Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com. Today we're taking a closer look at, listening to, and installing the Flowmaster Outlaw Dual Cat-Back Exhaust with Black Tips in the Side and Rear Exit, available for the 2019 and newer Silverado 1500. You should be checking this out for your 5.3L V8 if you're looking to pick up an exhaust that is one of the louder options in the category, something that has 409 stainless steel, dual rear and side exit options, so you can switch it up on the fly whenever you want. As you just heard from our sound clips, I'm giving this five out of five on our loudness meter. The Outlaw series from Flowmaster is known to be one of the loudest options in the category through and through. With that does come along some drone inside the cabin. I found that driving from red light to red light, it wasn't too bad. Highway driving on the other hand, in the top end of the RPM band, I would definitely expect some interior drone. If you're not really fond of drone, this may not be the option for you, but there are other options in the category for you. If you don't mind droning, you want all aspects of your RPM band to be loud, this is definitely the way to go. And as a matter of fact, I actually heard some really awesome backfiring coming off the deceleration with this guy, which is not something you really get with some of the cat-backs in this category. So all around, I'm really in love with this. I'm not typically one guy that likes the five out of five on the loudness meter, but the Flowmaster Outlaw, on our '19 5.3L blew me away. It's a 409 stainless steel mandrel-bent tubing to reduce some of the kinks, and really, it's essentially a straight pipe. The muffler here is the Super 10 option from Flowmaster, which doesn't really have much baffling at all, and there are no resonators in the kit. So that's worth mentioning. Now, what's really unique about this particular option is it allows you to change up the exit style from a dual rear exit to a dual side exit with very little work involved. All you'd have to do is swap out the pipe right behind the tip. It basically switches over to an elbow that dumps it out behind both of the rear tires, so that way, you can make your choice of a dual rear or a dual side. So with that, the price tag is a little bit higher than some of the other dual rear exits. This guy's gonna come in right around 800 bucks. Again, you get the dual exit style, middle of the way option as far as quality, the 409 stainless. Black tips here look really stealthy at the rear end, and it's got the Flowmaster name attached to it, so that's why your price is a little bit higher in the premium side of things for a dual rear or a dual side. Now, this guy here is gonna get two out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. Not a whole lot of work involved. It's definitely something you can tackle in the driveway at home, but there is one caveat. There's an extension pipe included for certain cab and bed length combinations, so depending on your trim package, you may need to make a single cut to one of the extension pipes. Now, on our truck, we have the crew cab with the 5'8" bed. It did not require cutting whatsoever. We didn't even need to use the extension pipe. So, again, two out of three wrenches right out of the box, but depending on your model, it may be three out of three. With that said, I wanna take you through the entire process, uninstalling your factory system and installing this guy. So what do you say we get started? All right, tools used in this install include an impact gun or a ratchet, hanger removal tool, 13, 14, and 15-millimeter deep sockets, 15-millimeter wrench, and it's recommended to have PB B'laster or WD-40 or something similar. First step of the uninstall here, of course, get your truck up in the air and properly supported, either on jack stands or on a lift like we have it here. I have pole jacks supporting it at the end and the middle of the exhaust, so when we start unbolting it, we have some support. Grab your 13-millimeter socket. We're gonna loosen up this bolt holding the clamp next to our catalytic converter. All right. Next step, we're gonna grab our hanger removal tool and we're gonna pop out our hangers from our isolators. Now, it's a good idea to grab WD-40 or PB B'laster or something similar to lubricate both sides of this to make life easier. There's a couple of these we'll have to remove along the exhaust. A hanger removal tool is definitely gonna come in handy here. Now, on the side of our muffler closest to the rear of the vehicle, we have two hangers, and you can see I have my pole jack here because once these two come off, this is gonna start to drop down a little bit, and we want that support there. I'm