Hey, guys. It's Sara with americantrucks.com. And today, we have a review and install of the BAK Industries BAKFlip G2 Tri-Fold Tonneau Cover, fitting the 2014 through 2018 Chevy Silverado 1500. This tonneau features a sleek low profile design finished in a gloss black powder coat that looks great installed on your truck. This cover is constructed from aircraft grade aluminum featuring EPDM seals, it sturdy and it'll keep out the weather. Because of its construction, this tonneau is gonna give you superior protection from would-be thieves, unlike some soft covers. However, this one will still fold up all the way giving you full access to your bed. Because of its clamp-on design, I'm giving this install a one out of three ranches on the difficulty meter, it does go in fairly easy in approximately one hour. I think the longest part of this install is adjusting the cover and getting it to sit right where you want it on the truck. Coming in at around $900, this cover is a little bit on the higher end of the spectrum, however, you are getting the great looks of a low profile design, you are getting more security than a soft cover will give you, an ease of install and the speed of folding and unfolding your cover, so you do get a lot of bang for your buck. Another added feature of this cover is that it will hold up to 300 pounds because of its sturdy aircraft aluminum construction. For this install, you will need a 3/8 drive ratchet, 14-millimeter socket, and a Phillips head screwdriver. Okay, so the first step in our install is going to be to grab your passenger side bed rail, it's gonna be the one with the silver bracket facing inward. Also, this little arm is facing inward as well and it's gonna have a little bit of weatherstripping on the outside that's gonna sit just right on the top of your bed here. So go ahead and line it up. Probably helpful to have your bed closed for this if you can't really get it situated but it can also be open. And you're can grab your first clamp and place it right about here. The guide says six to nine inches away from the front of your bed. After we grab our clamp, you want to make sure that it's aligned with that tab in the bottom right there and then all the way loose so that it can slide right up all the way up on your bed rail. Okay, now that our clamp is on and positioned all the way up in the bed rail, should hold it right up there to keep it aligned when you're tightening it down. Grab your 14-millimeter and tighten it down just snug enough so we can still align it later, but tight enough that it doesn't fall off. Now once your bracket is a secure up front, you're gonna grab your second one and try to go as center as possible. Might be a little difficult with this part of the bed but I want to go like snug right there, should be fine. Push all the way up so it's nice and tight against our bed rail. Grab your 14-millimeter and go ahead and snug this one up as well. And finally, we're gonna move to the very back. Okay, then we're going to grab our third and final clamp and we want to try to get it as far back as possible, probably right in here. Nice and snug. Grab your 14-millimeter and tighten this one down as well. Again, we want to keep it snug because we do want to shut the bed and ensure that we have the proper distance on here. If there's not, we can loosen them a little bit, sort of adjust it, get it where it needs to sit. Okay, now we're gonna grab our driver side rail and place it on top of the bed and tighten down each bracket, same way as the other side. Once we have our rail lined up on the bed, grab the first bracket, about six to nine inches from the front. I like it in this first cubby, think it works best there. Make sure our rail is secure. And then again we're just going to snug these just in case we need to adjust them later. Second bracket as centered as possible, likely the best spot is right after the wheel well, lining it up, snugging it down. Okay, third and final bracket in place towards the back of the bed. Ensure the bracket is all the way up touching the top of the rail and snug it down. Once both of the rails are installed on the bed of the truck, we just want to double check that this tailgate will close without any issues that's why we left them loose. So I recommend shutting it gently but strongly. All right, looks like we're good to go. We're just gonna go ahead and tighten down those six brackets and move on to the next step. Okay, next step is gonna be to get this in place on your truck. You can do this by yourself but it is a lot easier, so we're gonna grab a buddy and get it in place. Okay, so now once we have this cover sort of in the neighborhood of where it needs to be on the truck, we want to flip out this small piece towards the front because this is the most important part about lining it up. You want the edge of this cover to sit right over the edge of your truck bed, this weatherstripping to be on top. So once we have that in place, we can start to put our hardware in here and attach it to the front of your truck. The next step you're going to need the threaded rivets and the included screws that they gave you in the hardware kit and you're also gonna need this buckle mount. So these you're going to start with the threaded rivets through the back of your cover in the up position. Then you're gonna want to line your bracket on the other side and thread your screws in. Grab your screwdriver and go ahead and tighten those up. Okay, we're gonna do the same thing on the other side, threaded rivets in the back. They might have a little trouble going in because there is still a little bit of metal in these holes but if you get them most of the way you should be fine. Line up our bracket and then go ahead and get our screws in there. Okay. So the next step we're gonna grab the three small pieces of weatherstripping that are included with your hardware and you're gonna want to attach them to this piece of your tonneau cover so that when you open it just in case there's an added level of protection so it doesn't hit the back of your truck. So we're gonna peel the 3M adhesive off that. It's not super important where these go, they don't need to be exactly centered just as long as they're on there just to sort of give it a little buffer. Okay. So next step you're going to want some grab your larger hardware with this piece, this is gonna attach your tonneau cover to the front of your bed. You want to take the...one of the rubber washers and this bolt and go through the open hole. As you can see with the bracket, there's quite a bit of adjustability here so in case you need to make any changes later with fitment, you definitely have that room. We're gonna want to make sure this goes through the bracket and then we're going to attach it from the other side. Okay, with our cover flipped up, we want to grab the rest of the hardware and attach it. You're gonna want to go with your rubber washer then your flat washer and finally the lock washer. So once you have those lined up and over your bolts, grab the knob and just tighten it loosely on here. Okay, so you want to tighten this loosely at first and we can tighten it down harder later. Okay, we're gonna go ahead and put our bolt through the other side, make sure it's lined up with our bracket. And then we take our hardware, rubber washer, flat washer, lock washer over the end of our bolts and grab our knob and go ahead and get it started on that bolt. Again, we want to leave this kind of loose just for adjustability and we can always tighten it down by hand later. Another great feature of this cover is that it does come with these handy kickstands. They store away when your cover is flipped down but when it's up in this position and you're working in the bed and you're afraid of this coming down, you just pop these up, put them up against here, tighten them down and now your bed will not come forward while you're working in it. Now we're ready to close our tonneau cover, and ensure that the fitment is correct before we tighten down the knobs up front. You do want to make sure that your tailgate is shut before you do this. Great thing about this cover is that each section latches so you can operate it like this because it is latched down to your bed. With our cover fully folded out, we can just open the bed and double check that everything is latched where it should be. Now that we're sure that everything is in place and fits properly, we want to roll this tonneau cover back up and tighten down those knobs up front and we're all done. There are cables at each latching point which loosens this cover back up. Our knobs are right under here and they were done loosely, we want to just make sure that we're tightening them down nice and snug so that this cover does not move and still functions the way we just had it settled. Once this knob is tight, we're gonna do the same thing to the other side. All right, guys, so that is going to do it for the review and install of our BAK Industries Tonneau Cover. For all things Chevy, make sure you keep it at americantrucks.com.
