      Video Review & Installation

Hey, guys, Adam here with americantrucks.com. Today we're taking a closer look at installing and dynoing the Brenspeed Rev-X by SCT Tuner with Brenspeed Tunes available for the '11 to '14 5-liter F-150. You should be checking this out for your own truck if you're looking to boost the horsepower and torque numbers, especially at the low end, to give yourself a more enjoyable driving experience with a lot of benefits and a handheld tuner. This particular option here with the Brenspeed tunes gets you up to three custom tunes of your choice catered to your specific vehicle and all of your specific mods. Whether it be completely bone stock, mildly modded, or heavily bolt-on modded, you can definitely maximize the potential of everything you have on your vehicle to give you the most out of your 5.0.So, full disclosure, guys, our 2013 5.0 has 93 octane in the tank, completely bone stock as far as mods are concerned and just has a set of 35-inch tires on it. So, of course, that comes into play when dynoing the vehicle, but there's a number of different variables that can affect it, just keep that in mind. So stock 93 octane, we walk away with 264 horsepower at 278 foot-pounds of torque. We then uploaded our 93 tune from Brenspeed, granted under the same conditions, walked away with 278 horsepower and 302 foot-pounds of torque at the rear wheels. That's good for peak gains of 15 horsepower and 23 torque at the rear. So pretty respectable gains for peak, but I want to look at the curve gains as well. Now the curve gains are typically where you want it in the low to mid-range and that's exactly what we got here with our 5.0. The curves, looking at 20 horsepower, 24 foot-pounds of torque at the rear. That's about five more horsepower than peak, pretty respectable for our 5.0 at the low end, that's where you really want the torque on these big rig 5.0s, the big F-150s. You want that torque at the low end to make getting uphill a little bit easier. It's better for towing and hauling and overall it's gonna make daily driving a lot more fun. Now, this particular tune is gonna focus on a number of different things including altering your fuel strategies from the factory which are a little bit lean, typically, especially a little bit moderate in the way they dump fuel at wide open throttle, while also altering the drive-by-wire to eliminate or reduce that delay in the time it takes for you to get going off the line. They also take timing into consideration. Spark, adding timing and spark can also, you know, increase your horsepower and torque potential, and there's a number of other elements taken into consideration. All of that is built into your custom tunes here, but there's a number of other things you get with the Rev-X, cloud capability to sync and download all of your files from the cloud wirelessly with Wi-Fi capabilities as well. You can also get wireless updates to software and firmware on your device. You can track live engine vitals like coolant temp, air-fuel ratio, so on and so forth, as well as reading and clearing your DCC codes, otherwise known as your check engine light codes. This whole device comes in at just over the $400 mark making it a little bit more affordable than some of the other options in the category. It's about the size of your smartphone and as easy to use. Install, I'm gonna give one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter here. Anybody can tackle it in the driveway at home with about 15 minutes from start to finish, you'll just follow all the instructions on the device. I'm actually gonna take you through the entire tuning process, so let's get to it.Guys, the first step of course, is to grab the harness included in the kit, plug the OBD2 slot of the harness into your OBD2 under the driver side dashboard. Once you have that plugged in, hop in and we'll connect the other end. Now the first thing I want to show you guys is how to actually tune your vehicle. Now once you plug the device in from the top end, you're gonna be booted up to the main menu. Basically, what you want to do is go right into Program Vehicle, confirm that your VIN number is correct. From here it may prompt you to connect to Wi-Fi. Now, Wi-Fi connectivity is gonna be very important to make device updates if need be, while also being able to pull your file from the cloud if that's where your tuner put it. Now, we already have our file downloaded from the cloud to our device so I'm gonna skip that step, but I want to take you guys through. Now, if you need to make a device update, do so now. Again, ours is up to date. From here, again, it'll ask for cloud sync. If you need to pull your file from the cloud, we're gonna go ahead and skip. Confirm the street notice, you know, letting you know your device is not legal for sale or use in California or pollution-controlled vehicles. Continue. Make sure your key is in the ignition and on the on position, turn the ignition on but not starting the vehicle. Press continue. From here, you'll be able to access your custom tunes. Now, you may have several in the custom tunes section, definitely something that's gonna be differently labeled than what we have here. We have dyno use only tunes from Brenspeed for our specific, you know, dyno session here for the video. I'm gonna go ahead and select our 93 octane '13 F-150. Basically, what it'll now is load zero to 100 a couple of times, first off, unlocking your processors, saving your factory tune to the device. That way, if you ever want to revert back to stock, you'll have that right here on the Rev-X. From there, it'll go ahead and write your tune. It might ask you to turn the key off and on toward the end, so you want to be nearby. Just have a little bit of patience. Don't turn your key off and don't unplug your device.Guys, once it hits 100%, you'll get a notification saying programming complete. At this point you can unplug your device. Now, before we do that, I want to take you through some of the features. Now, instead of program vehicle, you can come down from the main menu and touch on gauges and data logging. Now, gauges and data logging, some guys might use all the time, some guys might not use at all, it really all depends on whether or not you're interested in tracking live data from your vehicle. Now, what I mean by live data would be coolant temp, air-fuel ratio, trans-temp, voltage, boost and psi, so on and so forth. There's just a number of things that you can track and you can do it on the fly in your vehicle from an arm's reach. If you buy a windshield mount or something to mount your device, you can mount it in eyesight or you can just tuck it away in the center console. Moving on to the gauges screen here, that's what you're seeing. Right now, it's monitoring the most it can, eight different gauges at once and we have V-power, we have so many different options. If I wanted to go in and change something, let's say we want to change the top right, we can click on it, click on Item. Say we want to monitor coolant temp. Approve. There it is.Now, it's really useful for the guys who want this information. And the other thing you can do is start recording the data. So you can actually datalog everything you see here, and you can share that with your tuner to make revisions if you'd like, make some updates. That's all at the fingertips on the Rev-X device. So I'm gonna hit Stop Data Log and that'll push us back to the main menu. So go down to vehicle functions. You also can read and clear your diagnostic trouble codes otherwise known as your check engine light. That light comes on on the dashboard, it's gonna drive everybody crazy, you can just plug this device in, you can read the code and description on the device and clear it once you take care of that, so those two features are here. Special functions, those aren't really gonna be used by most people. I'll take you guys into it so you can see what that's like. It's really not gonna be something that most people focus on the day to day driver. So we'll skip everything to get into the menu. Key off, continue. At this point, you can do a cam reset or a crank relearn and again, guys, not something most people are gonna worry about. Just wanted to show you those options. Vehicle info, you wanna throw your key on. This is useful if you ever want to go and request a new tune or if you want to learn your VIN number really quick, say the sticker fell off, or for whatever reason you don't have access to your VIN, you can go right in here and get your vehicle info, ECM strategy, so on and so forth. Again, very useful for the guys putting in a new tune request. Device info, device name, device part number, serial number is very useful for when you're requesting new tunes as well. Device Settings. There's four really crucial things in the device settings, check for updates, cloud file sync, upload data log to cloud and Wi-Fi. Wi-Fi connectivity allows you to use the top three things I just mentioned. If you're close to your local network, connect to that. You can check for wireless updates without having to plug the Rev-X device into your laptop or computer. You can cloud file sync, again if your tuner uploaded your tune to the cloud, if Brenspeed threw it on the cloud, you can download that from the cloud to your device to put on your truck without plugging it into the computer and connecting it to the device updater. Same thing for data log, it goes the other way, you can upload your data log that we just went through in the gauges and data log screen to the cloud so your tuner can access it and make revision. So, useful stuff. The rest of it is very simple settings, brightness, orientation. You can orient it so it's in landscape instead of portrait, you can change the theme color from dark red to whatever. Management mode, audio, startup functions. Start-up functions I think is cool. If you're mainly using this on a day to day basis for gauges, you can make it so that when you plug the device and it automatically goes into your gauges screen, I think that's pretty cool. And you can do a factory reset. So, those are really the main functions of the device. Well, that's gonna wrap up my review, dyno, and install for the Brenspeed Rev-X by SCT Tuner with up to three custom Brenspeed tunes available for the '11 to '14 5.0 F-150. If you wanna pick this one up for your own truck, you can do so right here at americantrucks.com.

