If the factory brakes on your '97 to '03 F-150 are completely toast, it's probably time to start looking at a replacement or even possibly an upgrade like the Power Stop Z36 Truck & Tow Pad and Rotor Kit that we have here. Now this kit will include a brand new set of slotted and drilled rotors with your studs already in place, along with a brand new set of heavy-duty carbon-ceramic pads, all for just north of 100 bucks for the front setup. Installation, according to the site, will get a middle-of-the-road two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter, and a couple of hours to knock out from start to finish. So when upgrading the brakes on your rig, you do have a few different options to consider. Either go with a local parts store factory replacement, which will no doubt be the most affordable route. Your next step would be to check out something a little bit more aftermarket like a set of pads and rotors like the Power Stop kit that we have here, get a small upgrade in the process, while keeping that price tag pretty low overall. Your third and final option will no doubt be the most costly, and that is a complete hardware replacement, going with a big brake upgrade from companies either like Wilwood or Brembo to completely overhaul the brakes on your truck.Let's break down the Power Stop kit a little bit further, pun intended, and talk about what you are getting here and what you can expect. Now, the foundation of this kit is the company's cross-drilled and slotted C3000 rotors, which are cast iron and then finished off in a silver zinc coating to resist any rust over the years. Now, the slotted and drilled design is designed to help with cooling, which in turn will reduce some fade overall, especially when these puppies are working overtime to haul down a heavy load or a heavy tow. Plus, as an added bonus, they look pretty cool behind your favorite set of wheels. The second part of the equation here guys, are the Z36 heavy-duty carbon-ceramic pads. Now the Z36 is a unique pad compound built specifically for heavy-duty truck and SUV use, and, when combined with the included rotors here from Power Stop, will result in a roughly 20% increase in stopping power, according to Power Stop themselves. Now, along with a little bit more initial bite here with this pad compound, it's also gonna be a little bit more resistant to fade and heat. So again, that's going to be huge if you do a lot of hauling or a lot of towing and you definitely wanna stand on those brakes a little bit more than normal. Also, something to consider here guys, this might be beneficial to you if you've upgraded the size and diameter of your tires and wheels. Those things are a bit heavier and do result in a little bit more effort to come down to a complete stop. And the Power Stop Z36 pads do consist primarily of a ceramic construction, but with bits of carbon fiber baked in to strengthen that compound and add a little bit more of that initial bite that we just talked about. Now, Power Stop does claim these pads to be a low-dust formula, but my personal experiencewith a carbon-ceramic pad is that you are gonna experience at least a minor increase in dust over a factory style pad. However, that being said, these things should be completely noise-free during operation. Now as far as your installation is concerned, well, pads and rotors, let's be honest, are gonna be one of the basics of automotive wrenching. But, since there is a little bit of work involved, the site did kick this one up to a middle-of-the-road two out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and a couple of hours to knock out from start to finish. So, if you're looking to freshen up the front braking components on your '97 to '03 F-150 to better help with towing or hauling, bigger wheels and tires, or just for the upgrade by itself, then you wanna check out the Z36 kit from Power Stop right here at americantrucks.com.
