      Video Review & Installation

Jake: Jake here for American Trucks. And today, I'm taking a look at this extended-range, 8-inch, aluminum antenna in black, fitting all models and generations of F-150s. Switching out the huge, whip-style antenna that comes on your truck from the factory is an easy, effective modification to make since it makes for a much cleaner look without a whole lot of fuss. But oftentimes, you're gonna sacrifice a bit of radio reception when you switch out your factory antenna, and that is exactly the problem that this little guy seeks to solve. And you get good looks and better reception for a really good price here, making this an ideal choice for lots of F-150 owners. So if you're out in the sticks on a job site or out in the wilderness somewhere camping in a place without cell service or Wi-Fi, it's nice to know that you still have a little bit of contact with the outside world. Now, this shorty antenna is not only significantly shorter in height than your factory setup at a total of 8 inches tall, but it's also designed to enhance your radio reception above and beyond even your OEM antenna. So that means even if you are out in the middle of nowhere, you're still gonna get some decent reception. It's also gonna be much better than some other shorty antennas out there on the market as far as reception goes. Now, construction here is all aluminum, so this is gonna be able to withstand the elements without you having to worry about rust or corrosion. And it's topped off in this nice, black finish that's gonna blend in nicely with the trim on your truck. And since it is quite a bit shorter, it's much less likely to catch or break on something if you even do happen to hit it.Now, pricing here will come in at about $75, and that puts it at about the middle of the range for aftermarket antennas. Not bad at all considering the solid construction and the improvement in both reception and looks. And I love anything that makes a stylistic and functional improvement for under $100.Installation here is also quite simple. Coming in at a 1 out of 3 on the difficulty meter, it should only take you about 10 minutes to get this installed. Now, depending on what generation and year of truck you have, you may need to use a different adapter. But there are a bunch of these included in the box, so you're sure to be able to find one that fits your truck. Not much more I can say about it here at the table. So with that, let's go ahead and throw it over to one of our AT customers who's gonna show you how it's done.Man: Hi. Today, I'm gonna show you how to install a new radio antenna on my pickup truck. This is a 2022 F-150. Yours may be different, but the way will be the same. The tools I'm going to use are a Channellocks and some electrical tape. You may not even need these, but I will show you what I'm going to do here. I'm going to put couple wraps of electrical tape around the jaws of the pliers. This is to stop the marring that may occur on the old antenna and on the new as well. Now, you can try to unscrew it by hand. If it's a little too tight, use the Channellocks, and put them on there, and counterclockwise turn the antenna until it just comes loose, and then you can remove the existing antenna. Don't throw it away just yet. Open the box on the antenna. This is a universal kit. It comes with multiple adapters and the antenna. All right. Take your old antenna and look at the adapters, and try to match up the threads with the new antenna. You can take and hold them up and see how well they do. Try it in the hole by hand first, and be sure that it threads in easily. If it goes hard, you have the wrong adapter. So, start the adapter into the hole. On the antenna, the base slides up and down. Attach the antenna. Screw it down. Twist it firmly. Slide that into place. Rotate the little emblem however you'd like. That's all. Now, you just have some spare adapters if you ever wanna move it to another truck or car. And if you wish, you could slide this up and tighten it even a little more just to keep it snug. That concludes the easy installation of a universal antenna.Jake: That's gonna wrap it up here for our review and install of the extended-range, 8-inch, aluminum antenna in black, fitting all models and generations of F-150. Thanks so much for watching, and remember, for all things F-150, be sure to keep it right here at
