How Do Superchargers Work?

Installing a Supercharger is not rocket science, but it can seem like a daunting task. With every supercharger kit we carry, you can be sure that clear and concise instructions will be provided. Installation can usually be completed within a 6-8 hour timeframe. Manufacturers take serious measures to ensure that each kit is complete with everything you will need including do-it-yourself instructions to install a supercharger. On top of that, highly trained technicians are just a phone call away if you run into problems during your supercharger install.

How Superchargers Work

What do superchargers do? A supercharger is a compressor wheel spun by a pulley on the engine. This air is then directed through the intake manifold into each cylinder. By adding more air, we now have more room for more fuel. In a nutshell, it forces air into your combustion chambers rather than just a passive intake—this gives your motor an oxygen-rich air/fuel mixture, which results in added power and performance. With all this extra air and fuel it becomes necessary to start thinking about upgrading engine internals. There are three main types of superchargers: the root style supercharger, the centrifugal style supercharger and the twin screw supercharger. The difference is in the configuration, but in the end, they all do the same thing—deliver a giant pedal punch to the tune of triple digit horsepower and terrific torque.

Selecting a Supercharger

Whether you're looking for a Camaro supercharger or a blower for any performance vehicle, there are a plethora of makers to consider. Supercharger reviews are a great place to begin your search. Some of our favorites include Magna superchargers, Vortech superchargers and Whipple superchargers. Another frontrunner is a custom Edelbrock supercharger. No matter what brand you ultimately select, you can’t go wrong with the sheer power of a supercharger.

What Supercharger is Best for You?

If you're looking for a part that provides up to a hundred horsepower gain, you can be sure a supercharger is just what you need. By giving your engine gargantuan gulps of pure oxygen, a supercharger will not only pump your ponies, but also top out your torque and give you giant gas gains. Superchargers deliver this trio of goodness readying your ride for the winner's circle and getting you to the front of the pack on your daily drive.

Installation Notes

Al Eo mecallation Reviewed by Thomas U (McDonough, GA Reviewed for a 2006 Lexus Price/Value GS 300—2012-02-01 18:40:34 Quality My installation was completed by the best, Kiwi Riordan, a good friend the works at Hendrick Performance. This is not an installation that should be undertaken my a novice. The most difficult part of the installation is staking the crankshaft pulley per Kiwi. He also spent many hours on the horns due to the ridged mounting bracket supplied in the kit. This is a known problem that Edelbrock is correcting. The completed installation looks like it came from the factory. Complements must go to Edelbrock for this excellent design. I am at 515 rwhp and 487 torque Ibs with my Stainless Works headers and hi-flow CATs. I got 26 mpg driving back from Charlotte to Atlanta. What more can you ask for. It is a sleeper to say the least.
