Hey. What's up, guys. I'm Ryan from American Trucks, and today I'm here with the Flowmaster American Thunder stainless steel dual exhaust system with side and rear exit, fitting your 2004 to 2008 F150 with the 5.4 liter motor. It's gonna be for the F150 owner that is looking for the ultimate dual exhaust option for not only a little more power and sound, but some interchangeability. One of the nice features of this system is that it allows you to configure your exhaust for either side or rear exit. This is a great bolt-on upgrade that's really going to wake your truck up and it's gonna turn heads wherever you go. This exhaust is made from heavy-duty 409 stainless steel so it's gonna handle all that road debris that you may kick up. It's also going to last you a lot longer than any standard steel or aluminized steel option that you may go with. Its straight through, high flow design is really gonna reduce back pressure, significantly increasing power and sound off idle. Now, this is designed to be a direct bolt-on. It comes complete as a kit with everything needed to install, and it even reuses the factory hangers. This is reasonably priced on the site as far as these dual exhaust stainless steel systems go, and you're getting a high-quality system that's gonna sound and fit great from a reputable performance company. At just under $700 I think this is a great option to go with, considering the sound fitment and quality, and not only that, but it's made right here in the USA. Now as far as loudness goes on a scale of one to five, I'm gonna rate this a strong three since this system is gonna give you a very aggressive and deep tone with minimal drone. As far as the install goes, I'm gonna give this two out of three wrenches since you can install this in about two hours using basic hand tools. Now with that being said, let's hop into our install. Tools required for this install: penetrating lubricant, a magnet, 10-millimeter wrench, a half-inch wrench, 10-millimeter socket, 15-millimeter socket, 3H drive impact, a screwdriver or a pry tool, a pry bar. So the first thing I'm gonna do is put our truck up in the air so we can access the exhaust underneath. So there's two ways that you can do this. You can do this on the ground, or if you have access to a lift you can do it on a lift. We have ours on a lift, not only to give you a better idea but we're gonna try to get this whole exhaust system out in one chunk. If you are doing this on the ground, most likely you'll have to cut this tail section off as you won't be able to get the exhaust up and over the axle. So the first thing we're gonna do is we're gonna start off by spraying our band clamp and all of our hangers with some lubricant and then we're gonna try to get this thing out. First, start here at the back of the wide pipe since our whole exhaust extends from here back, we're gonna loosen this clamp using a 15-millimeter socket. So now that we have that clamp loose the next thing we're gonna do is slide this whole exhaust system back. Now we are taking this out in one chunk so I would recommend having a friend grab the other side. We're just gonna stick a pry bar in here and try to slide all these out of their mounts. So before we get this exhaust installed I wanna take a moment to tell you a little bit about what this is made of, what it's gonna do for your truck, and how it compares to your stock exhaust. Now the stock exhaust is a little under 2.5 inches front to back. Not only that, it has a very large, restrictive muffler in it. This new system is actually going to open up that initial section to 3 inches, which is gonna increase flow. This comes to a high flow muffler, which actually Flowmaster's Super 40 series muffler, so it's gonna give you a very aggressive and deep tone. This is also really gonna increase flow. Once it exits that muffler it's gonna split off into two individual pipes. Now, these pipes are 2.5 inches, which are roughly the same size as your stock ones, but now since there is double the tubing that's gonna increase flow even more. Now, this exists all the way out the back of your truck, and actually, Flowmaster gives you two different sets of pipes. This is so you can angle your tips slightly outwards at the bed of your truck or you can just direct them right out towards the back. I think that's a pretty nice feature. Also, you get a nice set of chrome tips for the end of your exhaust. Now, this whole exhaust system is made from 409 stainless steel so it's already gonna be a lot more corrosion resistance than your standard steel and any aluminized options that you're gonna go with. Now, this whole thing is designed to be a direct bolt on, and it reuses all the factory hanger mounts and it even comes with some brand new hangers. So with all that being said, let's show you how this gets installed and what it looks like on your truck. So before we start with anything, it would be a good idea to take all of these new clamps that you get and remove the nuts and then apply some kind of thick lubricant or anti-seize on these just so if you ever decide to take this exhaust system back off, you won't have these all rusted up. So the first part we're gonna start with is our inlet pipe. Now, depending on your bed size and cab configuration, longer models will need an extension pipe. This is included in the kit by Flowmaster and shorter configurations will need to