Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com, and today we're taking a closer look at and, of course, installing the Version 2 LED Halo Projector Headlights in Black, available for '04 to '08 F-150. You should be checking these out if you're looking to completely change up the front end look of your F-150, giving it a more modern and very popular halo projector headlight styling. Now, they're a huge difference over the factory headlights, and you'll see that in almost every single way, and we'll break it down closer a little bit later in the video. Now, right up front here, I wanna show you guys it has the two projector lights, one high beam, one low beam, that are both surrounded by a halo accent light. Now, the projectors themselves are a white light that are a lot brighter than your factory bulb, so it is safer and a lot more attractive. And the halo light there actually has a bluish hue to it, which is very popular and common in halo aftermarket lights. In addition to those, you get three accent lights on the corner there toward the outer side of the vehicle, which is the same hue as those halos as well. Now, under that, there's what would be considered typically a DRL, or daytime running light. Now, really the halos and all of the accent lights are gonna be your DRL. They'll run as a daytime light with your parking lights on, but this guy has a hotspot on the corner and fades out toward the front. Now, typically with bars like that, the entire bar lights up in one uniform light. I would have liked to see that be the case here, but instead it does have that hotspot on the corner that slowly and gradually fades out toward the front. Now, in addition to that, you get your factory turn signal bulb right at the top there, and your parking light on the side, with an amber reflector. The entire interior of the headlight is black, but the lens is completely clear, just like your factory option. Now, the '04 to '08 F-150s are reaching upwards of 15 years old at this point, so your headlights are probably looking a little worse for wear. Now, if you're picking up a replacement, these are a great way to go, and you'll notice your factory ones are probably scuffed up, scratched up, filled with condensation and dust particles, so while this is a clear lens, it's a complete refresh. It's not gonna dull out like your factory one would, and definitely not as quickly. It's an impact-resistant polycarbonate clear lens. It's not impeding on any light output like a smoked lens would. The black interior housing gives you the impression of that smoked lens. Now, the headlight here comes as a pair. It does require some splicing, and the price comes in right around 200 bucks for the pair, making it one of the more affordable options in the category. Now, the install gets two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter because there is just one extra step with splicing. But still, guys, 30 minutes to an hour from start to finish will do the trick. You're gonna need some splice connectors that are not included in the kit there. You can pick those up at a local auto parts store or even a hardware store. I'm gonna show you my method for getting the job done. Our truck has had some work on it before, so we do have quick splice connectors already on our harness, but I'll talk about that when we get there. There are many ways to skin a cat. Keep that in mind going into this. If you have a better method that you want to tackle it with, by all means, feel free. Simple hand tools otherwise will do the trick. What do you say we get started? All right, tools used in this install include an impact gun or a ratchet, 10-millimeter deep socket. Recommended would be pliers, wire strippers, and some splice connectors, male and female, recommended. All right, first step is to grab a 10-millimeter socket and you're gonna remove the top and the side bolts. They're 10 millimeters. We'll get them out of the way, and the headlight will come off. All right, from here, pull straight back. On the back, you're just gonna pinch and disconnect all three sockets. All right, set your factory headlight aside. So, we got our factory headlight off of our '07 F-150 behind me, and it's on the table next to our projector light. Now, I wanna show you some similarities and differences here. Now, the big difference is gonna be pretty much the entire redesign of the interior of the housing, while the exterior housing is all OEM-quality materials. You've got your black backing here, which is impact resistant and polycarbonate clear lenses at the front end, letting complete light output through. The inside there, as you can see, uses two projector lights. You're gonna have LED technology in there, as opposed to your factory incandescent bulbs, a lot more attractive, and of course, brighter, while also getting two halos surrounding each projector. You're gonna put your factory amber light turn signal on the top section there. You get three individual white LEDs as accent lights, along with a DRL light bar, or daytime running light, which gives you that modern technology you see in a lot of our newer-gen F-150s. Now, what you are gonna have to do here on the back is just a little bit of splicing, and that's what we're gonna do here on the table, connecting a couple of the accent lights along with the halos together, in order to prep it to splice into our factory