Hey, guys. It's Sara with americantrucks.com and todaywe have a review and install of the PowerStop OE Replacement Brake Pad and Rotor kitfor the front and rear, fitting your '14 through'18 Chevy Silverado 1500.This kit is perfect for those of you lookingfor a complete pad and rotor kit for the frontand rear and wanna save some money over purchasingdirect from the manufacturer. This kit was designed for daily driving andfeature Z16 ceramic brake pads with rust-resistantcast iron rotors for minimal dust and noise.Coming in at around $200, this kit is a budget-friendlyway to replace all of your pads and rotorsfor the front and the rear.So as far as install, I'm giving this one-twoout of three wrenches on the difficulty meter. It features a direct bolt up installationand can be done within two hours. For this install, we used a caliper tool, you can also use a C-clamp, 21-millimeterwrench, a T30 Torx socket, 13-millimeter socket,a swiveling 18-millimeter socket, a pair ofcutters, needle nose pliers, a small pry baror a large flathead, a small flathead. And impact guns are optional. You can also use ratchets. You may also want caliper hangers or a bungeecord to hanger caliper out of the way.All right, so the first step in our uninstallis to remove the caliper off of its bracket. We're gonna do this with a 19-millimeter socket.Remove the bolts at the bottom and the topof the caliper with your 19-millimeter.If this moves on the inside too much, youmay wanna grab a wrench just to hold thatin place. At this point, you can wiggle the caliperloose. If it doesn't wanna come loose, you can reachinto one of these holes with a pry bar ora flathead and just pry against in here toloosen it up.Grab a caliper hanger tool or a bungee cord, you just wanna take the weight off of theline so that's not hanging by this and hangit out of the way.Next up, remove the brake pads. You can just wiggle these out.You can use a small pry bar or a flatheadto just get these the rest of the way if they'renot wanting to come out nicely. All right. At this point, you're gonna grab an 18-millimetersocket and remove both the bolts holding inyour caliper bracket. You may need a swivel depending on the sizeof your gun.At this point, we do have to remove this T30Torx bolt.Using a T30 Torx socket, zip this out. Now, at this point, the rotor should be free. You may need to give it a couple whacks ifit's not.All right. Now that we have our factory pads and rotorsuninstalled, we can check them out side byside with the Power Stop pads and rotors. Now, as I've said before, these are a directOE replacement, so they're gonna be nearlyidentical to your factory setup. Now, it is worth noting that Power Stop doesmake several options for more performanceif that's what you're looking for, so definitelycheck those out on the site as well. But for now, let's hop right into our install. At this point, grab your new rotor, get itre-installed, grab the Torx bolt, get thatreinstalled as well. All right, so we just wanna take a look atthe caliper bracket before we get it re-installedon the truck.Just make sure that the sliders are functioning, they don't need extra grease, none of themare torn because if so, you would wanna replacethem at this time. Now, these brackets do look a little roughand they include new ones, so we're gonnaswap those over now.Using a small flathead, get behind this portionand just pry them loose. There should be clips on the side and theback.Once that's free, you can clean these up alittle bit if there's a lot of debris or rustin here and just line up your new clip andsnap them into place.Repeat that for the other side.Line up your caliper bracket with a knuckleon the truck.Grab your bolts and get them threaded in.Grab your 18-millimeter socket and tightenthese down. All right. Now we can get our brake pads installed. Now, before you do this, you do wanna puta little bit of grease up in the creviceson this clip here so the pad can slide backand forth. You also might wanna put a little bit of greaseon the back of the brake pad where it meetsthe piston of the caliper so there's no noisewhen it's braking.Since this is just for demonstration, we'regonna install them as it is.Make sure they're flush against the rotor. All right.Unhang your caliper and using the calipertool or you can use a C-clamp if you don'thave one of these, press in your calipers.Grab your caliper and line it up over thetop of your brake pads.Just double-check that you pushed in the pistonsenough that it will clear. You may need to push them in a little bitmore if they don't.Once you have them lined up, grab your factoryhardware and get it threaded in.Grab your 19-millimeter socket and we'll tightenthese down. Now, just keep in mind that if its insidespins, you may wanna grab a wrench to holdit in place. With everything in place, repeat that processon the other side. All right. So if you've not done brakes before, you willneed to remove these two metal retainers. These just go on from the factory to keepthe rotor in place while it's being assembled. And unfortunately, it's very difficult tosave these, so we're just gonna be cuttingthem off.So just keep that in mind when you go to installyour new rotor, throw a lug nut on there orsomething else, just to keep it in place, but cut and remove these. You might want a small flathead to get underthere just to bring it up off the rotor alittle. At this point, we're gonna remove the caliper. You need to do that with a 13-millimeter socketand you may also want a 21-millimeter wrenchto hold this portion in place while you loosenthis up.At this point, you can remove your caliperand hang it of the way using a hanger toolor a bungee cord, anything to just take thetension off of the brake line.At this point, you can wiggle the pads outof the bracket. You may want the help of a large flatheador pry bar just to get it out a little easier. At this point, we're gonna remove the caliperbracket by removing the two bolts holdingit in.Grab your 18-millimeter socket and let's getthis out.You may want a swivel depending on the sizeof your gun. With the caliper bracket out of the way, youcan grab the rotor and remove it off the truck. All right. So like our front caliper bracket, we're gonnadouble-check the sliders function here, seeif they need any grease.Just check for rips or tears in the bootshere and if you see anything wrong, you shouldaddress it at this time. And because these clips are looking a littlerough, we're gonna swap them out for the onesincluded in this kit.Using our flathead like before, pry theseclips off. And, again, depending on how this looks inhere, you might wanna get a wire brush andclean it out and replace it with your newclip. It should sit nice and snug in there. And repeat that on the other side. All right, so we're gonna hit this rotor withbrake clean before we get it installed.Because of the lip back here for the emergencybrake, wanna make sure we get that done beforebecause we can't do this once it's on thetruck. All right, lift your rotor into place onceit's cleaned and you wanna just place a lugnut on here just for safety since we did takethose clips off earlier so that it doesn'tfall off while we're getting our bracket installed.Lift the bracket in place over the rotorsand reinstall the factory hardware.Using your 18-millimeter socket, tighten thisdown. All right. Now we're gonna install the brake pads, sameas the front, we do wanna put a little bitof grease right in these sections here andyou also might wanna put a little on the backof this brake pad where it contacts the pistonand the caliper just to minimize on brakenoise.Go ahead and get them lined up.Let them sit right against the rotor. Now we're gonna grab the caliper and we willneed to push this piston back in a littlebit in order to clear the brake pads, theydo have quite a bit more meat on them thanthey did before.Once the piston is pushed in enough to clearthe paths, line it back up.All right, once the caliper is back in place, reinstall the bolts holding the caliper tothe bracket. These are the ones that go into the slider.Grab your 13-millimeter socket and you mayneed this 21-millimeter wrench to hold thisstill as you tighten it down. Now you wanna repeat that process on the otherside. All right. That's gonna do it for the review and installof our pads and rotors.Remember for all things Silverado, keep itat americantrucks.com.
