Hey guys, Adam here with americantrucks.com. Today we're taking a closer look at and installing the Morimoto XB LED Tail Lights in the smoked finish, available for the 2015 to 2017 F-150 without the BLIS system. Now, if you're the owner of that F-150 and you're looking to completely differentiate the rear end of your truck from pretty much every other F-150 of your gen on the road, I can't think of a better way to do so than the Morimoto tail lights you see here. These are completely 100% different in every way from your factory tail lights with the exception of the quality of construction. These are made from an injection molded ABS housing, which means it's impact resistant and it's pretty much the same as your factory ones. You get a high intensity polycarbonate lens here, but it is smoked. So what that basically gives you is a nice stealthy finish at the rear end. But the internals here and the technology is completely state of the art. You have really bright LEDs. You have LED running lights and a vortex design going inside giving you that 3D tunneling look. Now, listen, I know this isn't gonna be for everyone out there. But if you're looking to differentiate your tail lights and you're not really into something this crazy and off the wall, there are other options out there in the category. But if you wanna go crazy and you wanna go super different, and you're looking to just, you know, stand out from the pack, this is a great way to do so.In addition to the upper and lower portions with that tunneling effect, you have lighting on the side as you see here with your tail lights on. Your parking lights and running lights also have that nice effect, that accent lighting rather. The interior housing is also blacked out. So you really just have the most stealth you can get from a tail light in this one package. Now, the whole kit comes in just under the $500 mark, making it a pretty affordable rear end mod. Listen, I know a lot of headlights, especially when it comes to state of the art LED technology, they typically go around 600 bucks, maybe even a little more rounding up to about 800. So, a little under 500, call it 475-ish is definitely really easy on your wallet for such an impactful mod. Now, the install is gonna get one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. It literally couldn't get any easier than just two 8-millimeter bolts, pop them out, unplug the harness and plug in your new plug-and-play harness on the back end of the Morimotos. Simply put, no splicing, no cutting, no nonsense, super easy. You'll get it done in about 30 minutes from start to finish. I'm gonna show you guys how it's done. Let's get to it. Tools used in this install include an impact gun or a ratchet, an 8-millimeter socket. Guys, the first step here, of course, drop your tailgate and we'll get to work taking the tail lights off. So once you get this down, you're gonna grab an 8-millimeter socket, remove the two bolts holding on your factory tail light. We'll pop it out of place and disconnect it. You wanna hold on to the factory hardware because you will reuse them. From here, I know it feels tight, you're really just gonna pry out from the inside and disconnect. Now, at this point, we wanna disconnect the factory bulbs from the wiring harness. And, look, as you saw, I just twisted the whole bulb out of the housing. You can, of course, disconnect the harness while the bulb is still in the factory housing. But, you know, sometimes after a couple of years, they get a little crusted and you need just a little bit more flexibility. So I like to take the whole bulb out. At that point, you're gonna pinch and pull. If you are struggling with that, you can take a really small flathead screwdriver and go inside here to pry up on this tab and disconnect. So we got our factory tail light off of our 2015 here. And as you can see, I wanna take a look at these two side by side. We have the Morimoto and the factory one from our passenger side. Now, you can tell these are complete night and day differences between the two. There isn't a single thing about these that are similar. They're different in every way, shape, and form. So, this really goes to show that you're completely changing the rear end look. You're going from that factory traditional style tail light with a lot of red reflective chrome inside of the housing, clear lens, pretty boring, honestly. And look, it does the job, right? But if you're looking to change up that appearance and get something a little more high powered and modernized, you're getting black interior housing injection molded housing here which is basically the same OEM quality materials, so you're not losing quality there. You're also getting that polycarbonate lens with that smoked look. Now, that's giving you a nice stealthy appearance, which, of course, you know, some guys might love some guys might not like, some guys might like that traditional clear look. If that's the case, they do have this particular headlight in a clear option as well so you're not getting that smoked out look. But, I will say, the smoked look does not interfere with any lighting output because you get high powered LEDs in that vortex styling. Now that is creating a tunnel 3D effect into the light here, which is pretty trippy, honestly. When you see the tail lights come on, which you have here in the video, you'll see that it really just has that inception kind of feel. Of course, that includes the LED running light around each of the top and bottom for high and low. You get reflectors and lighting on the side. So really, there is just no shortage of accent lighting on these tail lights, not something you can say for the factory options with the halogen bulbs. So, big upgrade in not only LED, but also design and appearance if you're looking for the modernized styling. So, I wanna show you guys how it gets installed. And it's worth noting that on the backside here, very different as well but still plug and play. So, no splicing at all is required. We have the resistor on that. You don't need to worry about that. You're just getting two plugs, of course, parking lights, tail lights type of deal. They'll go right into the factory harness. So, what do you say we set this aside and get to work?So once you grab your Morimoto tail light, you're basically gonna take the harness on the back end here and just match up which one matches up. From there, just snap them into place. You'll hear the click. From there, you can tuck the wiring into the truck and mount the tail light. We're gonna line up the back portion, just snap it in, take your factory bolts, go right in by hand, and tighten them down. All right, now you could just repeat on the other side. That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Morimoto XB LED Tail Lights in the smoked finish, also available in clear red on the site for 2015 to 2017 F-150s without BLIS. If you wanna pick this up for your own truck, you can do so right here at americantrucks.com.
