How to Install Putco Wheel-to-Wheel Boss Side Step Bars - Polished on your F-150

Tools Required
  • 3/4” Wrench
  • 9/16” Wrench
  • 3/4” Socket
  • 9/16” Socket
  • Ratchet or Impact Wrench

Please read all instructions before beginning installation and be sure to check to see that all part


Step 1: Remove the rubber seals that are inserted in the side of the body there are two per side. Shown in fig.1



Step 2: Insert the bolt plate where you removed rubber seal shown in figure 2. In order for the bolt plate to go in the slot you will need to turn the bolt plate so the bolts are facing upward. You will need to insert the bolt plates in all four slots.

Step 3: Place the front and rear brackets on the truck where you placed the bolt plates shown in figure 3 & 4.



Step 4: Install the bolt plate 1965 into the slot shown in figure 5.

Step 5: Attach the rear support strap to the bolt plate you installed in step 4 using the 3/8” washer, lock washer and nut. Then leaving everything loose attach the other end of the support strap to the rear bracket. In order to attach this bracket you will need to use the 3/4” bolt, washer, and lock washer to mount to the Boss Bar shown in figure 6. (Note: Prior to installing Boss Bars place the black caps on the end of the bars.)



Step 6: Attach the front support strap shown in figure 7 to the body of the truck. Note in the picture there is an arrow showing where you will need to place your 3/8” bolt with washer through the slot to attach the bracket from the body of the truck to the front bracket.

Step 7: Leaving everything loose attach the front support strap and Boss Bars to the main bracket by using the 3/4” bolt, washer and lock washer.

Step 8: When you have everything attached tighten the boss bars first. Then tighten the bolt plates that attach to the brackets, and finally tighten the support straps so your Boss Bar is attached to the truck shown in figure 8.


Step 9: You will need to repeat this procedure on the opposite side of the truck.

Note: PUTCO recommends applying a high quality automotive wax to maintain the original appearance on your new Boss Bars.
