Hey, guys, it's Joe from AmericanTrucks. And today, we're gonna be talking about the K&N Throttle Control Module, fitting all '14 to '18 5.3-liter and 6.2-liter Silverado 1500s. So, in order for us to understand what this is gonna do for Silverado, we need to go back in time and understand basically how it used to be done versus how it's done now, and basically the pros and cons of each, and how this is going to bridge the gap between the two. So, back in the good old days, it used to be there was a hardwire connection with either a linkage or a cable between the throttle pedal and the actual butterfly valve in the throttle body. And a hardwire connection basically means there was no lag. As soon as you press the pedal down, you get that hard connection, you don't feel any input lag basically from when you put the pedal down to when the motor actually responds. Now, that was all well and good. However, manufacturers move on, time moves on, and technology moves on. And they figured out that that can be a little bit hard to design around, you don't need a hardwire connection between the pedal and basically the throttle body because you can replace it with computers. So, nowadays, you press the throttle pedal down, that sends a voltage to a computer, and basically how much voltage you're sending is related to the throttle body, which tells it how much to open. Now, the downside of that is, when you do a drive by wire, basically wires like these, not a physical cable. But when you do a drive by electrical wire, you get a little bit of input lag, it takes time for a computer to react basically to that electrical signal. Something like this can change how fast that reacts by upping the voltage and basically telling you the throttle body to open more. And it's gonna help improve your throttle response by dialing out that input lag from a modern drive by wire system. Now, something like this is not going to create more horsepower, I just want that to be clear. What this is going to do, this installed in between the pedal and the computer system on your truck, this is going to change the voltage signal going to the computer. And this guy over here, this is just a little potentiometer to allow you to dial in exactly how this is gonna react. It's gonna reduce input lag, it's gonna allow you to dial in the throttle pedal exactly how you want it to be. But this won't make any horsepower because once the throttle body is open all the way, it's open all the way. This is just gonna change exactly at what point that that fully open throttle happens. And it's gonna change basically how this reacts linearly along the length of the throttle pedal travel. Now, a couple of other nice features about this one is it doesn't require a computer retune to run. So, right on the factory ECU, you can plug this in before the pedal, there's no hardwire connection or computer retuning to get this running. And because of that, this is completely reversible. So if you don't like this thing, you can always unplug it from the from the throttle pedal, take it out, and you'd be right back to normal. So, you're gonna know if this is something that you need. Again, this isn't a power adder, but basically, it's going to allow you to adjust exactly how your truck reacts. And while you may not be adding power, it's certainly going to feel a lot snappier with something like this install. So, moving right along the price here for the whole kit, this is gonna come in right around 275 bucks. And again, this is gonna be for a very specific guy out there that's unhappy with the way the truck responds to these inputs. And if you're that guy, this is a great buy and it's an easy fix for that problem. Also, included in that price is a 90-day warranty from K&N. So, the install for this definitely a one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meters, should take at most 30 minutes to an hour to get it installed. And I think that is on the high end even. The kit include some zip ties, you don't have to hardmount this box or potentiometer. If you don't want to, you could just zip tie it up and out of the way the pedals and you'd be good to go. This is gonna give you just as good of a result if you didn't do any of that stuff. The hardest part here is climbing underneath the driver's seat. We're gonna have to install this in between our throttle pedal and the wire that goes to the ECU. So, without any further ado, let me show you what tools you'll need and how it's done. Tools you'll need for this install are going to include a ratchet and a quarter inch socket. Now, the rest of this stuff, you have the choice to either mount this up with zip ties that come with the kit or you can hardmount it if you want. For that, you'll need a drill, a drill bit, and a 16-inch Allen key. So, before we drop this indoor Silverado, we're gonna do a little bit of work off the truck putting things together. We're gonna grab this wire right here. This is basically what's going to plug in in between our truck and the throttle pedal. We're gonna grab this box as well and we're just gonna put the two together, like so. Now, these locked together, this bolt right here tightens down with a quarter-inch socket. We're also going to plug in our adjustment dial potentiometer, this is gonna go right on this wire right here. And you should hear that click together. Now, we can jump into our truck, get this installed in between the throttle pedal and the vehicle ECU, and we should be good to go. So, here you can see the throttle pedal and the plug that we're gonna be installing this, basically in between this wire and the pedal itself. In order to disconnect this, you're gonna pull out on this gray tab right here, and then press in, and that should pop right out. So, now we're just gonna click that onto the pedal, and then as far as the wire goes. It's a tight space down here, I only have one hand to work with. But these two are gonna click together like so. And then on the other side, we can push down that gray clip, and that'll lock these two together. Now, again, you have the choice to either hardmount this or you could zip tie it up if you want to. If you wanted to go the hardmounting route, you could drill some holes, attach this via some bolts to wherever you decide to go. As far as this switch here goes, you'd take the dial off with that small Allen key I showed you earlier, drill a hole, insert the switch, reinstall the knob, and that would basically hardmount this up wherever you need it. I would recommend going underneath of the steering column just for easy adjustment. But other than that, that's gonna do it for me, it's also going to do it for the K&N Throttle Control Module, fitting all '14 to '18 Silverado 1500s, with either the 5.3 and 6.2. Thank you, guys, for watching. Subscribe for more videos like this one. Keep it right here AmericanTrucks for all things Chevy.

    Description

Improves Throttle Response and Acceleration. If you feel a delay in your truck’s throttle response when you step on the gas, then it’s time to install this K&N Throttle Control Module. This module improves your Silverado’s throttle response and acceleration by sending a signal straight through the throttle body. When that pedal lag is eliminated, your truck will accelerate quickly and more smoothly, too.

Tuning While Driving. There’s no need for any special software for this throttle control module to work. In fact, you can use it immediately after installation and adjust the pedal sensitivity while driving to fine-tune the throttle response just the way you like it. Installing this throttle control module won’t affect the OEM settings of your truck’s ECU. Moreover, adjusting the pedal sensitivity also doesn’t require any changes to the ECU’s factory tune.

Plug-and-Play Installation. You can install this throttle control module directly on the location of the original throttle controller. Note that you need to drill a small hole for mounting the control knob. The entire installation process can take about 30 minutes.

Comes With a 90-Day Limited Warranty. This K&N Throttle Control Module comes with a 90-day limited warranty against material or workmanship defects. For any inquiries regarding the terms and conditions of the warranty, kindly contact the manufacturer.

Application. This K&N Throttle Control Module can be installed on 2014-2018 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 that have either a 5.3 or 6.2L engine.