harness. Now, full disclosure, our '07 F-150 has had headlights installed on it a hundred times, so we have quick-splice connectors already tapped in there, but I'll show you exactly where you'll wanna tap those into to connect the halos and the accent lights to the parking lights in your factory harness. First step here, let's twist them wires together. We'll transfer over our factory bulb, and head back into the truck. Now, the first thing you wanna look at here is the top corner section. You'll see there's a group of wires here, they're black and white, a little bit thicker. On the bottom, there's a group of red and black wires that are a little bit thinner. Now, these bottom ones here are for your halos. The top ones here are for the accent lights up in that corner, and your DRL. So, what we're gonna do is to make life easier, twist the whites together, and twist the blacks together. That way, we have the powers and the grounds going together to one splice. So, you're gonna take the loose wire ends here, twist them and make sure there's no frays, and then you're gonna twist those two so that they have a good connection together. We'll take both of these wire ends, make a little X with them, and twist them. All right, so that comes together in one. Do the same thing with these two black ones. All right. Now we can do the same thing with the thinner wires to the bottom. That'll be your halos. Take the two black wires and twist those together. Before I do that though, I'm actually gonna strip away a little bit extra of the black coating there, to expose more wire. That way, we have a longer piece to work with, because then, I'm gonna twist these two black guys together. And what you're gonna wanna do is have a little bit longer of a wire, because this is starting to get pretty thick. A longer wire makes it easy to twist around and get a good connection. All right, so I got my wire strippers here. I'm just gonna strip away, again, a little bit more of that, so that it's a little bit longer of a wire there. All right. Now I can take these two black wires, twist them together. All right. Now what I'm gonna do is take this, this halo wire I just twisted together, and I'm gonna twist it onto the other black wires from the corner. All right. So now this is all one. Do the same thing for the red. Now, the red wires I'm gonna twist together with the white wires, because they're both power. We've got a little bit of excess coming off the top, so I'm just gonna trim that. Now, like I said, we already have female splice connectors on our factory harness in the truck, so I'm gonna connect and clamp down the male ends of those same splice connectors, so they'll just plug in in the vehicle. So I'm gonna take the power wires and slip them into these male ends. Put them all the way through, so they get a good connection there at the end, and then I'll clamp it down. Once you have it inserted all the way down, take a pair of pliers, and you're gonna clamp it. So, that basically crushes it so there's metal-on-metal contact. Give it a tug to make sure it's secure, and you'll be able to plug it in and get a good connection. All right, so now we can do the same thing for the black. All right. Once you give it a tug and make sure it's secure, you're just gonna transfer over your factory bulb and head into the truck. For this, grab the brown amber light, for your turn signal, twist it out, and transfer it over. So, that's gonna go right up at the top there. Twist and lock it in place. Now we're gonna take the smaller bolt there, twist that out, and transfer that over. Gonna lock that in place, and now let's head over to the truck. Now, on your vehicle, you're not gonna have these splice connectors there. You're gonna have to tap into that. You're gonna locate your parking light harness. You're not gonna have these quick splice connectors already attached. Like I said, we've already done the work on this guy. So what we did was we cut a piece of that wire and added some to it, to extend it to have female connectors at the end. That way, we can splice in our halos and the accent lights there. So, I recommend doing it this way, but there are a number of other ways that you can do it. There's plenty of ways to skin a cat, so whatever fits your personal preference. What we're gonna do now is take this connector and plug it in, because these are plug and play. Grab this guy, plug it into the corner, and then finally, the brown connector to the brown plug. All right, once that's taken care of, take the power and ground wires that we spliced together on the table, and plug them into those quick splice connectors at the female end. You just wanna make sure the black is going to the black, and the brown is going to the power, which in this case is the white and red. So, this is our black wire, following that guy up to this connector. So we plug our black ones in. Just wanna make sure that's seated all the way down. Then follow the brown wire, which is our power, and plug it into our halos. All right, so now we can test out our lights and reinstall it. All right, so now we can put those factory bolts back in, and tighten them down. All right, repeat on the other side. That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Version 2 LED Halo Projector Lights in Black, available for the '04 to '08 F-150. Pick yours up right here at americantrucks.com.
