    Review & Install Video

The Recon illuminated two-piece emblem kit in black is available for any 2009 to 2014 F-150 owner who's looking to add a small but extremely noticeable detail to the sides of their truck, or replacing the factory emblem badge with a stealthy black option when off, but a bright and unique option when lit in the color of your choice. This will get a harder one outta three wrenches on our difficulty meter. The installation will be talked about a little more toward the end of the video. There's a little bit of wiring involved, but overall it shouldn't be too bad to tackle in your driveway. Now the factory F-150 emblem badge was designed pretty well, in my personal opinion. It's got the detail to make it stand out, but if you're looking to make your truck more visible at night, or if you just wanna add a more stylish noticeable illuminated version of the same badge, this is gonna be the better option for you. The cool thing about the illuminated badge here from Recon is that whether the lights are on or off, it's still pretty different from the factory option. When the lights are off, you get a black edging, obviously with the negative space being in black, but the F-150 logo itself is gonna be in a translucent white. And when you flip the switch on to the color of your choice, because there are three adjustable colors that you can change on the fly, you're essentially getting four for the price of one. You get it off, and it's completely different, and then you have three more colors to choose from after that. As you can see, we have this hooked up to a battery pack here under the table today, so I can show you what the color differences are on the fly. Obviously, it starts off, when you turn it on, at amber, but you can change it over to white, back to amber, and then over to red. Obviously, those are very different colors, and they're extremely bright as well. Now the camera might not be picking up the greatest amount of color here, but in person I can tell you it's a little bit blinding. This thing is great for the guys out there going a lotta off-roading and are looking to stay a lot more visible at night, and the guys just really looking to stand out because this definitely gets the job done in that sense. Now what I would suggest doing is wiring this up to your dashboard, so you can easily get this switch into your hands without going too far out of the driver's position. You obviously wanna make sure that you're staying safe while on the road. One of the cool things about the couple different colors is that the amber will blend in a lot with your turn signals and your parking lights on the front end of your truck. You can switch it over to white if you have those bright LED or HID lights because this blends in with that, matches perfectly. And then the red of course, matches very well with your taillight section when you're hitting your brake lights, or if you're lights are on at night. So each one of these color options will blend in with factory options on the truck, so you're not straying too far from the stock colors. The kit itself comes in a two piece set, one for each side. I only have one on the table with me today, but both sides are constructed out of OEM-quality materials, so you don't have to worry about losing the high-quality Ford stuff. It'll reuse your factory mounting positions, so no drilling or cutting involved, and our customers have even thrown up some reviews on the site confirming the easy installation. Bright illumination and great construction, which you can read for yourself on the product page, are definitely something to boast about this because for the price you're paying for this one, you're obviously getting a huge value in both styling and appearance, and construction as well. Now with all that in mind, if this does interest you, you can pick up this with the 3 different color options built in to the 1 remote here for just about 250 bucks. This is definitely on the higher end of the spectrum, but again that is to be expected with the illumination changes, the construction, and the easy installation.Speaking of the installation, I am still giving this one outta three wrenches on our difficulty meter simply because the wiring is a little bit more involved, but it's still a direct bolt-on, really not too much going on here. The hardest part in my personal opinion's gonna be getting off the factory F-150 badges on each side. What I would suggest using is maybe a fishing line and a heat gun to kinda wire that off and remove all the adhesive that goes along with it. Once that's taken care of, this bolts right into the factory location using the stock hardware and all that good stuff. Feed the wiring into the engine bay and up the firewall. Bolt down the ground wire on the side of the firewall, and then the red wire, or your positive wire, to one of your lighting outputs, maybe the headlights or the dome lights, or whatever you choose to do there. Like I said earlier, I'd suggest having the remote in arm's reach on the dashboard side, just to make sure it can easily be touched without going too far out of the driving position, so you can switch between the different colors outputs pretty simply. That just about wraps things up here, so if you're the owner of a 2009 to 2014 F-150, you might wanna check out the Recon illuminated two-piece emblem kit with the amber, white, and red illumination, which you can find right here at americantrucks.com.

Hello, Where does this wire to? Also do I have to do any drilling to install these? Thank you.

    • These are recommended to be wired to the running lights, but you should be able to wire them to come one with other things (ie. headlights, ignition, a switch). Also, these do not require any modification to install aside from removing the old emblems and splicing the wires.

Looking to get F-150 logos that light up. The video said 2014, but what about 2016?

    • The Recon Illuminated F-150 Emblems are designed to fit all 2009-2014 Ford F-150s, Unfortunately at this time we do not have illuminated F-150 logos for the 15-18 models.

What is the amp draw of these? Planning on wiring to a switch.

    • Since this Recon Illuminated 2 Piece Emblem Kit uses LED lights, this would draw approximately one tenth of an amp. You would have no issues wiring these to a switch since most automotive switches are usually rated for 15 or more amps.

      Recon f150 badges

Lights look and perform better than expected. Super bright (especially white) and simple to install. Only issue I ran into was the wire coming out of the badges did not line up with the hole in my fender. So in order to have the badges mount flush with my fender, I had to make the hole in the fender slightly bigger! Also the factory badges are hard to remove due to the adhesive as well as removing what adhesive remained on the fender. Nonetheless easy job to do and they still keep that clean factory look. I get compliments on the badges constantly. Definitely a head turner!

      Nice addition

Well, having two STANGS and adding many aftermarket items on them from AM, I decided to add something to my F-150. One of the easiest installs, Install directions were ok, but used a YOUTUBE video and that made so much easier. Love the end product and have gotten many compliments!
