stock halogen lights from this gen of F-150. These are gonna measure in, in the low beam, at 710 Lux, which is a 195% improvement versus the stock 240 Lux for the low beams. You also get a separate high beam down on the bottom here, which is a similar improvement over stock as well, on your stock lights, for a 157% improvement over stock. So, it's safe to say that these are gonna be really bright, and it's gonna make a huge difference when you get them out on the road. Now, these are also designed to integrate properly with your truck, so there is no flickering or hyper flashing to worry about, as they're designed to be full LEDs from the start, and that also means there's no incandescent bulbs in here. In the back, they also feature integrated adjusters, meaning that they are going to fully meet all DOT, SAE, and FMVSS 108 regulations, when they're properly aimed, of course, so make sure that you do that.Construction here is of the highest quality. With the high-output LEDs and the state-of-the-art OSRAM LED chips inside, these are gonna be bright, and they're gonna last a long time. Morimoto also includes diecast aluminum heat sinks inside and out, to provide more than adequate cooling for all those electronics, make sure that they're gonna function properly for a long time to come. Of course, these are also weather-sealed, to keep out moisture and dirt. Outside, you get a PPS plastic housing, which is lightweight, and stronger than some other alternatives, and of course, it's capped off with a UV-coated polycarbonate lens, so these aren't gonna fade, yellow, or crack over time, like some less-expensive alternatives on the market. Now, pricing for this set comes in at just about $1,575. And that does put them at the top end of the category for this gen F-150. However, you get what you pay for when it comes to lights, and that is certainly the case here, because the XP Series delivers. You're getting really high-quality components, significantly better lighting output, and just a generally excellent setup, that is very easy to install.Speaking of which, installation is gonna come in at a one out of three on our difficulty meter, and it should only take you about an hour to complete this job. Like I alluded to earlier, these are a total plug-and-play setup. Everything is already set to go in the back. You're just gonna unbolt your old lights, bolt these in their place, and all the connectors are ready for you to plug in to your factory harnesses. And since these are fully LED, there is no bulb swapping necessary in this process. Basically, just plug and go. And now, to show you that process, let's head over to the install bay.Man: The tools you'll need for this project are a 10-millimeter socket, a short extension, and a ratchet.Hi, everyone. Today we're installing a set of headlights on our F-150, so let's get started with the uninstall first. So, once we've got our hood open, we've got three bolts to remove. Two on the top, one on the side. So, let's use our 10-millimeter socket to remove those. Now, we can just pull our headlight straight out. And we've got three connectors on the backside. Just disconnect those, and we're done. And repeat that for the other side. Okay, before we actually install our light, there's a couple things I just wanna point out. It does have the regular factory connectors, so it'll connect right into your factory harness, but it also has an extra connector for the amp, which is connected to this harness right here, which we'll tap into the fuse box first, before we install our light. And one other thing to note, these lights have the option of either using sequential turn signals or just your standard blinking turn signals. This connector right here, with the purple and orange wire, will control that. If you have it connected, it'll be your standard blinking. If you disconnect it, it'll be the sequential blinking. So, for our purposes, we're gonna go ahead and disconnect it, so that we can have the sequential blinking lights. So, let's get started and get that harness installed first. This is the connector for the sequential turn signals. If it's connected, it'll be standard blinking. If it's unconnected, it will be sequential blinking. So, the first thing we need to do is open up our fuse box and remove the fuse that's in spot number 77. And then we'll insert our fuse tap and run our wires. And fuse number 77 is right here in the front row. It's the only 10-amp fuse in there. So, we'll remove that and install our fuse tap.All right, we're gonna go ahead and run our harness in front of the battery, underneath the core support, and then run it across in front of the radiator. Now, at this time, you're gonna wanna zip tie the harness in place, to keep it out of the way and make sure it's not running next to anything hot, or anything sharp that will catch it. Now we can go ahead and connect our wiring harness to our light, insert it into the body, insert our three bolts, and tighten it down with our 10-millimeter socket. And repeat that process on the other side. And that wraps up our review and install of the Morimoto XB LED Headlights with Amber DRL, with the Black Housing and Clear Lens, for the 2009 to 2014 F-150. Thanks for watching, and remember, for all things F-150, keep it right here at
