Hey guys, Adam here with americantrucks.com. And today we're taking a very close look at and installing the Tri-fold Hard Tonneau Cover available for the 2014 to 2018 Silverado 1500 with the standard box. Right off the top here guys, if you don't have a standard box, this is available for short box models and extended box models but we have a 2014 standard box in the shop today. You should be checking this out if you're looking for a durable hard tri-fold tonneau cover to protect your cargo, open in three sets of increments and also give you some better weather and theft protection. Now this tonneau cover category is absolutely saturated with different designs, brands, models, so on and so forth. So it can be hard to narrow down what you're looking for. Tri-folds are for guys who are looking for a cover that gives you access to your bed in sections. Perfect for if you're hauling different size cargo, something as thin and tall as a dresser or as large as a sofa. This guy will protect your cargo from the elements. It's got weather channels all along the bed rails and the hard tri-fold tonneau cover is gonna be better for theft prevention. This guy uses a black powder coated aluminum top along with heavy-duty support rails that are metal, and a fiberglass reinforced polymer, and polypropylene material. In other words, it's a very sturdy, very durable material. A little bit higher-end than some of the other more entry-level tri-folds in the category. Definitely more durable and sturdy than some of the roll-up or soft vinyl materials. So if theft is something you're worried about, this is gonna be a great way to go. Now the nice thing about this is it is extremely easy to use, and super easy to install. Some of the tonneau covers in the category include separate bed rails that you have to clamp down first along with some of the other channeling that you have to install for weatherstripping and then finally the tonneau cover. This guy's all one piece out of the box. Ready to drop on. All you have to do is install the clamps and snap them down. I wanna walk you guys through the demo process on how it actually operates. Step number one, of course, unlock and drop your tailgate. You do have to go from one side to the other to unlatch it, but starting on our passenger side, unlatch and you can come up here and tuck up that latch so it hugs it snug. Repeat that on the other side. From there, you can lift up and fold back that first fold. Now we do have to go underneath and unlatch it again in order to get it to fold up. So you can reach your hand in here. Do the same thing. Repeat that on the other side.Keep in mind that because this does latch, you can drive with this open like this but it's recommended to go all the way back so you can really secure it with the snaps to make it 100% safe. All right. From there, go back one more time. Once that's folded like that, you can grab these snaps and click them in place. Tighten that up and this is secure. Same thing on the other side. All right. So you just bring that back, snap that in place and pull the cord so it's nice and tight. Now the price tag for this one's gonna come in right around 650 bucks. It's gonna be for the guys looking to spend a little bit more money on a higher-end model. Now, this one I will say is not a low profile tonneau cover. There are some low profile ones that sit flush with your bed. This one comes up about an inch to an inch and a quarter. So if you don't mind the bulkier look, this is gonna be a great way to go. Some of the low profile ones can be a little bit more expensive because it gives you that sleeker profile but this one keeps the price at right around $650. Install, I'm giving one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. It'll take you about 20 minutes or so from start to finish to tackle it and really, you don't even need any hand tools. All of the hardware included in the kit allows you to just snap it into place. One caveat to that install I wanna mention here is that if you have factory plastic bed caps on the rails here that are a little bit thicker, you may need to trim them a bit to get the clamps to seat properly and that's something that I'll talk about a little bit later on the install when we get to that portion. Now I'm gonna walk you through the entire process and even show you guys how the tonneau cover operates. So let's get started. All right. With the helping hand of a friend, lift the heavy tonneau cover into place on the bulkhead, evenly distributed across both rails. This is one of the heavier tonneaus so having a helping hand goes a long way. Next up here, we wanna make sure that once we have the tonneau cover opened, that we remove the label and the packing rubber in the snap hole. Now at the bulkhead right below our windshield, there are these two little mounting points underneath of the windshield here where you snap the cover open to keep it secured. You wanna remove the packing tape. Set that aside. And then there's a little rubber block filling that in. Grab some needle-nose pliers or something similar and pop that guy out. All right. So I like to use a needle-nose because they are tucked in there pretty tight. Just get a little grip on there and you can pull it off.All right. Just like that. Same thing on the other side. You wanna start unfolding the tonneau cover carefully just to check the alignment that it's in the correct positioning on both sides and then it's even and then it falls where you want it to at the tailgate. You want it to be about a quarter-inch away from the edge here. Make sure it's even on both sides. If yours is not, make the adjustments that you need to. Once you like the position, carefully fold it back up without moving it at all to keep it in that correct position. We're gonna go all the way back to the bulkhead and start securing it. All right. So at this point, I'm underneath the tonneau cover on our driver's side. You wanna take a look at this rod here that slides back and forth. Grab the hook that will latch underneath of the side bed rail and you're gonna thread that guy onto the rod. All right. So just insert that and spin it all the way up to the point that it's even with that side bed rail. So you wanna be able to tuck it underneath like that. Next, grab the hand knob, thread that in, and that's gonna help secure this to the side of the bed. So twist that all the way up until it's nice and snug up against the bed rail. All right. You wanna give it a push to make sure it's not jumping up and repeat that on the other side. All right. Next up, we wanna unfold the tonneau cover one more time and we're basically gonna do the same thing but with a longer buckle here. We're gonna crawl back underneath and there's a couple of rods just like this one here underneath. So let's curl under and do that. Next up, you wanna take this buckle, there's a latch, and you wanna align it so that the threaded holes on the inside and the open hole at the top are aligned, and insert it through that rod and spin it just like we did the first one. I'm just gonna rotate this until it lines up. Once you have that tightened down so that it lines up with the bed cap, keep in mind that if your bed cap plastic is a little bit thicker, you may need to trim a little notch in order to get this to hug snugly up against the inside there, but from there, you wanna hook it around the back and clamp it down so it's secure. And again, lift up like we did before to make sure it's tight. Repeat that on the other side. So we basically have to do that one more time. From the outside of the truck, I'm gonna fold this guy out and now you can reach in and do it to the final latch. All right. From the outside, hook this guy on just like you did the last one and thread it through. Bring it over to the side of the bed and latch it on. Same thing on the other side. That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Tri-fold Hard Tonneau Cover available for the '14 to '18 Silverado 1500 with the standard box. Get yours right here at americantrucks.com.
