So if you own a 2010 to 2018 Silverado with the 5.3 motor and you were basically looking for one of the loudest and most affordable cat-backs for your truck, you should be checking out the Carven Competitor Series cat-back with the factory side exit configuration. As you just heard from our sound clips, this thing easily gets a five out of five on my loudness meter. The only system that I would say will be louder than this one is the ATAK system from Borla. Now there's a really cool thing about this. Even though this is one of the loudest and most affordable, it's also one of the most well built. Carven is an up and coming name in the category. However, they do make some high-quality products and this cat-back is no different. You're actually getting 304 stainless throughout with the system. Most systems at this price point are only going to be made out of factory grade 409 stainless or they might even be made out of entry-level aluminized steel. Other thing that I really like about this system is it is matched to your cab and bed length, so there is no cutting required, and for that reason, I'm going to give the install a very easy one out of three wrenches on my patented difficulty meter. You should actually be able to get this installed in the driveway with basic hand tools in about an hour or two. So if you like the price, you like the way the Carven sounds, and I'm certainly a big fan, you should stick around. I'm gonna show you the install step by step. So without further ado, let's go ahead and get started. To install your new cat-back, you're going to need the following tools, a drive ratchet, a 13-millimeter socket, a 15-millimeter socket, and a 5/16 Allen key. Optional but helpful tools include a cordless impact, some spray lubricant, and a pry bar. So obviously before we install our new exhaust, we have to move our factory cat-back. If you take your time, you can remove the cat-back as one piece without having a Sawzall anything off.Factory cat-back is held on by one clamp right here behind the cat and in front of this flex fitting. First step is to loosen this clamp right here and to do so, you'll need a 13-millimeter socket. Now that we have that clamp removed, we have to remove our exhaust hangers from the rubber isolators. There are four in total, one just behind the clamp and the crossmember right here. There's two behind the muffler, and there's one at the tailpipe. This is rubber on metal, so it's a little bit of a squeeze. It's helpful to have some penetrating oil on hand, make it a lot easier for you. So once you've pulled three of those four hangers from the rubber isolators, you're gonna get to this last one here at the tailpipe. It's very important you take your time removing this one because once you do, the entire cat-back will be free from your truck. So pull this hanger from this rubber isolator and gently let your cat-back rest on your axle back here. Once you've done that, you can go back up front, push the entire system back towards the rear bumper so that flex fitting gets over your crossmember. Go ahead and drop that flex fitting down front, then you can pull the entire cat-back from the vehicle. Again, take your time with this. This is a heavy system. So now that we have our factory cat-back removed, we have our new Carven exhaust all mocked up so we can see how it fits and a couple of cool similarities here. You can see that it does reuse all your factory hangers. So again, like I said earlier, this is a bolt-on application. Other really nice thing, again, to point out is the mid pipe is factory length from the flex fitting to the muffler, so there's no cutting there. That's where these similarities end. A couple of differences I really like about the Carven system is the fact that the Competitor Series lives up to its name as you can see from this tiny little muffler here. It's actually smaller than the factory resonator, which I think is pretty cool. That's where you're getting all that volume from. Other thing that I really like about the Carven system is it is 3 inches in diameter throughout, whereas the factory system from the muffler to the tailpipe is 2-3/4 inches, so that's where you get some of that deeper tone coming out of there as well. I really like the way Carven pulled off the tip on this one too. I think it gives it a nice kind of stealthy finish. Let's face it, the factory system leaves something to be desired there. Last thing to talk about here, this is a 409 stainless setup, so you do see some surface rust and corrosion on here as is normal with all factory systems. However, what I really like about Carven is it is 304 stainless, so it's just going to hold up even better to all that rain and snow that you might see, or if you take your truck off-road and you get it muddy, don't get to worry about developing any pinhole leaks in this new system. So without further ado, let's go ahead and throw this new one on, shall we? So first step of our install is putting our new mid-pipe on. Now Carven does provide you with a new clamp for the flex fitting up here. Ours is in good shape and I don't feel like prying it off, so we're just gonna reuse it. Again, to tighten that down, we're gonna use a 13-millimeter socket. We're going to get this just tight enough that the pipe doesn't fall off, but we still want a little bit of give, that way we can make sure that everything lines up. You're also reusing your rubber isolator back here behind that crossmember with the new hanger on your mid-pipe. Now we can install our muffler. To do that, you're gonna grab one of the three-inch clamps that I've got in my hand here, throw it over the outlet on your mid-pipe like so. Just let it hang there. Once you do that, you're gonna slide the muffler assembly onto the mid-pipe and you're gonna be reusing those two rubber isolators next to the rear shock. Now that our muffler is hung up, we can install our tailpipe. To do that, you're gonna grab the last three-inch clamp in the kit, slide it on the outlet of the muffler assembly. Then you're gonna slide the tailpipe in place and you're going to hang it on that last rubber isolator up here next to your leaf spring. So now that our tailpipe is hung up and in place, we can install our tip. To do that, you're gonna need a 5/16 Allen key in order to tighten this down. So with our exhaust tip lined up and tightened down, we can tighten down our three clamps. The two clamps that we installed with the kit use a 15-millimeter socket, and then remember we're going to need a 13-millimeter socket for the clamp up near the Y-pipe and the cat itself. So once you got that last clamp tightened down, that should actually wrap up our install. And that also wraps up my review of the Carven Competitor Series cat-back with the factory side exit configuration fitting your 2010 to 2018 5.3-liter powered Silverado. I'm Travis. Better Than Borla and Corsa
My dad and brother and I all have 2017-2018 Silverados with the 5.3 and their trucks have the Corsa exhausts and I get more compliments on my Carven exhaust on how it sounds more aggressive. The quality is amazing and its not loud in the cab but when you get on it heads turn. Amazing quality and an even better price. Don't waste 1,000 bucks on a Corsa or Borla. Buy this exhaust!!!Helpful (2)

By far the best exhaust!
Just got this in today and had it installed in 20 minutes tops! The fit and finish is amazing. Everything fit together like a glove! I had checked online for every exhaust I could find and stumbled upon Carven on a forum. I have to say that this is by far the best sounding exhaust I’ve ever heard. The YouTube videos don’t do it justice. This is coming from a Borla guy who had an XR-1 on my 05 Silverado. The Carven competitor cat-back system is very similar in tone as a Borla exhaust bit for half of the price. Well worth every penny!Helpful (4)

Super easy install after the old exhaust is out. Nice rumble at start up and acceleration but not too loud while cruising. Nicely priced and worth the money. Exactly what I was looking for!Helpful (4)
Why does this say it will fit 2010-2018 Silverados but all others show fitment as 14-18?
This exhaust has a unique design that allows it to fit this broader range of years. We have had quite a few customers with 2011's who love this.
What is the diameter of the system itself?
The tubing would be 3" in diameter.
What is the inlet on the exhaust tip on this system?
The exhaust tip is 4 inches in diameter.
