Jake: Jake here for AmericanTrucks. And today I'm taking a look at the Flowmaster FlowFX Single Side Exit Exhaust With Black Tip, fitting 2021 and newer 5-liter F-150s, excluding the Tremor. Now, exhausts can make or break the driving experience of your truck, and if you're looking for a noticeable but subtle way to update your F-150 sound and performance, then this FlowFX system is going to appeal to you. Coming in at a two out of five on our loudness meter, this system combines a slick-looking setup with a more subtle version of that classic Flowmaster sound at a very affordable price point, making it an excellent choice for the daily-driven truck.A Flowmaster exhaust and American V8 is a classic combination but it's very easy to go overboard on noise. So, if you want that classic Flowmaster look and sound but you don't wanna go around rattling the windows or getting your neighbors irritated, then the FlowFX is gonna be for you. Unlike a lot of other systems, it's not super loud. Now, as you heard in the clips at the beginning of the video, you do still get that nice deep V8 soundtrack when you get into it but, at idle or even just cruising around, the sound is much more mild. You get a little bit of that burble at idle but it's still relatively unobtrusive. It's what you would call a moderate step up from a stock system. Definitely gonna be a difference in volume and tone of the exhaust versus that stock system, not so little that you won't notice the difference at all, it is most certainly there. Now, of course, more noise outside means more noise inside. And inside the cabin you're gonna hear this more than you would your stock system as well, but again it won't be so loud that you can't carry on a conversation, nor are you going to get tons of drone either. So, for a daily-driven truck or one that sees a lot of highway miles, that is a great benefit. You get the sound that you want with none of the annoyances that sometimes come with aftermarket exhausts. Now, although Flowmaster calls this FlowFX muffler a straight-through unit, you can see and also hear that there's quite a bit of baffling in there, hence that more mild tone than something like their Outlaw series. So, this is gonna combine to keep the drone at base. Since this is a full cat-back, this is what's gonna replace your muffler and resonator. So, it's gonna help keep the drone away, make for a much more pleasant drive without too much noise. Now, this system also exits in the stock location, so, it's gonna look kinda similar to your factory exhaust as well. But you do get this black ceramic tip to finish it off, making for a nice little visual update. Now, this is 4.5-inches in diameter and it does feature a slash cut so it looks the business as well. The construction of the system is all 409-grade stainless steel, you're gonna get some good rust and corrosion protection out of that. Maybe not quite as much as T304 stainless though. However, you also don't get the price tag of T304, but we'll talk more about that in a moment. The piping here is all 3-inch mandrel-bent tubing, so, that means you're gonna get really good exhaust flow and it's gonna help reduce back pressure as well. The tip here is a single-wall design with T304 stainless construction, getting that a 4.5-inch diameter and the black ceramic finish we were just talking about earlier. So, it's gonna stand the test of time and it's gonna look cool while it's doing it. And again, since this exits in the stock location, there's no need to do any modifications on your truck. Now, all that stuff we just talked about is well and good but the pricing for this might be the biggest selling point in my book, folks, as this one comes in at about $525. Not quite the cheapest system out there but it's definitely one of the much more affordable options out there for this gen of F-150. And for what you're getting here, I think it's definitely worth that price. Again, you're saving a bit of money versus a full T-304-grade stainless setup and you're not getting all the fancy features, valves, etc., but it's still a good-quality system that's gonna sound a little bit better than stock and avoid some of the drone issues that cheaper exhausts typically exhibit. So, for that, definitely well worth the $525.Install for this one is pretty typical and it's gonna get a two out of three on our difficulty meter. You should expect it to take you about 2 hours to complete. Everything you need is included in the kit, including an extension pipe right here for that inlet should you need the extra length to accommodate for a larger cab and/or bed length. Now, instructions on which trucks need this or need cutting to the inlet pipe itself are included in the box, so, do make sure you take a look at that before you go ahead and start mounting it up because that might be something where you need to make a cut or you need to make sure you include this. Otherwise, it's just one cut, really, and then it's a simple bolt-on system. It's gonna utilize all your factory exhaust hangers, so, again, no modification needed to your truck. Definitely something you can accomplish at home, in your garage, or driveway. And with that, let's head over to the install bay where we'll show you exactly what you need to do.Man 1: Tools required for this install include an impact gun, a ratchet, a 14 and 15-millimeter wrench, an extension, a 10, 14, 15, and 17-millimeter socket. What's up, guys. Today we're installing an exhaust on F-150. First, we're gonna watch a quick video showing you how to uninstall the stock exhaust, and I'll meet you right back here for the install.Man 2: Start by grabbing a 13-millimeter socket and undoing the 2 bolts at the flange. Next, take your exhaust hanger removal tool and get the muffler out of the isolator. Next, we're gonna slide our exhaust towards the tail end so we can get them out of the two additional hangers. And then we're gonna drop the whole exhaust as a full. I grabbed a buddy to help me out with that.Man 1: So, now the first thing we're gonna do is install our front pipe. So, we have to slip our flange onto our front pipe. The side with the flat edge is gonna go towards the back of the truck, and the side with the beveled edge is gonna go towards the front. Now we can raise up our pipe. I've got a pole jack here just to support the weight of the back. And then, once we have that in place, we can take our factory bolts and slide them through. Now our hardware has been replaced, so, we have a 15-millimeter bolt with a 15-millimeter nut on the back, the factory here, 13-millimeter bolts. So, now we can take our 17-millimeter socket and 15-millimeter wrench to tighten down our bolts. If you have the factory bolts, it's just gonna be a 13-millimeter bolt. Our next step is to install our hanger clamp onto our front pipe. Now, this might be a little bit tight, so, you can get it started around the edge. So, now, once we have our clamp slid over our pipe, we can get that into our isolator. And then we're not gonna tighten this down until the end when we have our whole exhaust in position and then we'll come back and tighten down that clamp.Next we can install our muffler. So, we're gonna take one of our 3-inch clamps, slide it over our muffler inlet, and then we'll slide our muffler onto our front pipe. And then we can slide our clamp into position and tighten that down. So, now we'll take a 15-millimeter socket to tighten down our clamp. Now, before we install our over axle pipe, we're gonna add our hangers to our rods first. So, we'll take our first one, work it back and forth, slide it on. And we'll do the same thing with our second one, making sure you get it in the right orientation. And now we're ready to get this installed onto the truck. So, now we can add another one of our 3-inch clamps onto our muffler outlet, and then we can get our over axle pipe in place. So, now we can take our hanger and we're gonna slide our one tab into the large square hole. And then we'll thread our factory bolt into our other side. And then we can take a 10-millimeter socket to tighten down our bolt. And now for our rear most hanger we can just reinstall our two 10-millimeter bolts. You might have to adjust your hanger a little bit just to get everything to line up. And then we'll take our 10-millimeter socket to tighten these down. And now we can come back to the inside of the frame rail to tighten down our second bolt. And now we can slide our clamp into position and take our 15-millimeter socket to tighten it down. So, now we can go back and tighten down our hanger clamp now that our exhaust is in its final resting position. So, we'll take our 15-millimeter socket once again and tighten this down. So, now our last step is to install our tip. So, we can just slide that right over our over axle pipe, and then we're gonna be tightening that down with a 14-millimeter socket and a 14-millimeter wrench. So, that'll wrap up this review and install of the Flowmaster FX Single Exhaust System With Black Tip and Side Exit for your 2021 and newer 5.0-liter F-150s, excluding the Tremor.Thank you for watching. And for all things F-150, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
