Justin: Hey, guys. Justin with americantrucks.com. And today we're taking a closer look at and installing the K&N Series 77 Cold Air Intake available for your 21 and newer 5-liter-powered F-150 at home. Now, you should be checking out the K&N if you're looking for a premium no-tune-required intake from one of the most recognizable names in the category to help increase both the power and sound out of your 5-liter truck. So, traditionally the Series 77 from K&N has been unique in the fact that it's gonna feature a polished or chrome finish on the tube itself. But, as you guys can see, they've updated the finish for the 21 and newer 5-liter kit to be more of a metallic gunmetal. Which, personally, I think looks pretty awesome. Now, the polished finish for some is a little too bright, a little too flashy under the hood. But at the same time, some of those aftermarket kits that just feature a black tube might be a little boring for some owners. So, with that being said, the Series 77 and its gunmetal tube, I think, is a nice middle ground for owners out there who don't want the flashy chrome but, at the same time, you wanna pop the hood and you wanna see something that stands out a little bit. And if that's the case, then this is certainly a great choice. But, power numbers aside, truck owners can also look forward to a few other little things when bolting up the Series 77 to their F-150. For starters, things like a little bit more engine noise due to the open-element or open-filter design. Also, a big fan of the air box that K&N utilizes with their kit because it's going to incorporate the bottom portion of your factory air box and all of that factory designed cold-air ducting. That's great, [inaudible 00:01:47] did an awesome job on that, so, I wouldn't wanna mess with that but you're getting the benefit of K&N's filter right in that factory-style air box and upper design. You can also look forward to things like better throttle response and even improved fuel economy. In some cases, that's been mentioned by a few of our customers in the review section. I would say most of those owners don't like hearing the added noise that you pick up from installing an intake because, honestly, when I do something like this, I just can't help but lay into it every chance I get, and thus reducing my fuel economy. But regardless, guys, if you want a full breakdown of what 5-liter F-150 owners are saying about installing the Series 77 on their truck at home, check out those customer reviews. Always a great way to get some real-world feedback from fellow F-150 owners about installing this particular mod. But, breaking down some of your individual components of the Series 77, we've already talked at length about the tube itself. It is aluminum here, guys, it has been powder coated with that gunmetal gray. You're also, of course, looking at one of K&N's signature oiled filters. Now, if you didn't know, these guys are washable, they are reusable. Just make sure to re-oil it correctly after cleaning for the best performance out of the filter itself. Now, aside from that, K&N is also going to incorporate the upper portion of that air box, which we've already talked about. It's going to sit in the bottom portion of your factory air box, maintain all of that great cold-air ducting. And, of course, you're looking at all of your couplers, clamps, hoses, everything needed to make this a 100% complete kit. Finally, guys, the kit is backed by K&N signature 10-year, or million-mile, warranty, just in case you should run into any issues. The price point for the Series 77 is gonna land in the low $400 range here, which does put it somewhere between the S&B options on the lower side of the price point and some of the ROUSH options and aFe options on the higher side. So, it's kind of priced right in the middle there of some of your other more popular designs on the site. What I'm gonna tell you guys is check out all of the options before making your decision. Do you really want a sealed enclosure? If so, the S&B options might be a slightly better choice for the price point. But if you really like that exposed filter design, you really wanna hear that 5-liter growl, the K&N is certainly really hard to beat. Finally, let's get into that installation, guys. And listen, installing a cold air, I would say, is gonna be one of the easier mods you'll ever tackle on your F-150 at home. Certainly a good gateway mod, if you will, to get you into modding some more in the future. So, with all that said, let's just call it a pretty solid one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. And the site's actually gonna call this one an hour at absolute most, from start to finish. If it takes you a little bit longer than that because you're just starting out wrenching, don't sweat it guys, no big deal. It's better to get it right than get it done fast. But for a little bit more info, what do you say we head out to the shop right now? Let's check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown.Man: Tools required for this install include a ratchet, 13/16 wrench, a Phillips-head screwdriver, a pair of scissors, an extension, a shallow 7 and deep 8-millimeter sockets, and a 4-millimeter Allen socket. What's up, guys. Today we're gonna be installing a cold-air intake on our F-150. So, let's get started. So, our first step is to remove our two push clips that are holding our intake inlet into place. So, we'll grab a clip remover tool and pop these out. Our next step is to remove our 13-millimeter box that's holding our air box into place. So, we'll grab a 13-millimeter socket and pop this bolt out. Our next step is to loosen our clamp on our throttle body. Now, you can use a 7-millimeter socket or a flat-head screwdriver to remove this. So, I'm gonna grab a 7-millimeter socket.Next, we have to disconnect our CCV line from the engine and the intake. So, on the back side, there's a little blue tab that you're gonna have to pull out to remove. And then we can just wiggle backwards. This is that blue tab here, you're just gonna pull that there and it'll open it up. And we'll do that same thing over here, on the engine side, and remove our CCV line. Now, the last couple things we have to do before we remove our stock intake is to pop out this coolant line and disconnect the two clips on our air box. So, those will just pop off and our coolant line we can just pop right out of that little groove. So, now we can lift up the side of the air box that we disconnected our clips on and slide it towards the front of the truck. And then we'll disconnect our intake tube from our throttle body and pull our intake assembly out. So, now, the last step of our uninstall is to remove our factory air filter. This will just pop right out just like that. So, our first step to assembling our new intake is to assemble our CCV line. So, we have our two fittings that'll go on either end. They'll just slide in like that. And then we have our two clamps, it's gonna be using a Phillips-head screw. So, I've got a Phillips-head screwdriver to tighten down our clamps. So, we'll take our clamp and slide that on first, and then we can get our fitting in there, slide the clamp into place, and we'll take that Phillips-head screwdriver to tighten down our clamp. And then we can do the same thing on the other side.Next up we can start to assemble our intake box. So, we have our filter adapter that's gonna go from the inside out. And then we have 4-millimeter Allen-head bolts that are gonna go through the front side. These are gonna get a locking washer and a flat washer on them as well. We can put them through from the outside and then tighten them down with a 4-millimeter Allen wrench. And I will take that 4-millimeter Allen bit to tighten down our 2 bolts.Next, we can install our filter into our new air box. So, we'll take our clamp and slide that over the edge of our filter. And then we're just gonna slide that over the adapter that we just installed. And then we can get an 8-millimeter socket, or you could also use a flat-head screwdriver, and we'll tighten down our clamp.Next, we can install our edge trim along the top of our air box. So, with this, you just push it down. And now we have a little bit of excess here, so, we're going to grab a pair of scissors to cut off our excess. So, next up we can take our intake tube and our CCV fitting and we'll thread it into this [inaudible 00:10:13] here. And then we can take a 13/16 wrench to tighten this down. Now, we just want it snug, we don't wanna overtighten this guy. And then, once we have that snug, we can get it installed into our air box. Now we can connect our intake tube to our air box. We're gonna be using the coupler that has that hump right in the middle. So, we'll take our clamp, slide it over the edge of our coupler, and then slide it onto our intake box. And on the other side we'll get another clamp. And then we can slide our intake tube into place. And then we'll tighten down both of our clamps with our 8-millimeter socket. So, now we can install our new CCV hose. So, we'll install it to the engine side first. Now, this is different than our factory one. Instead of that blue tab that we pull out, we have a gray tab that we're gonna push in if we ever go to remove this. So, let's get it on there and then push it straight down until we hear that click. So, next we can install our coupler onto our throttle body. Now, we have two hose clamps left, they're labeled number 60 and number 64. Now, the number 61 is gonna be the one going onto the throttle body. So, we'll slide our clamp over the coupler, slide our coupler over the throttle body, and then we can take an 8-millimeter socket to tighten down our clamp. So, now we're ready to install our intake assembly. So, we're gonna take that number 64 clamp. Again, it's nice and labeled on the clamp. I'll slide that over our throttle body coupler. And then we can grab our air box and our intake tube. And remember, this is gonna go underneath this coolant line. And then we can put our intake tube into our throttle body. Then, next we can get our clamp into position, grab our 8-millimeter socket, and tighten down our clamp. So, now, with our intake assembly installed, we can re-clip these two clips on our air box to hold our new air box down. And now our last step is to connect our CCV hose to our fitting on our intake tube. Now, one more thing that's important to note is to make sure that you have the straight fitting here for the intake side and the 90 degree that goes on the engine side. Otherwise you'll get a nice kink in your hose. So, again, we'll just slide that in, press it down until we hear that click. And now we can wrap up our install. So, that'll wrap up this review and install of the K&N Series 77 High Flow Performance Cold Air Intake for your 2021 and newer 5.0-liter F-150. Thank you for watching. And for all things F-150 keep it right here at americantrucks.com.

