      Video Review & Installation

If you're looking for affordable under-seat storage for your 2015 and newer F150 with a cool little feature built-in, then you'll have to check out the Alterum two-piece options shown here in black. Now, the Alterum kit will help keep those miscellaneous items from rolling around the floor of your rig and will pack a very durable ABS plastic build for that low to mid $100 price point. Install is gonna get a very soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter here, guys, taking you maybe 30 minutes of your time to complete from start to finish. But if you hang with me for a bit, we'll walk you through that job later in the video. So, if you guys are like me, then chances are you have a little bit of everything underneath that rear seat of your 2015 and newer F150, maybe some recovery gear, some cleaning items, and maybe even a few tools. Now, luckily Ford does include that little tiny space underneath the rear seats to be used as storage, but honestly, that fills up pretty quickly. And at that point, you're either looking for other storage options or just kind of letting it roll around the backseat, rear floor, or bed of your truck. And that's where the Alterum here is going to come in, it's a great solution to adding more storage space to the cab of your truck, it will do so in a very low-key way out of sight. And more importantly, without interfering with the foot space for the rear passengers in your truck. Now, unlike other options on the site, the Alterum is gonna feature a two-piece design, that's something I really dig and I'll show you why in a second. And another thing I really like is that it's going to mount using the included hardware and not stretched. Again, it just feels a little bit more sturdy that way and isn't gonna really slide around on you, for lack of a better word. Boxes are gonna be made from durable ABS plastic here, guys. And it is compatible with all trim level trucks even including the Raptor and can still be used in conjunction with or without a factory subwoofer. Now, that little bonus I talked about earlier, something I really do like about this particular kit is that yes, the two-piece design is in place, but the way the hardware allows you to mount the box, it mounts the smaller one with L-bracket so you can easily remove this box, and look at this, you got little nifty handles here. You can just kind of take this wherever you want. If you need to grab something and go, you can use that as a little basket. So, again, not the craziest feature ever but it's just the little things with something like this that I really like to point out. And it's something that's definitely gonna be different from a majority of your under-seat storage options currently on the site. But what do you say we segue into the install, give you a better idea of just how both of these will mount in the rear of your truck. So, without further ado, check out our detailed walkthrough and tool breakdown right now. Tools used for this installation include a 1/4-inch ratchet, small extension, 10-millimeter socket, and an 8-millimeter socket. All right, guys, getting started here with our seat storage install, very simple job again, really all you need is a 10-millimeter socket and wrench. We're gonna start with a smaller portion which is gonna go underneath the smaller portion of your rear seat. They do include some brackets here that we need to get in place and then the removal basket will actually sit in these brackets. So, let's go ahead and get these guys in place first. All right, guys, you see you've got a power inverter right here, this kit will work with or without one of these. So, if you have either one, don't worry. And as far as your holes, well, we're gonna be concerned with the middle hole on both sides of your brackets. We're gonna use the included hardware, we have the short black bolt here with a washer, slide it through, get a bracket in place. Go ahead and just finger-tight for now. We'll come back and tighten this up once we have our height determined because this is a slotted hole. Now, we're just gonna repeat that process or in this hole again, pay no attention to the upper and lower holes. We're gonna go with the large one right in the middle, get our bolt through in our bracket, get our bracket in place. Snug it up with your fingers, go ahead and grab your basket because now we're gonna determine the proper height for these brackets. All right, guys, now that we have our brackets in place, we have our basket here. Again, we have these two tabs that you're going to insert into the included brackets. What I'm gonna do now is basically just kind of get them in place. With the bracket still a little loose, get our height perfect. So, you want this to sit on the ground, just so it doesn't really move around on you too much. Then once you basically have it situated, we'll pull it back out, make sure these brackets are still kind of in place. And we'll go ahead and tighten them down with our 10-millimeter socket. And repeat that process here on the other side. You don't have to go crazy with tightening these down, just snug them up. With both brackets tightened down, we can go ahead and install our basket here. All right, next step, we're gonna move over to our longer box area here. Now, in order to get it installed, we do have to remove the four 8-millimeter bolts in this area because this is where the bolts are going to attach or insert into. So, got our 8-millimeter socket, go ahead and remove these first. So, our last bolt comes out here, this panel will wanna fall down on you just so make sure it doesn't go too far, and we will leave this in place with our storage bin.Next step, we're going to install our longer box here. Now, this is nice because we have these little pegs. They're gonna fit in these four recessed areas with the factory panel. So, go ahead and insert that in on both sides, line up your hole and install your bolt. Now, these holes are threaded, so just go ahead and get them started and use your 10-millimeter socket to tighten everything down. Get it started loosely for now so you can have some play in it just to help you line up the rest of your holes. All right, with those two bolts loosely started, we're gonna repeat that process and the other side. Again, just it might take a little movement there but you'll get the hole started or bolt started, upper and lower. With all four bolts started, go ahead and grab your 10-millimeter socket and tighten everything up.All right, with that final bolt tightened up, that's gonna wrap up our easy install of Alterum's Under Seat Storage Solution, available for your 2015 and newer SuperCrew and SuperCab F150 at home. Hey, guys, we hope you enjoyed this review and install, and as always keep in mind for more cool products in videos like this, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
