Hey, guys. Adam here with americantrucks.com, and today we're taking a quick look at and installing the Projector Headlights with the LED DRL and Sequential Turn Signals in the Black Chrome Finish, available for the '15 to '17 F-150. You should be checking these out if you're looking to ditch the factory, very traditional front-end look of your F-150 from the '15 to '17 gen in favor for a modern upgrade that's gonna give you a daytime running light, or DRL, and a more upgraded, brighter, more attractive technology. Now, this particular kit here is one of my personal favorites in the category simply because it's got a lot built-in that some of the other options don't. Right off the bat, that thing that grabs your eye is gonna be the DRL, or daytime running light. That's gonna be this really opaque white, very bright light going all the way around, that is a pure white 6,000k color temperature, so it's pure white, and then the inside there has the tri-bar design. Now, the tri-bar design is pretty unique, you don't really see that in a lot of these, it's almost reminiscent of a Mustang. Now, this guy's got the turn signals built into those tri-bars. The amber turn signal is a sequential, that means it's gonna blink from the inside out in sequence with all three of them at the same time. And that's gonna work in conjunction with your turn signals and your hazard lights. Aside from that, you also get the projector styling as opposed to your factory reflector styling. This is gonna give you the separate high and low beam that's super bright, a lot brighter than your factory bulbs, switching over again to the reflectors on the sides. Now, those reflectors have just a simple reflector at the top and a reflector and LED combo on the bottom, which you can see illuminated right there. That's a really bright and vibrant amber. Overall, the lights are more vibrant, more colorful than your factory ones, they're gonna last a whole lot longer, and they're more modern and a lot brighter. With that said, the inside of your housing is gonna be more of a black chrome. Now, technically, this is a black chrome interior with a clear lens. But I'm noticing that these lenses are slightly darker than some of the clear lens in the rest of the options in the category. It's not quite smoked, it's just a little darker than other ones. The black chrome on the inside helps with that as well. It gives you more stealthy look but still keeps that sort of traditional chrome reflection inside. It's not completely black, it's not completely chrome, it's right in the middle, almost a gray. That's gonna give you a more stealthy look at the front end but still let all that light output through, which is what you want from your headlights. The price tag for this guy is coming in right around 600 bucks for the pair. Install gets one out of three wrenches on our difficulty meter. You can tackle this in about an hour's time from start to finish with very simple hand tools. It is plug-and-play, even though it's got some LED accents here. It's gonna plug right into the factory bulb sockets, and your high and low beams are built-in already.I'll show you guys the entire process from start to finish, what do you say we get started? Tools used in the install include an impact gun or a ratchet, extension, 10-millimeter deep socket, panel removal tool, and a Phillips head screwdriver. Now, the first step of the uninstall of our factory headlights is to get off this trim panel. Now the trim panel goes all the way around. And in order to completely remove this, we have to peel back some of our fender flare. Now, if your truck doesn't have fender flares, obviously that makes life a little easier, but there still will be a couple of retainer screws back here. So, step number one, I'm gonna use a panel removal tool. A flathead screwdriver works as well but I find this to be a little easier. We're gonna peel up and pry off this little plastic rivet or the pushpin clip at the top. From there we'll move into our fender well. Some of these can be pretty stubborn, so you might have to go side to side, back to back to get them to pop out. With the top four out of place, we're just gonna pry up under the bottom portion, set it aside. Now, this part on the back of our fender flare, there's two Phillips head screws. Now, as you can see we have one off already but you can grab your Phillips head screwdriver and just remove both of them. Pretty simple. You wanna make sure you're holding on to these to be reinstalled later. All right, now that you have the screws out of place, we're gonna use the flat portion of the panel removal tool to pry up and out on that fender flare. Now, you'll notice there are three clips retaining it to your fender right here, we're just gonna remove those three and detach it. Now, you see these clips are loosened at this point, at least this middle one is. You wanna make sure they stay on the fender flare. You want it to detach from the trim panel and not detach from the fender flare to make it easier for the reinstallation. And the bottom one, we're just gonna pry in, pop right out. Now it's detached. And now we have this whole panel free and we can use that to peel this off. So, what we're gonna do is pop this panel out and remove it from under the headlight. All right, from here, gently peel back on the fender flare, you don't wanna break it. There are more clips, if you want to remove more you can. This is really all you'll technically need, though. You wanna pry back on this trim panel as much as you can on this portion, it will detach. Go over to your opposite side under your headlight and start to peel back on that. They really just snap into place. So, once you detach all the portions, you'll be able to set it aside. All right, at this point, grab a 10-millimeter socket, I'm gonna use an extension to make life just a little easier here. There are three 10-millimeter bolts at the bottom of this black bezel, get those off. All right, with that, this black trim piece will come and we can gain access to the bottom of the headlight. Now, at the top of your headlight, there are two 10-millimeter bolts, you wanna get those out of the way as well. Now, between the headlight and the grille, there's one more 10-millimeter bolt tucked in a little bit deeper, you