    Review & Installation Video

    Review & Install Video

Alex: What's going on guys? I'm Alex from americanmuscle.com, and today I'm bringing you my quick review and breakdown of the Mishimoto Performance Racing Thermostat, fitting your 1997 through current F-150 V8, and 2011 through current F-150 V6. So in this video, I'm gonna give a quick overview on who this might appeal to, what you're gonna be getting out of it in terms of performance for your truck, what you should expect to be spending. And then we're gonna take a quick look at what's entailed to get this installed. We're gonna be looking at an easy one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and about an hour to get this on your truck. And I'll have a little bit more for you on that later. The Mishimoto Performance Thermostat that I have here today should appeal to most, if not all, F-150 owners that are looking to install a very inexpensive and quick to get on your truck modification, that's ultimately going to help your truck perform that much more effectively. Now right out of the gate, I do want to say that this is not going to be a horse power adding or performance modification in my opinion. But by definition, what this is going to do is essentially open up at a lower temperature, like I said before, in comparison to the 180 degree thermostat that came from the factory, which in turn is gonna allow coolant to flow throughout your engine that much faster, which in turn is gonna give you better performance in the long run. And last but not least, I think this is gonna be great for truck owners out there that are gonna be doing either long haul drives, towing, or hauling parts as you're essentially making your truck work overtime in order to pull that load. By installing this, it's essentially going to help it cool that much more faster and effectively. Which again, at the end of the day, is going to make your engine work that much more better. In terms of the construction and materials used here guys, what you see is exactly what you're gonna get. And the team at Mishimoto has essentially overhauled this unit in comparison to what you might find on your truck, despite looking damn near identical. But again, this is going to allow your coolant to flow throughout your motor that much faster as it's going to open up at 160 degrees in comparison to the stock [inaudible 00:02:03] configuration which opens at around 180 degrees. So in terms of the pricing here guys, you should expect to be spending about 50 bucks for this kit. In my opinion is a steal for what you're gonna be getting here. You need to take into consideration that whenever you're mashing the pedal on your truck, it takes a lot to get it into motion. Now for the owners out there that are gonna be hauling, towing, or just doing some long haul drives, as well as the guys out there, no matter the motor if you're gonna be looking to modify it, this is gonna be a must in my opinion. As again it's going to allow coolant to circulate that much faster, which is going to help prevent a motor failure as well as helping you run that much more effectively. Switching gears to the installation portion of the video, just like I had said up top, you're gonna be looking at a very simple one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and about an hour's worth of labor to get this onto your truck. Now looking ahead, some things I'd make sure to have on site: full socket set, set of pliers, some new coolant obviously, and then a drain pan to get you running. So to start, you're gonna wanna get under your truck, locate your drain valve, get all your coolant out, then work back up to the intake side of things. You're gonna have to pull a few tubes here and there in order to access your factory thermostat. So once that's done, you're then gonna need to pull an upper rad hose to your thermostat housing, swap the Mishi unit back in place, add your coolant, and you're good to go. Now again, while I know it's much easier said than done, there's gonna be a slew of information as well as install info to help you get this onto your truck, and I know it is going to differ slightly from year to year as well as motor to motor. All right guys, so just to wrap things up, here are some final thoughts. If you're the F-150 owner that's doing long haul driving, towing, hauling, or if you're modifying your truck, in terms for performance modifications, I would definitely suggest checking out this part as again, it's gonna be making your motor work that much more effectively as well as preventing it from overheating. So that's my quick review and breakdown of the Mishimoto Performance Racing Thermostat fitting your 1997 through current V8 F-150 and your 2011 through current V6 F-150 available right here at americanmuscle.com.

Run Cooler. Increase the cooling efficiency of your F-150 by upgrading to a Mishimoto Performance 160 Degree Racing Thermostat. By installing this racing thermostat, your high engine temperatures will be significantly reduced, which will help to prevent overheating and potential engine damage in modified and forced induction applications.

More Power. Opening at a lower temperature over stock, this Mishimoto Performance Racing Thermostat ultimately aids in producing more power for your truck. It will open at 160 °F, compared to the standard OEM factory thermostat at 180 °F, and will allow coolant to flow through the engine block sooner. This will reduce and maintain cooler engine temperatures and therefore, produce more power.

Application. This Mishimoto 160 Degree Racing Thermostat is specifically designed for use on the 1997 to 2018 F-150s with the following engines.
    • 1997-2018 V8: 4.6L, 5.0L, & 5.4L

      Nice part

Other than the gasket being too big and not fitting into the housing the thermostat does pretty good. It doesnt keep the trans temp where’d I’d like it still but overall better than before. Install was less than an hour. Would purchase more parts from the company. Thanks again.

The thermostat itself works great, keeps the temp right at 175° but the o-ring is to small. Had to reuse my old one.
