Jake: Jake here for americantrucks.com and today we are taking a look at the OEM-style LED Bed Lighting Kit for the 2015 to 2020 Ford F-150. This kit is a simple, effective, and worry-free choice for the F-150 owner who's looking to upgrade their bed lighting. If you haul lots of stuff or if you use your bed often later in the evenings, this is absolutely a worthwhile upgrade for you. These integrate seamlessly with the F-150's other lighting and they're gonna greatly increase the functionality of your bed space. Bed lights are something that most people won't think about until they have to use them, but once you find yourself needing them, you'll understand why these are so important. The first thing of note here are the LED bulbs themselves. These are a 6,000K color temperature light, so they're gonna be super bright if you have a tonneau cover or a bed cap on your truck, or even if you just do a lot of nighttime hauling and driving. You know how helpful a good set of bed lights can be.In my eyes though, the best thing about them is how seamlessly they integrate with your truck. When you unlock the doors with your key fob, or if you simply open one of the doors, these lights will automatically illuminate. Conversely, they'll turn off when you lock the doors or if you start the truck. All of that means that you never have to worry about switching your bed lights on or off. No concerns about battery training, blowing out a bulb, or anything like that. Really, it is a no-hassle solution. These are also IP67 rated, which means they are waterproof and dustproof so you don't have to worry about anything getting into them and ruining the housing. The electronic components are hermetically sealed in their housings, and the polycarbonate lens does a good job of protecting it all against heat, moisture, and impacts from whatever you might have in the bed. Pricing here is gonna come in at about $175. While it's not the least expensive solution for updating your bed lighting, I do think these are worth the extra money. Not only are they well constructed, but they're bright and they integrate seamlessly with the rest of your truck's lighting. And since LEDs have such a long lifespan as well, you don't have to worry about replacing bulbs for a while. So let's talk about that install process. These are a plug-and-play type of install. They come in at a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty scale. The kit comes with everything you need, the lights already have their plugs and their wire covers attached, and the wiring harness that you need to get everything plugged in is right here in the kit. You'll only need a few tools to get this accomplished, and the installs should be able to be accomplished in about 15 minutes. It's a job that's very easily accomplished at home by a DIYer. Now, I will say that with the caveat that if your truck is not pre-wired for bed lighting, you will have to get an additional power extension cable. We do have that available on our site, and it is also plug-and-play. It will add a little more time and a little bit of complexity to your install, but still certainly able to be accomplished at home. With that, let's head on over to the install bay and we'll show you exactly how to get these onto your F-150.Man: The tool you'll need for this project is a soft trim removal tool. Hi everyone, today we're installing a set of OEM-style bed lights for our 2018 F-150. But before we can do that, we've got to remove the factory plugs first. Let's go ahead and open up our tailgate. Now, you'll find that there are two plugs, one on each side of the bed. Let's use our soft trim removal tool and get those popped out. We're gonna slip our trim removal tool underneath the plug and repeat for the other side. Now we can go ahead and run our wiring harness through the hole left by our plug. Now we're gonna install this, there's a tab at the top and a clip at the bottom. So we're just gonna slide the tab in first and then push our clip in. Now repeat on the other side. Now we can install our Y connector to our factory plug, which is located attached to the bottom of the bed right underneath here. Now you will notice that there are two additional wires on here, a red one and a black one. We can ignore those because our truck is already pre-wired for the bed lights. Now we can go ahead and disconnect our factory plug by pushing in on the tab and sliding it out. Now we reattach our new wire harness. Now we can go ahead and route our wires up behind our trailer hitch and connect it to our plug. Now repeat for the other side. Now the kit does come with some zip ties. I recommend that you use those and secure both harnesses to the existing harnesses already in the truck to keep 'em out of the way and out of danger. And that wraps up a review and install of our OEM-style Bed Lighting Kit for our '15 to '20 F-150. Thanks for watching, and remember, for all things F-150, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
