    Review & Installation Video

The Smart Port Supersonic Blow-off Valve here from Turbosmart is available for any '13 or newer 3.5 EcoBoost owner who might be looking to increase their boost levels for a higher performance either up to or past 30 psi, since the factory blow-off valve really can't handle much more than it already does now. Now with that said, if you're looking to increase your boost levels for a better performance, you'll also pick up a better throttle response with this option, and maybe even a small increase in fuel economy. Now as far as installation goes, we'll be talking about that later on, but I'll tell you upfront here, it'll get a very simple one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter, even though you will have to remove your factory inner core. But honestly, it's detailed all in the instruction manual. In a nutshell, for basically the guys out there who are new to Turbos and don't really understand a blow-off valve, this will basically release excess boost that builds up in your intake and blow it off when you release the throttle. Now the factory one can really only hold so much, which is basically the 12 or 14 psi that it comes with. This will hold up to or even past 30 psi without cracking or leaking. As opposed to the factory electronic valve, this blow-off valve from TurboSmart utilizes a Smart Port technology, which basically handles your boost quicker. Now, this particular tech refers to the manufacturing process that uses all aircraft-grade aluminum alloys and specialized coatings to make the piston lighter and faster for what TurboSmart calls "razor sharp valve responses." The use of a soft spring and the body of the blow-off valve will increase the valve speeds, but more importantly, prevent any compression surge, which can inhibit its performance. It also prevents any premature venting of the added boost, which increases performance of the dry fire wire, better known as the throttle response. You'll notice on the top of the blow-off valve, there's a dial for softer or harder tuning, which basically refers to the internal spring of the blow-off valve. Softness or hardness obviously depends on the amount of boost pressure you're running. If you have high boost and don't have the proper amount of hardness, it can definitely lead to valve leakage. So you wanna mess around net with that and obviously speak with your tuner, depending on how much boost you're running at the time.As you can probably already deduce from this particular technology, TurboSmart has us at the premium end of the spectrum now. Currently, there are only two options on the site for your 3.5 EcoBoost of this generation. So this is gonna be the more technologically advanced option, coming in just north of the $300 mark. So something to keep in mind when you're shopping around. As far as the installation is concerned, as I mentioned earlier, I am giving it a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Now, this isn't the most difficult install but it does require you to remove the inner cooler. However, the instruction manual provided for you in the kit should take you along your way. And it even includes an install DVD which is also in the box for you. With that said, you should have a ratchet and socket set on deck with about two hours worth of time in the driveway at home.First thing you wanna do is remove the factory map sensor, which is attached to the intake plenum with a single bolt. From there, you'll have to assemble the new map sensor adaptor and install it to the intake plenum, making sure the O-ring is secure. Once you plug in the map sensor back into the new adapter we installed in the plenum, you'll have to remove the undertray underneath the truck by pulling off the pushpins holding that together. From there, it's just a matter of removing the OEM blow-off valve plug and then removing the bolts holding the cross member on it to gain access to the inner cooler. You'll have to remove the OEM blow-off valve chamber from the OEM plumb back hose, replace it with the one in the kit, and blank off the plug. Once that's taken care of, you can drop off the inner cooler and remove the factory blow-off valve by the two bolts holding it to the chamber. Install the inner cooler adapter plug, making sure the O-ring is secured, and then the L bracket comes next without over-tightening.Finally, the TurboSmart Smart Port Supersonic Blow-off Valve, using the V clamp, install all of that. And before reinstallation of everything we've taken off during this process, you wanna make sure you're blanking off the OEM blow-off valve plug. Once that's taken care of, you can start to reinstall everything, making sure that you have the inner cooler bolted up properly, the cross member that we took off to gain access to it, and then the undertray putting up those pushpins. From there, you're good to go.Just to wrap things up, if you're the owner of a 2013 or newer 3.5 EcoBoost-powered F-150, you might wanna check out the TurboSmart Smart Port Supersonic Blow-off Valve. If you're thinking about going upwards of 30 psi or more, you can find it right here at www.americantrucks.com.

    Description

Allows for Higher Boost. The stock factory blow-off valve (BOV) is fine for the daily driven F-150, but if you are planning on increasing the performance and boost of your 3.5L EcoBoost truck, you are going to need a Turbosmart Smart Port Supersonic Blow Off Valve that is capable of handling the extra boost pressure - up to 30psi.

Vacuum Activated. Unlike the factory Ford blow-off valve that is electronically controlled by the ECU, the intercooler-mounted Turbosmart Smart Port Supersonic Blow Off Valve is mechanically operated by vacuum for consistent manifold pressure that helps keep your turbo spooled for better throttle response.

Quality Construction. Constructed from aircraft grade aluminum alloy with a black anodized cap for durability and strength, this Turbosmart Smart Port Supersonic Blow Off Valve features a piston that was manufactured using specialized alloys and coatings that results in a lighter, faster moving piston, which is then perfectly matched with a soft spring in the body of the BOV allowing for razor sharp valve response.

Application. The Turbosmart Smart Port Supersonic Blow Off Valve is designed for use on the 2013 to 2014 F-150s equipped with the 3.5L EcoBoost V6 engine.

2018 F150 3.5 Ecoboost, claimed it was a direct bolt on, and that it was. Literally didn't have to alter ANYTHING!! Sounds good and fit great!

      1 2016 Limited - Vince35EBL Installation Time: Less than 1 Hour

      Took too long to install

I entered my truck information and the website says it will fit. I get the product and couldn’t get to a garage until two weeks ago. Well this product doesn’t fit and I had to order another piece on top of the cost for the blowoff valve. I installed this and the air intake and my check engine light came on. I look at AT install wrong. Turbotronics website has the correct install on the same year truck. Turns out needed another piece thinking it would help but no check engine light still remains on. I was going to try one more thing before returning but it looks like I’m stuck with BOV that doesn’t work. To not give the wrong idea it works but my truck will not pass emissions with this BOV.

      Cool i guess!

Don't like the woosh, so I ended up getting a mod to make this a bypass valve much like the stock setup, installed on a full race inter-cooler. Still wooshes a little bit so i guess that'll be alright. Only took a bit longer to install because i had to go to the store and find a hose when I installed it as a bypass valve. Actual install was easy peasy

      Psssst

If U own 2013-16 this thing works great , makes lots of sound but 2017-19 they changed design where waccum for bov is shared with Evan system and simply instead opening bov pulls air from evap and instead getting wushhhhhh u will get pssst and u can bearly hear bov, not worth 300$, going back to original setup.

      Best aftermarket bov

Sounds amazing paired with the vortech intercooler. Has a way better spool when boosting and amazing blow off when you let off. Very happy with this purchase. Easy to install especially on the vortech intercooler. Only difference is on the factory you turn it on the intercooler clockwise and on the vortech you turn it counterclockwise to install.

Will the check engine light turn on with this upgrade?

    • The Turbosmart Smart Port Supersonic BOV will vent all of the metered air into the atmosphere, thus the vehicle is likely to run rich as the engine is expecting more air molecules but is actually receiving less than accounted for. With any vent-to-atmosphere blow off valve, we would highly recommend a tune/calibration to correct this issue.

I looked at these on ebay. They stated that it does not fit a 2018 3.5 ecoboost in a limited. I would like one for my truck. I will buy one if you confirm that it will fit a 2018 f150 limited with a 3.5 ecoboost. Thank you, JOhn