More Power and Better Performance. Improve the power and performance of your 2011-2014 5.0L V8 Ford F-150 with a SCT Rev-X Tuner that includes Brenspeed Custom Tune File(s). When your F-150 rolled off the assembly line, Ford programmed it to cater to the needs of the daily driver, not the performance enthusiast who adds aftermarket bolt-on modifications in the search for more power. So, if your F-150 is bone stock or if you have added a cold air intake, throttle body, exhaust or other bolt-on performance upgrades, you'll need a custom tune to see the full power potential that these aftermarket mods can make.

Custom Brenspeed Tune File. When you order a Rev-X Tuner by SCT, you aren't just getting a tuner. You're getting the tuner and dyno-tested custom tune file(s) that is written specifically for your F-150 and your particular modifications by a Brenspeed calibrator. Brenspeed design their tunes to pass a rigorous list of specifications through racing, street driving, and dyno testing before they are released to the public. By optimizing cam timing curves, spark curves, and air/fuel tables, a Brenspeed Custom Tune will squeeze out the extra power Ford left on the table.

WiFi Updates and Cloud Tuning. The Rev-X Tuner by SCT is Wi-Fi capable meaning it will always be up to date. Once setup with your Wi-Fi password, the Rev-X will download the latest firmware updates via the internet. Besides firmware updates, your Rev-X can also download your custom tune files via the cloud, reducing the hassles of transferring files from your PC to your Rev-X device.

Data Logging and Monitoring. The Rev-X Tuner by SCT makes it easy to read the Built-In Data Logging and/or the Real Time Data, so you can view popular sensor data such as EGT, Air/Fuel Ratio or any other 0-5 Volt source. You can even customize the monitoring capability of your Rev-X using device's free Livelink software.

Diagnostics Tool. The Rev-X Tuner can also be used as a diagnostic code reader. Save yourself hundreds of dollars each year by reading and clearing your own Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) rather than paying a dealer to do the same. It's as easy as a few simple steps.

Easy to Load; Easy to Restore. When you load your custom tune on the vehicle, the tuner automatically stores your vehicle's factory settings. To return the vehicle to its factory settings, just plug the tuner back in, select the option to restore the factory settings, and you're done. This is ideal for visiting dealerships for warranty work.

Application. This Rev-X Tuner by SCT that includes a Custom Brenspeed Tune is specifically designed for 2011-2014 5.0L V8 Ford F-150 models that are stock or running basic bolt-on modifications such as a Cold Air Intake, Throttle Body and/or Full Exhaust System. Aftermarket camshafts, aftermarket and/or ported Heads, or aftermarket intake manifolds are not supported.

**Please Note: The SCT Rev-X Tuner ships blank from AmericanTrucks, the custom tune files will be emailed directly to the end user within 2-3 business days from Brenspeed.
