Review & Install Video
Hey guys, Adam here with americanmuscle.com. Today, I am bringing you a quick overview and installation of the Barricade 4-inch Oval Straight Side Step in gloss black, available for all '09 to '14 F-150s. So, in this video, of course we'll be going over the styling and appearance you can expect out of the oval straight side step from Barricade, but as well as the functionality we'll also touch on the materials and construction, and I'll top the video off with the install which, I'll let you know upfront here, gets a very simple one-out-of-three wrenches on our difficulty meter because it doesn't require any permanent modifications.
The Barricade 4-inch oval straight side step in gloss black will be for any 2009 to 2014 F-150 owner who's looking to pick up a side step with a very, very simplistic design for the rig to help them get in out of their truck on a daily basis, or for the guys out there who wanna switch it up and maybe get a direct fit replacement for a damaged or broken one that they may already have. Obviously, adding a side step to your rig can help you in a number of ways. Aside from the aggressive appearance that you can pick up when adding these to your F-150, you're obviously getting an aid to help you get in and out of your truck. This particular option that we have here from Barricade doesn't stray too far from the OEM style option that you may already have on your F-150. If you do have that one already installed, this would be a perfect replacement if that one has been damaged in an accident, or if you're looking to just pick up a clean, new one. Now, if you don't already have one on your F-150, this is a pretty good way to get a very OEM styling for your F-150, to make it look like it came on the rig from the factory.
Obviously, materials and construction comes into play when you're talking about something that can offer slight protection for the sides of your truck, especially in the parking lot against those door dings. Now, something like this will be manufactured out of a 4-inch stainless steel tubing from head to toe, has an oval shape design as you can see here and it's completely straight from front to back. It will extend the length of your cab, whatever specific trim you have on your F-150, and it also offers a gloss black finish and slip resistant pads to make sure you're getting in and out of the truck safely, no matter what the weather condition.
I wanna take a second here to point out that a lot of people would describe side steps such as this one as protection for your F-150. Now, like I said a second ago, it will protect against door dings in the parking lot, even small rocks or hazards you might run into out there when you're off-roading but, all in all, this is not going to be treated as full-on side armor. If you are looking for a more durable protection, there are other options out there for that specific function. This one really just looks aggressive on your F-150, serves as a direct OEM style replacement and, of course, this helps you get in and out of your truck on a daily basis, nothing more.
Now, if you're not too familiar with Barricade parts, Barricade typically makes very affordable options out there, something a bit more budget-friendly, as opposed to the other options on the market. This one is definitely gonna be no different. This comes in just around the $100 mark and, compared to some of the other options - like I said - you can be paying $200, $300, sometimes even $400 for some more durable options out there. Now again, this is just gonna be an OEM styling out here with a slight protection from door dings and just an aid to help you get in out of the truck. Now, if that's what you're looking for, the $100 for this Barricade option might be for you if you're interested in the very simplistic styling of this sleek, aggressive side step.
Now, shifting gears over to the installation part of the video, like I said in the beginning, this is gonna get a one-out-of-three wrenches on our difficulty meter. It's gonna be one of the easier things to install on your F-150, using some very common hand tools like a ratchet and socket set, and you won't even need to jack the truck up to get it done. Now, overall, this should take you about an hour's worth of time in the driveway at home, I'd say about 30 minutes for each side, and you really won't even need a helping hand since this one will be so easy.
So, right when you open up the box, you'll find two side steps - obviously, one for each side of your truck - and the brackets to support them on your rocker panels. Now, in order to get started, you wanna install those brackets on the underside of your rocker panel using the pre-existing mounting holes on the interior wall of that panel. Once you have that bolted down, you can pick up the Barricade oval straight side step and bolt it down to those brackets. Now, obviously, there's a few brackets for each side, so you wanna take your time and make sure they are bolted down properly and torqued to spec. Once you have that side done, switch it over to the opposite side, do the exact same thing and you're good to go. Overall, like I said, about an hour's maximum time in the driveway at home, one-out-of-three wrenches on our difficulty meter.
And just to quickly wrap things up here, if you're the owner of a 2009 to 2014 F-150, no matter what your trim is, and you're interested in picking up a side step for your F-150 with an OEM styling, something that doesn't stray too far from the factory option there, but you still want that aid to help you get in and out of the truck, you might wanna check out the Barricade 4-inch Oval Straight Side Step in the gloss black finish, which is available right here at americanmuscle.com.
