Jake: Jake here for AmericanTrucks. And today, I've got the Flowmaster FlowFX Single Side Exit Exhaust with a Black Tip for 2015 to 2020 5-Liter F-150s. An exhaust can make or break the driving experience of your truck, and if you're looking for a noticeable but subtle way to update your truck's sound and performance, then this FlowFX system is going to appeal to you. This system combines a slick side exit exhaust setup with a more subtle version of that classic Flowmaster sound at an affordable price point, so it's perfect for the daily driven truck. A Flowmaster exhaust and a V8 is a classic combination, but it's very easy to go overboard on noise. If you want that classic Flowmaster look and sound, but you don't wanna go around rattling the windows or getting your neighbors all irritated, then this FlowFX system is for you. Coming in at a two out of five on our loudness meter, it's unlike a lot of other exhausts in that it's really not super loud. As you heard in the clips at the beginning of the video, you still get that nice deep V8 soundtrack when you get into it, but at idle or even just cruising around, the sound is much more mild and relatively unobtrusive. It's a moderate step up from the stock system. There is still gonna be a difference in volume and tone to the exhaust versus your stock system, not so little that you won't notice the difference at all, but it is absolutely there. Now, inside the cabin, as you heard in the clips, you're gonna hear it more than you would your stock system, but it's not gonna be so loud that you can't carry on a conversation, nor are you gonna get a lot of drone either. And for a daily-driven truck or one that sees a lot of highway miles, that is a great benefit. You're gonna get that sound that you want with none of the annoyances that sometimes come with the aftermarket exhaust. Now, although Flowmaster calls this FlowFX muffler a straight-through unit, you can probably see that there are some baffles in here, you see that honeycomb around the side. Hence that more mild tone than something like say their Outlaw series. You can also see that this is pretty big too. So, all of that is gonna work to keep that drone at bay and help make a much more pleasant drive without too much noise. Construction for this system is all 409-grade stainless steel, so you're gonna get some good rust and corrosion protection, though not quite as much as T304 stainless. However, you also don't get the price tag of T304, but more on that in a few moments. Now, the piping here, as you can see, is all 3-inch mandrel bent tubing and everything is actually pretty nicely welded together too, including that muffler. So, this all means that you're gonna get great exhaust flow and it's also gonna help with reducing back pressure as well. Now, this again is a single-side exit exhaust, so it's gonna end up in the same position as your stock exhaust. However, you do get a little extra something to draw people's eye and that is this black tip. Now, this is a rolled 4.5-inch tip. It's made from T304 stainless, and it's finished in this black ceramic coating. So, not only does it look great, but it also is gonna withstand the test of time. It's also got this really nice slash cut here, which I think looks great, and it's gonna be a nice little visual update to your truck that people will notice if they're taking a look for it. Now, pricing for this system is another big selling point in my book, folks, as it comes in at about $600. Now, it is not the cheapest system out there, but it does far undercut a lot of other options that you have. And for what you're getting here, I do think that this is worth the price. Again, you're gonna be saving a bit of money versus a full 304-grade stainless setup, but it's still a good quality piece and it's gonna sound better than stock, and you'll also avoid some of the drone issues that cheaper exhausts might have.Installation for this one will get a two out of three on our difficulty meter as is typical for exhaust, and you should plan on it taking you about two hours to get it done. Now, everything you need is included in the kit and this is a totally bolt-on setup with one notable exception. Depending on your cab and/or bed length, you may either have to make a cut to this inlet pipe or utilize this included extension pipe. However, instructions are included on what trucks need what, and if you do need to make a cut, it's only one and a couple inches out of this pipe, so it's pretty simple to do. Again, otherwise, this is a simple bolt-on system and it's gonna utilize all of your stock exhaust hangers so there's no modification needed to your truck. Definitely a job you can accomplish at home in your driveway, just be aware that you are gonna have to make a cut. And with that, let's head on over to the install bay right now where we'll walk you through the process.Man 1: The tools we'll need for this project is a rag, some spray lubricant, a 15-millimeter socket, a 14-millimeter socket, a 13-millimeter socket, a 13-millimeter socket with a U-joint or a U-joint by itself, a 14-millimeter wrench, hanger removal tool, an impact, and a pry bar. Hi, everyone. Today we're installing an exhaust on our 2018 F-150, but before we do that, let's watch a short video on how to uninstall the stock system, and we'll see you right back here when you're done.Man 2: So, first step here for our install, we're gonna grab our 13-millimeter socket on the U-joint, we're gonna loosen up the flange up near our catalytic converters, and that will basically let our exhaust sit in the exhaust hanger isolator. So, at that point, all we're gonna do is lubricate them, slide the whole thing back, and since we're on a lift, we'll be able able to pull the whole exhaust out in one piece. Now, if you are working on the ground, and you won't have as much room as I do, you might have to make a couple cuts to get this out, but it's just as simple as that. So, this one is a little bit tough to get to, but it should come right out. And same thing goes with this one. The U-joint here is almost a must. If you wanna use the impact, if you're using a ratchet, should clear no problem. So, now our exhaust is loose at the front, we just need to lubricate these rubber hanger isolators so we could slide our exhaust back and out. For that, I'm gonna use PB Blaster here. You could use white lithium grease, as you can see this one has had on it before. So, we're just gonna give this a shot here, on both sides. So, now we can take our exhaust hanger removal tool, and we're just gonna work that out. So, now we have two more hangers supporting our exhaust, and all we're gonna do for this one right above our muffler is grease it up for now. You can see it doesn't have that barb at the end, so we're gonna leave this in just to support our exhaust. We're gonna grease up the other one and then we can slide this whole thing back. So, this last one here, right on our tailpipe, again, we're just gonna hit it with some PB Blaster. And again, this doesn't have the barb on it either. So, now we should be good to push this whole exhaust back and pull it off of our truck.Man 1: So, the first thing we're gonna do is install this front pipe with the flange on it using supplied bolts and nuts and flat washers and lock washers. Now, you wanna leave that loosely attached so that we can install the rest of the system and get it all straightened out. Okay, depending on the configuration of your truck and the length of your bed, you will notice that there's an extension pipe and an extra clamp with a hanger on it. We're not gonna be using these on ours, but depending on your truck, you may need them. Now we can go ahead and slip our clamp onto our muffler and slide our muffler into our front pipe. Okay, now that we've got our muffler loosely installed, we wanna check the orientation of our offset on the front pipe here, make sure that it goes out towards the frame. Now we can go ahead and slip our tailpipe over the axle and slip it into the back of the muffler. Now, before we slip it into the muffler, we wanna make sure that we slip the arms into the exhaust hangers. Now that we've got our system installed and positioned where we want it, we can go ahead and snug up our clamps using our 15-millimeter socket. Now we can move to the front flange and tighten that down using our 14-millimeter socket and our 14-millimeter wrench. Now we can go ahead and slide our tip on making sure that it's in the direction we want it to and tighten it down with our 14-millimeter socket. And that wraps up our review and install of the Flowmaster FX Single Exhaust System with Black Tip and Side Exit for our '15 to '20 F-150 with the 5.0. Thanks for watching. And remember, for all things F-150, keep it right here at americantrucks.com.
