Review & Install Video
So Smittybilt's nerf steps we're taking a quick look at today are going to be a great option for my newer F-150 owners out there that are looking to pick up a very aggressive and unique-looking side step. It's going to help you get in and out of your truck a little bit better than what you may have found coming on it from the factory, and especially for those guys either running a small leveling kit or even a lift kit. Now, whether your truck was optioned with a set of steps from the factory or dealership or not, something I really like about this set is the fact that they do have that unique design. Again, that's going to be that drop-down and hooped [forward] step right here, compared to your other running boards or side steps. Now, additionally, these are going to install with little to no effort at all. That's no drilling, no modifying your truck. For that, that's going to catch a very easy one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter here, about an hour's worth of wrenching. I'm going to have more for you coming up on that later. Moreover, aside from the great looks here, from a utilitarian perspective, if you're going to be doing some light to even moderate off-roading and you are running a lifted rig, these are going to be ideal. Because they're going to hug that rocker panel that much better than you'd find with factory equipment or another style out there. Now, looks aside, Smittybilt is going to have these manufactured out of a 304-stainless steel. That's typically not the norm when it comes to side steps or running boards, because that material is going to be that much stronger than a 409, and you will see the price be directly related. Now, these are going to have a 3-inch diameter, as well as a 3/16-inch thickness. But the main point I want to drive home here, guys, is that these don't look like every other set of running boards or side steps out there, again, due to that unique design. It's going to hug that rocker panel and, ultimately, it's just going to make it easier to get in and out of your truck. These are then going to get completed in a really tough-looking, black, powder-coated finish. That's going to be able to resist anything you're putting your truck through, either on or off-road. That's typically the norm here, guys. But if you're looking for something a little bit flashier, you're going to have a ton of polished or chrome-looking options [inaudible] on the website. Now, that added size, design, and quality materials is going to come at a premium here. You should expect to be spending about $390 to $410 to get these onto your truck. I know it sounds like it's a little bit high. But take into consideration that 304-stainless is going to be able to resist rust or any type of deterioration over time that much better, compared to other styles. Now, the great thing about side steps, nerf bars, or running boards, they're going to install with little to no effort at all. For that, it's going to pick up an easy one out of three wrenches on my difficulty meter here. Expect to be wrenching for about an hour. Now, getting these on here only is going to require a basic socket set. But due to the size and just how long they are, I might suggest getting a second set of hands. But to start, you're simply going to line these up underneath your factory rocker panel. You're going to want to work in a couple of your carriage bolts on one end, work them through on the other side, get all of your other hardware, tighten these things down, repeat the process on the opposite side, and that's going to conclude the installation. So that's going to wrap up my quick review of Smittybilt's nerf steps in gloss black, fitting your '04 through '14 F-150 that can be found right here at americantrucks.com.