will need an extension for that. So, we're gonna insert that right into this little gap here. Go straight back, find the 10, loosen that up. If you pull straight back, it should come out with your socket. At that point your headlight is completely loose and ready to come out. Pull straight back. Now, you don't wanna pull too hard because there are still wiring harnesses attached. You wanna pinch, detach your bulbs. There are three, and now you can set your factory headlight aside. So, we got our factory headlight off of the driver side of our '15 F-150 behind me and it's next to our plank-style LED headlight. Let's go through some similarities and differences here. Now, the overall layout of the interior of the housing is very similar, splits it up into the upper deck and lower deck sections with the turn signal in between. But what's really gonna change is the technology and the overall stealth mode look of the headlight. Now, obviously, this is a factory halogen reflector style headlight, we're transferring that over to a projector-style headlight, which, of course, is gonna give you a brighter, wider spread beam, that's gonna be a lot easier to see at night with this thing on there rather than your reflective halogen style headlight. Now, inside of that you also get a DRL, or daytime running light. Now, that's not something you get with your factory headlight on the '15 to '17 F-150. It's more so a new gen vehicle type of thing, at least in the F-150 family. And that's something that's gonna modernize the front end. Now, that's something you can see wrapped around the entire headlight there. And that's gonna be an opaque light, with a bright white, almost pure white light there, that's gonna shine it with your daytime running lights. So, anytime that your parking lights or your headlights are on, those will be on. The tri-bar in the middle there is also gonna be white, turn signal as well is built-in. That's something that, again, it's gonna be a lot more vibrant than your factory halogens. Now, we do have to transfer over the factory halogen bulb sockets, but it's gonna plug right into the new LED harness on the back there, making it a plug-and-play, avoiding any splicing. Before we do that, one more thing to talk about, you're going from the very reflective chrome, clear housing, traditional-looking headlight to the new black interior. Now, this is not necessarily a smoked lens, but it is a little bit darker than a traditionally clear lens like you'd see here, sort of that black chrome interior. It's a perfect mix between a clear lens and a smoked lens. It's something that gives you the stealthy look but all that light outputs coming through. I think this is one of the better-looking headlights in the category personally. With that said, let's transfer over some of those bulb sockets, and then we'll get to the install. Starting with the back of our factory light, we're just gonna start twisting out the factory bulbs, pulling them straight out. Now, what you wanna do is grab the bulb by the base, carefully pull that back and forth until the bulb comes out, set that guy down carefully. And we're gonna look at our new headlight, we're gonna take the LED harness in that same location and plug it into where the bulb was, just like that. Now, I'm not gonna tuck this into the headlight just yet. You wanna make sure when we're connecting it to the factory harness in the vehicle that the black wire or your ground and the white wire and the power are on the same side as the factory harness. So, you may need to unplug it, swap it around, and plug it back in just to ensure that. So, in order to make that easier to see, I'm gonna leave that out for now. Back over here, coming over to the brown socket, counterclockwise unlocks it, pull it out. Pop that bulb straight out. Again, be careful not to shatter that glass. And we're gonna come over here and do the exact same thing. Plug it into the socket and leave that there. All right, so I've got the headlight propped up here on our driver's side, we're gonna start plugging things in. Now I'm gonna plug this harness in first. And the first thing you wanna do is make sure that your wires are aligned. So, here on our factory harness, there's the black wire, and the...well, this one's a greenish orange, but that's gonna be your power. So, black is your ground, the color wire is your power. You wanna make sure on the new headlight they're on the same side. Ours looks to be not on the same side. You're gonna unplug that, flip it around. And now the black wire is on the left, black wire is on the left, they wanna match up. From there you can mount it inside of your headlight, but I'm gonna connect the rest of the harnesses first. All right, so this guy is gonna come down here, that's already built-in so we don't have to worry about wiring. Your brown harness has two yellow wires. So, we're not really sure which direction they're supposed to be in, this will be a trial and error. At this point, you wanna test out your lights to make sure they work. If this one does not, unplug, flip it around, and plug it back in. You wanna make sure those power and grounds are wired up the same way. At that point, we can prop our headlight up and start tucking the wiring into the housing. It gets really tight, you have to bring the headlight up pretty close. Then we'll tuck this one into the side. This one you can't really see but it's the same case. Okay, once that's mounted, take the entire headlight assembly, put it back in the truck.Grab your factory bolts, put them back in place, and tighten them down. Grab your 10 socket and tighten those down. All right, now we can mount that plastic trim panel back in here. Grab those 10-millimeter bolts and put them back here. All right, next, you can put your paint-matched trim panel back on. [inaudible 00:11:14] that right in. Snap your fender liner in there. Now we can put the screws back in the wheel well. All right, so now we have the factory Phillips head screws. We're just gonna put those back in. All right, once you have that guy back in, repeat the entire process on the other side. That's gonna wrap up my review and install for the Projector Headlights with the LED DRL Sequential Turn Signals in the Black Chrome Housing, available for the '15 to '17 F-150.