cut this pipe a little shorter. All those measurements are in the instructions and readily available. So what we're gonna do is we're gonna take one of our 2.5-inch clamps and we're gonna place this on end and we're just gonna slide this end onto our existing pipe. Now we're gonna take a 15-millimeter socket and just tighten this clamp up a little bit. So the next step is to install this hanger. This hanger goes on our intermediate pipe and actually goes into this mount. So if you have a regular cab with a 6.5 foot bed, this hanger is not necessary. If you have a Super Cab with a 6.5 foot or 8-foot bed or a SuperCrew, you do need this hanger, and we actually have to relocate this mount. This mount is on the side of the frame rail. We need to relocate it onto this cross member. So we need a 10-millimeter socket to remove this bolt and then we use a flat head screwdriver to take out this J-clip. We'll swap everything over here and get this hanger on. So we're gonna come up to here to our cross member and we're gonna install this little J-clip in there, lining that hole up. Once we have that, we can go ahead and drop this mount in that top section and then reinstall that 10-millimeter bolt. We wanna slide this on, insert it into there, then we're going to use a 15-millimeter socket to snug that nut up, just to hold the pipe in place. Next, we're gonna take our muffler and one of our 3-inch clamps. We're gonna place that on to our inlet side of our muffler, then we're gonna slide this onto our pipe. Once we get that on we're gonna support that with a pole jack, and we'll tighten that clamp up a little bit with the 15-millimeter socket. So next we're gonna take the passenger side which is actually labeled 16-5-0-3 and we're gonna install that. There's already a factory hanger up there. We're just gonna slide that into there and then this into the back of the muffler. All right. So once you get the back end slid in the hanger, we're gonna go ahead and install a clamp onto our muffler and then we're gonna slide the rest of this piping in there. Then we're gonna tighten that clamp up a little bit using a 15-millimeter socket. So next we're gonna take the driver's side section labeled 16-4-4-4 and we're gonna install that into our factory hanger on our cross member, put a clamp on that and insert that in the muffler. So you wanna make sure that these pipes slide all the way inside of that muffler, and then same thing. We're gonna use a 15-millimeter socket to tighten that clamp up. So the next thing, since this is a dual exhaust system and we don't have a hanger on the driver's side, Flowmaster has provided us with a little hanger. We need to install this through a little hole up into our frame, and they even give you the hardware to do so. So what we're gonna do is take a bolt and a flat washer. We're gonna drop it down through that hole up there and bolt this onto the frame rail. So we're gonna go up through this square hole and then we're gonna try to come down through this other hole. You can use a magnet to persuade it. After we get that bolt to drop down through there, we're gonna put our bracket up on top of that, and then we're gonna do a washer, a lock washer, and a nut. So next we're gonna take the rest of our driver's side pipe, this is gonna be 16-5-0-6, and we're gonna slide this end into that hanger that we just mounted using this new rubber bushing, and then we're gonna place a clamp on the end of this pipe, and slide that up and in there. So we're gonna make sure that this pipe is all the way up in this other pipe, then we're gonna place our clamp up on the edge and tighten it down with a 15-millimeter. So next, we're at the point where we're gonna install our little tail sections that our tips are gonna attach to. Now, this is where you get to choose whether you want this to stick straight out the back or if you want a side exit exhaust. For this particular video, we're gonna go with a straight out the back so we're gonna use this tube. So we're gonna grab one of our remaining 2.5-inch clamps, and we're gonna place that on our exhaust, and then we'll slide this little egg on. And then we'll tighten that up with a 15. We're gonna do the same thing for the other side. Place my clamp on there, making sure that pipe is all the way in there, then tightening the clamp up. So next step, we're gonna install our tips. Now to tighten these up we're gonna use a 10-millimeter socket and a 10-millimeter wrench. We're gonna get these on, position them where we want them, and then we're gonna go through the rest of the exhaust, make sure we have clearance everywhere and we'll tighten everything up. We're gonna do the same thing for the other side. Just gonna make it even with the other side. Once you've adjusted your system where you need it, we're gonna take a half-inch wrench and tighten this nut up. And last but not least, Flowmaster provides you with these little metal retaining washers to install on this mount that we installed. This is to keep everything from sliding off of each other. So you can just press those on and that will hold all that in place. So now that we have this system installed, you wanna drive your truck around for a little while and then recheck all of those clamps making sure that they're tight. However, that's gonna wrap up my review and install. For more videos like this, check us out at americantrucks.com.
