The Lomax hard tri-fold bed cover here will be for the 2004 and newer truck owners looking for an affordable folding option that will be equal parts low profile and also durable. Now the Lomax will be available for both five-and-a-half and six-and-a-half foot bed lengths and will feature an all aluminum build for right around that $900 price point. Installation is going to be extremely straightforward so figure a soft one out of three wrenches on the difficulty meter and hang out for our detailed walkthrough to come later in the video. So the world of hard folding Tonneau covers is a rather expansive one and a lot of times it's really hard to differentiate between models here on the site. Now I will say the Lomax, in my humble opinion, is gonna be one of the cleanest appearing options once installed, of course, south of that $1000 price point. It's a combination of the matte black finish, you're looking at the underside here so don't mind this, along with that "less is more" textureless material which does really work well on the back of these particular trucks. And while the cover itself isn't totally flush with those bed rails, it's pretty darn close and will look great once installed. Now, construction wise, you are getting a 100% aluminum build here with the bed cover material which, by the way, is good enough to support up to 400 pounds on top of the fully installed cover which is up there amongst some of the best in the category. Now between these aluminum panels, guys, you will find a flexible waterproof hinge that's going to end up directing the water to the side and down the gutters in the drain, keeping your bed contents not only clean but also dry in the process. But I'd say one of the biggest pros of running a hardcover like this is the security. Again, you can't cut this durable aluminum with a knife and the Lomax is actually going to double down on that thanks to the 10 separate locking locations or points here, making this thing extremely difficult to defeat when the truck, more specifically that bed, are fully locked up.Now one small nitpick here with the Lomax cover is that, unlike other folding covers in the category, this thing will not fold up completely out of the way against that rear window. Instead, what you're able to do is fold those first two panels up onto the back of the third which still does give you full use of the bed beneath that third panel. However, that third panel will not move out of the way.Now granted it is easy enough to uninstall this thing completely if you ever needed to haul a couch or something like that, but, again, you might want a small little gripe here with the cover itself and it's something you guys should be aware of before pulling the trigger. But now let's shift gears and talk about that very easy installation. Again, very basic stuff, guys. Socket set is really all you need to tackle this job in about 30 minutes or less. And to give you a better idea of how it's all gonna go down, here's that detailed walkthrough we promised along with the tool breakdown.Male: Tools used for this install are 3/8 impact gun, 13-millimeter socket, short extension. First thing we're gonna do is open up our tailgate and climb up into the truck bed. So the first thing that we're gonna do is grab the bed rails. They are side specific, left and right. Make sure you grab the right side. We are going to put it up against the side of the bed rail here and push it all the way forward in the bulkhead as far as possible and then we can take the provided clamps. And we're going to evenly spread out four clamps along the bedrail here and then tighten them down.Okay. And we're gonna do the same thing on the other side now. Once you get one started, the rest are easy. All right. The next step is to place the Tonneau cover onto the bed of your truck. So I already have this up on the bed of the truck. Now I'm gonna walk it all the way up to the front. And what I'm gonna do now is open the Tonneau cover all the way up so I can center it on the bed of the truck. All right. Once we've got the Tonneau cover squared up with the bed of our truck, we want to climb underneath and engage the first hold down clip. So all we have to do is pull back on the tab, push down on the Tonneau cover and make sure it's fully engaged over here. And we can do the same thing on the other side.So one thing we want to do before we fold our Tonneau cover all the way back is attach the safety strap. There's a little carabiner hanging right here and there's an islet that we can hook it to. This is gonna ensure that if by chance your Tonneau cover does decide to come detach while you're driving, it's not gonna fly off the road. It's gonna stay on your truck. All right. Now we can fold up our Tonneau cover and close it up.All right, guys. That's gonna wrap up our review and install. Be sure to check out more at americantrucks.com.

Great bed cover
Takes about 1/2 hour to install. Looks great, works very well, and is easy to remove when needed. The corners let in a bit of water, but isolated to the tailgate are. Durable and good looking finish. Would recommend it to anyone who does not use their bed for big items every day. Small stuff that fit under it is no problem. Easy to access and keeps cargo in the bed as safe as any bed cover can.Helpful (0)

Lomax tri-fold cover
Awesome good looking bed cover. Although there was some minor damage from the shipping to Hawaii. Noticed the damage after unboxing and American trucks would not make any type of compensation. Still love this cover.Helpful (0)

Very little water gets in
The only water I have ever seen comes in from the corners of the tailgate where every cover I've seen is open. It just runs down the tailgate and never into the bed though. Seals great due to intelligent engineering (rails slope out and down). Make sure that you seal the rail against the front of the bed like they tell you to since front rake is going to lead all runoff that way when you're not moving. Easily scratchedHelpful (4)
What is the difference between this Lomax cover and the Weathertech Trifold besides price?
Can you open and close the tail gate without opening the cover?
You may have to adjust the cover/lift it up a bit to get the tailgate open, but you shouldn't need to completely open the cover or anything like that.