gonna grab my hanger tool and pop these guys off. Last hanger before the entire exhaust is free in one piece is right above our tailpipe. There you have it. Now we can grab a helping hand, or if you can do this yourself, you can pull the whole exhaust off in one piece. All right. So we got our factory exhaust off of our 5.3L 2019 Silverado, and it's on the ground next to our Flowmaster Outlaw. Now, let's take a look at the similarities and differences, starting at the front end. Now, the front end's pretty similar from the aftermarket to your stock. You have your flex pipe on your factory exhaust, flex pipe on your new exhaust. Not every aftermarket option has a flex pipe. It is pretty unique that that retains that factory-style flex pipe. Moving on, the entire system here is a 409 stainless steel. It's got a mandrel bends to make sure it's reducing any of those kinks or any airflow restrictions in the exhaust. 409's that middle-of-the-way material there. Not maybe as high quality as 304, but definitely more durable than aluminized, and that there is gonna give you that middle of the road pricing as well. You'll notice the extension pipe on the side there, and that's only gonna be used for certain cab length and bed size combinations. Depending on your bed size and cab length combo or your trim package, you may wanna use or omit that extension pipe. You'll notice the muffler here is a huge difference as well. Your factory muffler's giant, got a lot of baffling on the inside muffling that sound, definitely robbing you of some power that you'd get with a more free-flowing muffler, and that's definitely gonna be something you'll get with this Flowmaster Outlaw. Now, this is the Super 10 option from Flowmaster's muffler lineup. One thing you should know about Flowmaster mufflers is that the lower the number in their model, the louder it's going to be. Now, the Super 10 here is one of the loudest options available, which is why they pair it with the Outlaw. Outlaw is known to be one of the louder options. They have the Super 40, the Super 44, the Super 50. Those 50 series and options that are a little bit higher are gonna be a little bit more tamed, something that doesn't have as much volume. So something worth noting there. It's also powder-coated in black to increase the durability of the muffler, and that's definitely something you want focused on the muffler. You don't want the muffler going bad, you don't want it rusting out, because that can drastically affect the sound of your entire exhaust. So the black powder coating takes that durability a little bit further. You'll notice it has the single inlet, much like your factory, but a dual outlet, not similar to the factory. This dual outlet goes into your over-axle pipes, and then you have your exit style options, making this kit very unique in the category. Typically, you buy an exhaust and you have whatever exit style that particular one comes with. This one gives you the option to use pipes for a dual rear exit, coming out underneath of your factory rear bumper, making it nice, really aggressive, almost race truck style, but you also have the option to dump it out the sides behind both rear tires. Now, your factory exhaust dumps out behind the passenger rear tire, but this is gonna give you that dual exit as well. So that's there, and you can see that little elbow-shaped pipe next to the tips. Now, when it comes to changing that up, which you can do on the fly, you don't even need to lift the truck, all you'd have to do is loosen the clamp on the exit-style pipe, swap the tip over to the new one, and reinstall it. It should take no more than 15 minutes. Now, before we get going, know that the tips there are a huge difference over the factory as well, which doesn't really have a tip much at all. These are 4-inch slash-cut polished stainless steel, with a black coating on top, which looks a little bit more stealthy than some of the polished options, and it's a little bit bigger than your factory as well. It also has a Flowmaster name embedded right on top. Let's get started with the install on our flex tube. All right. First up here, we're gonna work on our flex pipe. Now, this guy is gonna basically slide right on over this subframe across member here, and it's gonna connect to the factory cat pipe, and we're gonna slide the hanger into the factory isolator. All right. So next up, you're gonna use that factory clamp and you're gonna tighten it down with your 13-millimeter socket. All right. So next up would be your extension pipe if you do need it for your trim package there, and, of course, that's all determined by bed size and cab length. Now, ours, we're gonna omit that. We don't need it for our package here. We have the crew cab 5'8" bed. What we're gonna