As its name suggests, this cold air intake features a high airflow design to give your engine maximum amounts of cold air. This in turn ensures total fuel combustion to enhance your ride’s horsepower and torque levels. This extra power and torque enable you to negotiate more demanding off-road trails.

ECU Re-Tuning Not Needed. This cold air intake will provide your truck with its performance potential without the need for re-tuning your ECU. That said, giving your ECU a re-tune in the future is always a good idea as this will make certain your engine and this intake’s performance are completely in sync.

Less Restrictive Oiled Air Filter. This cold air intake ensures only clean air is delivered to your engine via a specially designed oiled air filter. This air filter utilizes a multi-layer oiled cotton gauze filter media in a pleated configuration to provide efficient filtration without compromising air flow. What’s more, this filter is easy to clean and maintain using a suitable air filter cleaning and recharging kit and requires cleaning only after 100,000 miles.

Long-Lasting Build Quality. This cold air intake’s air intake tube is made from high-quality aluminum alloy that’s mandrel-bent to precise specifications. This combination of specialized manufacturing and quality materials creates a long-lasting intake tube that encourages free-flowing air movement. This assembly also includes a machine-formed alloy heat shield that’s powder-coated in black to keep the air filter protected from damaging engine bay heat. To round out its construction, the intake tube is then buffed to a polished finish, giving your engine bay stunning looks.

Practical Install Procedure. This cold air intake is designed to replace your factory air intake assembly without the need for modifications. Minor assembly is necessary before installation. Also, installation is completed using just standard hand tools.