do is install our muffler with the inlet side facing the flex pipe. Put the clamp over the end there. Grab a 15-millimeter deep socket and tighten down that clamp. All right. So next, we're gonna start on our passenger side with the over-axle pipe. We're gonna feed this guy over the axle. I've got a clamp on the muffler outlet. We'll connect both hangers to their factory locations. Now, there's a hanger isolator on the frame on both sides of the axle. So I'm gonna do the side toward the rear first, and now we can head back toward the muffler and do the other one. Grab your 15 socket and tighten down this clamp. We're gonna finish off the passenger side here by showing you guys what the side exit would look like, and then when we're done the entire installation, I'll show you guys how to swap that to the rear. Now, I'm gonna insert a clamp right over that tailpipe there. Insert this elbow. That makes it that side exit. All right. Now, before I tighten down that clamp, I wanna put our tip on to make sure it's angled properly. All right. Once we like the position here, we can tighten down this clamp and then tighten down the tip. Now you wanna swap over to a 14 socket and tighten down the tip.All right, so now we can start on our driver's side. Now, this side's a little bit more difficult, has some more steps involved. This pipe here is gonna be your over-axle pipe, but it's also gonna swivel around your spare tire. So you wanna feed this guy over the axle and, again, it's a tight squeeze. And then connect it to the muffler with a clamp and then your hangers. All right, so now you can grab your 15 socket and tighten down the clamp. All right. Before we move any further, we have to install a new hanger on our driver's side, because this is not a factory dual exhaust-equipped Silverado. Now, follow your leaf spring all the way back toward the rear, where it connects to the frame. Right behind that, there's this oblong oval shape in the frame going straight through. That's where we're going to install this hanger. Now, you wanna grab the hanger, a block, the little square block, along with the bolt. You're gonna put that from the outside facing in through that oblong hole. Make sure it goes all the way through to the other side. All right. Now, on the other side, we'll put another one of the blocks, a couple of washers, and your nut. Grab your 15 deep socket and your 15 wrench and tighten these two down. All right, so now you can take the red isolator included in the kit and slide it onto that pipe. It's a good idea to lubricate the inside of both of these holes here with like PB B'laster or WD-40 or something similar. Next step is gonna be the smaller hanger pipe that's gonna connect from the over-axle pipe on the driver's side to the hanger we just installed. Make sure you have a clamp inserted, slide that guy onto the over-axle pipe, and bring it up toward the hanger and slide it in. All right. Now we can tighten down that clamp. All right, so now, again, we can start with our exit style pipe. Now because at first I wanna show you guys the side exits, I'm gonna use this elbow here, put our clamp over the end, and slide it onto that hanger pipe. All right. Finally, we can cap this off with our tip.At this point, guys, if you're gonna keep your side exit style, you wanna make sure it's properly aligned where you want it to be. Go back and tighten down all your clamps, and you're good to go. Now, before we get going, I wanna show you guys how easy it is to swap over to the other exit style, being your dual rear exit. So at that point, all we need to do is loosen up and remove the elbow pipe here, swap it out with the one going straight back, and swap our tips over. Now, the first step in swapping out the exit styles is, of course, to get the tip out of the way. Swap over to a 14-millimeter deep socket and loosen up the tip and take it off. So now we have to take off the elbow that makes it the side exit style. So we're gonna loosen up this clamp with a 15 deep. Now, I'm gonna keep that clamp there because we're still gonna use that. We're just gonna take off this elbow. All right. So that elbow is gonna be replaced with this little S shape that's gonna go right back under the rear bumper. All right. Now you can tighten up that clamp. Finally, put your tip back on, slide that guy into position, grab your 14 socket, and tighten it down. All right. It's really as simple as that. Now you just get to repeat that exact process on the driver's side. That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Flowmaster Outlaw Dual Cat-Back Exhaust with the Side and Rear Exit, allowing you to swap them out with black tips. You should check this out for your '19 or newer 5.3L Silverado 1500, right here at americantrucks.com.
